most towns will continue to fall back and we've been watching the colder air gradually filter in. we'll all notice it this weekend. for tonight, mainly upper 30s in the suburbs and mid to upper 30s toward the cape and islands. as we look toward the weekend, it gets progressively colder. farther to the north, the growing season's over which is why you won't see them in effect. it won't be any warmer, i can tell you that much. for sunday morning, we've got temps in the 20s to low 30s. it actually gets a little colder as we head into monday morning with low to mid-20s. i think you can hit the freezing mark in boston. if you can do that, it would be the earliest attempt since '79 and on average, the first temp is november 4th. down. a chill in the air and the rowers on the water. we'll take a full look at the weekend forecast and lots of events coming up in a little while.

coming up, the rookie rowers who may get some of the loudest cheers this weekend. we'll introduce to you the state troopers who will be testing their skills against the best rowers in the world. now at 6:00, it is a brother's mission, and it's paying off. he was determined to find the people who bombed pan am flight 103 killing his older brother. now his breakthrough is making international headlines. ken is a documentary film-maker who lives in somerville and spent years researching the pan am bombing. his work has now helped authorities to identify two brand new suspects. bill shields is live in the satellite center with this tremendous story. >> reporter: this is a testament to someone's undying love and a testament to determination. >> he's one of the appeal on board the 747 that was bombed over scotland. >> reporter: when his brother died on pan am flight 103, ken tornstein was 19.

now, almost 27 years later, ken has solved this massive international puzzle. who with respect bombers, the ones the fbi and british did not get. >> they got the tip of the iceberg. >> reporter: it's more than two guys. >> i think common sense told them and they also had concrete information. >> reporter: two libyans were convicted and they knew there were more involved. africa daffy fell, ken went into libya several times and documented his exhaustive work. has taken years. >> we had a list of names and started knocking on doors. >> reporter: the search led to two men, abdullah, a khadafy intelligence officer, and this man, abu agillah. he figured out agillah was the mastermind. >> i found out this bomb-making mysteryman was alive. >> reporter: now the united states government may go after

>> the one who connected the wires and, i believe, pushed the detonate near the pound of semtex, his hands i believe were on the bomb. >> reporter: his work has already prompted washington to look into his findings. pore me it is a remarkable story of sharp investigating and determination. live in the satellite center, i'm bill shields, wbz news. >> so impressive. bill, thank you. check out this is wild video. a car crashing into a liquor store in worcester. it happened during the night. two cars collided at the intersection just outside kirsch liquors. the force of that crash sent one of the cars right into the start. luckily, no one was hurt. it was a long nature for the owner and his employees who needed to clean up to get the store open on time. >> it's just an ungodley mess. what you see now is, you know this is, like, heaven compared to the way it looked when i got down here. we opened at 9:00, and i told at 9:00.

got to take care of my customers. >> as if the crash wasn't bad enough, right after the accident, some people took advantage and ran into the open store and stole cartons of david? paula, after a month on the run, three men have been arrested now for killing a man in a mission hill parking lot. luis baden makimo was shot in the head behind the stop & shop on mission hill. he and a friend were in the restaurant when two men came in and saw him. he got frightened, tried to get away. the decades old christian campfire was not arson but an accident that burned a building at the groton wood baptist camp. investigators think a propane torch ignited wood there but they also can't rule out an electrical short. the building was first used as a barn more than 300 years ago.

in rhode island a police officer was videotaped slamming a student to the ground. now he's under investigation. here's the video. you see the school resource officer handcuffing one student then throwing another to the ground. authorities say the kids in the video are brothers, and the one thrown to the ground was pushing the officer. his brother was being arrested for screaming obscenities about another student. authorities are confident the officer did the right thing, but they want to be certain. >> as bad as it looks, there's always more to the story, and that's what we have to investigate. >> reporter: hundreds of students protested the incident in pawtucket on thursday claiming that police used excessive force. police say they were threatened and had to use pepper spray to help control the crowds. eight students and two adults were arrested. donald trump bringing his presidential campaign back to massachusetts. the republican candidate

even mitt romney couldn't win here. trump tells joe matthew that he thinks he could win massachusetts. turning to the democrats, hillary clinton may be turning things around in new hampshire. a new poll puts clinton at 37%. you soo he bernie sanders there at 35%. most polls to this point have showed sanders. more than half of the voters questioned for the polls said that clinton won that debate. a group of uber drivers is trying to organize a strike for this weekend. a group calling itself uber freedom wants drivers to avoid answering calls on the app this weekend. they say services like uber and lyft are cheating drivers while making huge profits. they are demanding an increase in fares and want customers to have the option of tipping drovers. -- drivers. >> you share everything but they don't share their profits. >> the strike was supposed to

. >> the head of the charles regatta drives teams from around the world. one team making its debut tomorrow got its start closer to home. for the first time, the massachusetts state police will have its own team in the race. >> kate merrill met the troopers at a last-minute training session.

i hope they are ready, kate. >> reporter: david, among those 11,000 world class athletes that will be out here this weekend will be a boat with four men who are usually spending their days protecting us out on the streets. instead, this weekend, they will be out on the charles living their dream. >> boat coming out! >> reporter: getting geared up for the head of the charles is truly a team effort from practices to training, racing on the charles river this weekend is a big deal for most of the racers here, but for this four-man team it is a total shock. >> a dream. absolute dream. i mean, i grew up in lexington. just watching all of the boats coming through. i never thought i'd be able to row in the head of the charles. >> reporter: this is the first ever state police rowing team, four state troopers hitting the water after a very, very long break. >> the last time i rode was 20 years ago. that was with college.

>> reporter: for shawn maloney, he never dreamed he would be here. >> if you asked me if i would be here eight years ago, at the time going through renal failure and dialysis and kidney transplant. >> reporter: now surrounded by all of these teams, they will hit the charles to compete. while they just started training a few weeks ago, their bond is stronger than most. >> it's nice when you have a group of guys that work on a job together and compete together, too. >> reporter: an amazing feat for these guys who have seen it all but come race day, don't ask them to see anything but the water. if you are rowing and in the middle of the race you see somebody committing a crime on the banks there, do you have to stop and spring into action? >> i'm focused on the rowing. my head's in the boat. i don't think i'll be looking around to see what some knucklehead is doing. >> reporter: it's safe to say they will turn a blind eye to

they will be nervous, too. they admit that. they want to inspire firefighters to get a boat next year and have a real competition with them. the question is, what kind of weather will be nice to these guys? >> well, help them, maybe. we'll talk about big storms. the only time it's been canceled is 1996. there will be wind. these are tough people, these rowers. >> yes. >> they can handle just about any weather you can throw their way. they are out on the water right now still in tank tops. >> it's very cold. >> yes. it's certainly going to be a chilly forecast. we're in the mid-50s for tomorrow. the wind, yes, it's going to be in place. mostly a head wind at 10 to 25. a brief shower tomorrow, not expecting much in the way in the active rainfall. so the basin itself will get turned up and it will be

we had one cold front that brought thunderstorms to cape cod to kick off the day. that brings in the next round of cold which is deeper than now. for tonight, we're falling back into the 30s. most stay above freezing. boston is 35 degrees which would be the coldest night. tomorrow, we're talking upper 40s in the higher elevation into central massachusetts. mid-50s elsewhere. slightly milder relatively speaking for the cape getting into upper 50s. and we'll be watching for a chance of the couple of the quick rain showers moving through. very few and far between. you notice they are in the white mountains. snow coming down tomorrow, expecting a coating to maybe as much as 3 inches of snowfall as you head up toward sunday river. on sunday morning, we're clearing out and we are cold. it's going to be one of those mornings where you head out to the bathroom tile and your feet are freezing. by the time you head into the afternoon, you only warm into the low and middle 40s which is way below average.

baystate marathon, big qualifying race for a lot of people. on sunday morning, it's all about the layers. temps will be in the low 30s at 10:00 a.m. again that wind is also in play. our coldest morning of all is monday morning. it's low to mid-20s. boston doen to 32 degrees. i think everyone sees a frost or hard-killing freeze except for perhaps the outer cape, nantucket, and martha's vineyard. a very cold start to next week. in terms of the foliage, it's beautiful, seemingly all across new england at once right now. you've got to know, though, with the cold, a lot of leaf drop will start occurring over next few days. great photo op, though. if you are heading through the lakes and mountains, you'll get the foliage below and the snow through the middle of this weekend. the accuweather seven-day, cold with less winds. we start to warm back up after that. so as we're back out live here on the charles river as we look toward that warming trend, all of this cold that we're talking about, that's going to be more

of a short-term thing a two-day hit of the cold. as we head into next week, we begin to warm up. in the 60s and close to 07 degrees as we head into wednesday and thursday. so it might hurt a little for shower. we've got the wellesley oyster- fest. it may be looking more like winter attire than autumn attire but we've had a great stretch here. i don't think anyone can possibly complain about the fall we've seen up to this point, even though we're talking 20s and teen business monday. >> beautiful till now. they will be bundled up along the charles over the weekend. thank you so much, eric. from some of the strongest athletes in the world, those well. >> talking about the patriots. dan, it seems like people won't be just happy if they win this blowout. >> reporter: anything from 80 to 100 points. we're finally inching closer to sunday's revenge game as the

patriots face the colts in indy. terrell brown is out with a foot injury while tackle nate solder is out with a torn bicep. this week, that will extend to the next band over it thanks to the depth of the pats' roster and at built to move to the full line's different positions. the depth is important to every football team. >> they've got the area position really. you never know when you will need it but you know you're going to need it. we'll see how it goes. we've got, you know, guys in this building that we feel like we'll be able to take care of the situation. >> reporter: as for the colts after missing two games with the right shoulder injury, quarterback andrew luck listed as a full participant today. colts owner told espn there is a strong likelihood that luck

will start against the pats. head coach pagano told reporters that it look goods right now for luck to start. for more on this upcoming big showdown between the pats and colts and much more, tune into wbz tonight patriots all access coming up at 7:00. then start your sunday with patriots game day at 11:30. steve burton will be out in indy. right after the game, tune to wbz for the fifth quarter post game show. on the college front, boston college eagles practiced ahead of the matchup with number five clemson. the eagles offense hasn't managed to put up too many points but the defense making waves around the country. they are hoping the cgd can keep them hanging in. >> there's no pressure nap's what we're supposed to do. every great defense has to create turnovers and points. >> come out ready to go and do what we can to help win a game. >> reporter: tune in to my tv

38 for the weekly is it von with b.c.'s coach. brookline native sam kennedy seen with his parents at fenway park officially took over as the new red sox president. he replaces larry lucchino who's cutting back. kennedy has been the sox coo since 2009 told me he has big expectations for his hometown team. >> we have high standards here in boston. we've fallen short of that the last two years. we finished in last place after winning this improbable world series, so it's time to get off this roller coaster or at least go back up to the top of the roller coaster and be competitive deep into the season and hopefully get into the tournament and see what happens in october. >> david and paula, i asked sam if he, you know, had to swear on a red sox program if he presidents today. he said, no, i met with the mayor in city hall today. well. >> i like sam.

this cockatoo flew his coop in july and is easy to spot. the strange noises have been ruffling fathers in the neighborhood and he's even chewed on the home there where robert kennedy was born. >> he's sort of splintered the shingles off and did extensive damage to the corners. >> you know, while we're empathetic, he isn't what we had in mind for the house. >> reporter: so this is a cockatoo that's been elusive, and since the bird can't stand the temperatures that are coming, there is some urgency to get him home. he actually belongs to a local woman. >> she lives in the neighborhood. her name is shauna. she's heartbroken over this. we're hoping that the next turn of the story is that someone gets up in the ladder and captures that bird. i would, but i'm petrified of birds. >> you cannot do this money
