could be a lingering shower on the cape. upper 50s for the ride home. a mostly dry remainder of the day. sunset at 6:01. all of the weekend details are coming up. first, traffic and weather together, chris. >> danielle, let's take a look out there. tons of work cruise are trying to get things done as much as possible before the weekend. we're looking at the all clear heading into the city this morning. we begin with breaking news. an 18-year-old man rushed to the hospital after falling from a roof deck in mission hill. we're told the victim fell three stories and landed on the sidewalk of hillside street shortly after midnight. he has serious injuries, but we're told they are not believed to be life- threatening. it is not clear what caused him to fall. also this morning, game over. one state ordering fantasy sport sites to shut down. >> this is the latest blow to the popular sites draftkings and fan duel.

of the boston based draftkings with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. another major blow for this company. nevada has determined it is illegal for draftkings and fan duel to operate their sites in the state of nevada. they have determined that this is gambling, and that is something that you need a license to operate. if you've never played draftkings orphan duel, these are fantasy sport site -- or fan duel, these are fantasy sport sites. the pay jots top out at a million dollars. some of the money has gone to draftkings employees playing on rival site fan duel. they are involved in a class action lawsuit accused of potential insider trading. as far as this decision out of nevada, both fan duel and draftkings are reacting, expressing disappointment. fan duel has said this decision

ignores the fact that fantasy sports is a still-based product loved and played by millions of sports fans. draftkings also released a statement saying "we understand the gaming industry is important to nevada and for that reason, they are taking this exclusionary approach against the popular fantasy sports industry. we strongly disagree with this decision. many states do look to nevada for gambling regulations. it's unclear what the impact might be. it might have some sort of impact nationwide as to whether they will continue to operate in the same capacity. we're live in boston, susie steimle, wbz this morning. brockton police looking for this man in the sketch. they say he may be a serial rapist. the fist victim was attacked in -- the first victim was attacked in 2019. >> brockton isn't the only community on alert this morning. >> reporter: not at all, chris.

a car chase ends in a crash after police say they tried to stop a car for traffic violations. they chased the car to braintree where it crashed into a house. arrested three people. groton. take a look at this. this was the scene on prescott street. you can see the intense flames in these images. really quite something here. injuries. officials are looking into a cause. now to a developing story. in california, flash flooding sends rocks and mud onto a major highway. take a look at this stranding drivers there. bree is in with the dramatic video and developments overnight. bree? >> reporter: hundreds of drivers were stuck in the mud just north of los angeles. the cleanup will take days. this morning's commute is expected to be a nightmare. 30 miles of interstate and even more back roads are shut down.

cars and trudged through the mud to safety. four people and two dogs were rescued from atop one car. mud is up to 5 feet deep in some spots, even burying homes. >> oh, my gosh! run for your lives! >> reporter: here's video from one drive areas rain produced flash floods. flash flood warnings went out to include four different counties. the powerful storm brought hail and heavy rain. the ground is severely dry from drought and wildfires from recent years, which quickly spelled disaster. the form of the huge mudslide. bulldozers moved in to clear the streets but the cleanup has just started. it could be well into the day gets moving again. president obama vowed to end the war in afghanistan before he left office but now he says thousands will remain.

the president will reduce the troop levels to 5500 as planned, but instead of drawing down further, he'll keep the troops on the ground until the start of 2017 at least. he says afghan forces are still not as strong as they need to be. >> my approach is to assess the situation onp ground, figure out what's working, figure out what's not working. >> reporter: the mission remains the same. counterterrorism plus training of afghan troops. some say 5500 troops won't be enough to do both. originally the president just wanted to leave 1,000 troops on the ground. it's 5:08 on your friday morning. israeli police say muslim men under the age of 40 will be barred from entering the mosque today. the site is sacred to both islam and judiism and is known as the temple mount in english. the move is meant to encourage calm amid a wave of violence that has claimed eight israeli and 31 lip lives.

tufts is taking back bill cosby's honorary degree. the university revoked the honorary doctor of arts and the children's media. tufts says cosby has shown a integrity. comedian of sexual assault. cosby has not been charged and denies the allegation. governor baker unveiled a new plan giving hospitals power to involuntarily admit patients for 72 hours. more than 1200 people have died from overdoses in massachusetts and it often starts with a simple prims. >> this has got to stop. i appreciate the fact that this is a controversial idea, but

welcome back. a massachusetts family is trying to track down a good samaritan. a woman and her kids and grandchildren got together for a pizza dinner tuesday night in salem. it was the first time in three together. when it came time for the bill, the waitress handed them a note from a woman named robin who paid their bill. bucks. in the note, she wrote "enjoy salem." the family left a thank you note reading "there are some good witches in salem, mass." >> have you ever had someone pay the bill for you? >> no. i have paid for the person in the drive through behind me, but i don't know if it got -- >> reciprocated? >> it's like, ooh, will it go viral? >> i've done that but i've never been on the receiving end. >> hey, i bought danielle

in worcester county back through the monadnock region. these will slide east by 8:00, 8:30. 9:30 showers in boston pack up through essex county. a couple of sprinkles back down to the cape and islands. may actually be a brief downpour here through late morning and midday. then the sun comes back out. it's not a bad fall afternoon. sun and clouds, a little breezy and temperatures in the lower 60s. tomorrow, there's another disturbance coming in. notice it's a brief rain shower for us in the morning mixed with snow showers in the mountains of northern new england. it could be a couple of inches in the summit in the northern green mountains and white mountains by the end of saturday. both today and tomorrow, not a washout by any means. a passing shower and behind that, chiley air comes in for sunday -- chilly air comes in for sunday. temperatures don't get out of upper 40s. there will be a good amount of sunshine for highs.

teacher in danvers. a judge ruled yesterday that phillip chism must undergo a mental evaluation. that means his murder trial is on hold for up to 20 days. he will go for observation and is accused of killing danvers high schoolteacher colleen ritzer in 2014. he is being tried as an adult. a south bridge teacher charged with sending nude photos of himself to a high school student pleads not guilty and is free on bail this morning. police say 23-year-old joseph zuniga sent the pictures to a 17-year-old boy through facebook. a school resource officer overheard students talking about it and told police. two new suspects bombing. the plane blew up in 1988, culling all 259 people on board including nicole bollinger.

from germany for christmas break. the two suspects are in libya. police say they had contact with the only person ever convicted in the attack. the suspects were identified the investigation. it was made by a somerville film-maker whose older brother died in the bombing. bad news pore people receiving social security benefit -- for people receiving social security benefits. there will be no cost of living increase next year. the move affects more than 65 million people across the country. this is only the third time there's been no increase in the past 40 years. the patriots gearing up for their game against the colts on sunday. >> it is a rematch of the afc championship game that launched the whole deflate gate. all week, the pats have downplayed the revenge angle against the colts.

despite controversy surrounding the sites, their popularity continues to grow. >> jon keller takes a closer look at whether the sites should be considered gambling. >> reporter: good morning. it's a given with success comes scrutiny and from competitors, challenge. so it's no surprise the nevada gaming control board has ruled the daily fantasy sports games are gambling games, subject to their control and can't do business in nevada unless they get licensed like any other sports. federal law exempting fantasy sports from the ban on internet gambling, but other states can follow nevada's lead if they want, and have i no doubt states that rely heavily -- i have no doubt states that rely heavily on revenues from gambling will do so. there's big money at sake and these sports sites have walked

food right off of their plates. just like the newspaper industry was krimed almost overnight. creative destruction they call it in the economics business. the process in which innovation replaces existing forms of commerce with new ones. if the casino and sports book and lottery businesses somehow thought they were immune from that, they were sadly mistaken. there aren't too many commercial or even social activities you can't perform more easily and chiefly online than in person. so the next time someone claims, oh, people will never get tired of doing "fill in the blank" the way they have always done it think of newspapers, video rental stores and all other businesses undercut by the internet. share your opinion with me. >> we love hearing from you.

help tracking down an arsonist. someone set a car on fire in a driveway on autumn street yesterday morning. it may have been an attempt to burn down the house. the lowell police officer caught sleeping in his cruise hears now resigned. without identifying him, the city manager released a statement saying in part, "his actions were unacceptable and notal rated by the police department or the city of lowell. last week, that officer was photographed sleeping in his cruiser with a pillow. the lowell sun reports he's done it twice before. parishioners holding a round the clock vigil at a scituate church are pleading with the archdiocese to keep it open. earlier this week, the supreme court judicial court ruled they were trespassing. a judge ordered them out. the archdiocese is asking them to respect the court's decision and leave the church which they say, no way.

live in boston, susie steimle, wbz this morning. haverhill police and the atf make a big bust arresting 19 people and getting 15 guns off the street. they found assault rifles and handguns plus narcotics zone. 27 people have been charged as part of the investigation, which continues. good morning. i'm nicole jacobs live at brockton police headquarters where police are investigating multiple sexual assaults that date back from 2013 and 2014. i want to get you right to a sketch of a man police would like to question related to these crimes. he's believed to be in his 20s about 6 feet tall. he has been seen driving a dark colored sports car in the downtown brockton area, and police also believe he may have ties to the easton area. needless to say, residents are very concerned. you'll hear from some of them coming up at 6:00.

nicole jacobs, wbz this morning. flash floods brought huge mudslides to california. hundreds of drivers were stuck in the mud on interstate 5 north of los angeles. 30 miles of interstate and even more back roads are shut down. mud is up to 5 feet deep in some spots, even burying homes. the powerful storm brought hail and heavy rain. the ground is severely dry from drought and wildfires in recent years which quickly triggered the mudslides. nba and reality star lamar odom remains on life support after an apparent drug overdose at a nevada brothel. his ex-wife chloe kardashian is telling the brothel's owner to stop speaking out, but he insists he's just trying to protect his business. and this clutch home run night. they play the chicago cubs in
