a killing frost, huh, barry? >> yeah. not too bad in most locations. we have a few cold pockets like norwood airport. the always cold places there in the low-lying locations. it's 48 in downtown boston out at logan airport. here's some clouds across northern number. the impulse, which has been circulating through and moving into maine now is actually causing thunderstorms near the maine coast and just offshore. that's crazy stuff for this time of the year, but it's so cold out there. that energy is moving away from us. we'll have some clouds from time to time and we'll also have some nice, sunny spells as well today. ed freed warning is up. today's high is around 54. and an isolated shower can't be ruled out. tomorrow, it's partly cloudy in the afternoon, only up to 46 and a gusty breeze. we'll have the rest of the accuweather forecast in a few minutes. back to you, kerry.

morning. a massachusetts state trooper has been injured in a late night collision. he was at a construction detail on the pike in his cruiser. he was sitting inside and was hit by a truck. it happened around 10:00 near exit 17 and newton centre. mass general. no word on the extent of his injuries and no information released. we'll continue, of course, to follow this breaking story and bring you any details that become available. quincy. a man was hit and killed by a commuter rain trail. investigating. there are major delays as they have to replace regular train briefly. and a developing story out of manchester by the sea where some residents are waiting for water service to be restored after a 100-year-old water main broke down yesterday afternoon town.

crews worked all night to get it restored. three-quarters of the customers were back by the evening. those efforts didn't help business owners, who were forced to close temporarily. >> we had to cancel 260 reservations for today. >> the town will have to decide whether it will spend millions to upgrade the antiquated system. a 20-year-old hacker is now under arrest, accused of stealing personal information of u.s. military members and giving it to isis. speak was detained in malaysia. they say he stole names, addresses, phone numbers, and photographs of more than 1300 service members. isis posted that information online in a kill list, urging

lone wolf attacks against those americans. u.s. officials are working to bring him back to the united states to face charges. a local routetry film- make -- local documentary film- maker found two new suspects in a 1988 bombing and what it took to find them. >> so he's traveling twice before lockerbie. >> reporter: ken's passion for unraveling this mystery is personal. his older brother david died in the bombing of pan am flight 103 and ken grew up knowing many of the people responsible were going free. >> that's what was frustrating.

30s in suffolk county. a pawtucket, rhode island police officer is under investigation over some controversial video. as you can see, the school resource officer handcuffs one student and throws another to the ground. what you don't see is that the one thrown to the ground had been pushing the officer. the two students are brothers. one of whom was being arrested for screaming obscenities about another student. >> as concerning as it looks, there's always more to the story, and that's what we have to investigate. >> hundreds of students protested in pawtucket on thursday, claiming police used excessive force. police say they were threatened and had to use pepper spray to help control the crowd. were arrested. california is still struggling to get out from under feet of mud. coming up, when things could finally return to normal. >> and later, how doctors here in boston are giving new hope

it will take days to reopen one of the nation's most congested highways. mud has choked off travel on california's interstate 5. mudslides trapped more than 200 cars and trucks on the road north of los angeles. some cars were buried in 6 feet of mud. rescuers needed to use ladders and tarps to help hundreds of people trapped in their cars. fortunately, no deaths or injuries were reported. barry burbank is in the house this morning, bringing us some chilly temperatures, i must say.

it's cold out there. there's not too much mind not much happening across the nation. one front went by yesterday. another impulse going by. there it is right there. a weak little low pressure area on the coast of maine. that's producing thunder and lightning there this morning along parts of the maine coast. so we have places like brunswick and the islands may be getting thunder and lightning just offshore. we have one more front to come, and that's coming through this afternoon. that'll be a cold front. so you can see the rain and snow showers across the mountains today. here we've had a few patches of clouds in the last couple of hours. it looks like it's going to be clearing out, becoming mostly sunny this morning. we'll have more patches of clouds passing this afternoon. so sort of a changeable sky. there will be times when it's

bright and sunny and more patches of clouds will come across and blot out that sun clearing out completely tonight and nice and sunny tomorrow morning. once again, we'll have streaks of clouds streaming by and a gusty breeze tomorrow. the coldest of the air comes down later tomorrow and tomorrow night into early monday and moderation begins after that. high temperatures today, about 54 in boston. 56 in cape cod. 52 in worcester county. the national weather service has issued a frost warning. we've already had freezing conditions in parts of northwestern and north central massachusetts already. the growing season is going to end with these temperatures tomorrow morning. many of the suburbs 36 at logan cape cod. highs tomorrow should be in the middle 40s.

even some 30s way up in the far northern areas and around 50 on cape cod. in the 20s again but lower tomorrow morning and getting close to that 32-degree mark in boston. if it goes to 32 monday morning, that'll be the earliest since 1979. so that's crazy cold stuff. the first 32 in boston, the earliest was october 5th in 1881. the average was november 4th and the latest was just a few years ago in 2009, december 6th when that happened. here's nigh seven-day forecast. here we go. we've got mid-50s for today. we've bot mid-40s tomorrow. -- we've got mid-40s tomorrow. then a nice warm-up after that. it should be warming up to the lower 60s on tuesday. low to middle 60s on wednesday and thursday. probably will be showers on thursday as the next system goes by and gives us another cold shot about friday.

the parents of a baby girl are celebrating an outlook for her they couldn't have imagined before they came to boston. they were planning her funeral until they decided to try something else. as paul burton explains, doctors here in boston are giving them new hope. take a look. >> there's nothing like the feeling of looking down at your child, your newborn child and just wondering when her last breath will be. >> reporter: abigail's journey has not been easy. before birth, doctors diagnosed her with an inoperable brain tumor. >> we didn't know if she would make it out of the hospital. >> reporter: the joneses made funeral arrangements for abigail. mom, who is a nurse, said the doctors told the family there was nothing they could do.

prepared us that she would live. >> after baby abigail was given a death sentence, the family took her home for hospice but noticed the baby wasn't getting any worse. so they got a second opinion at boston children's hospital. that's where the story changes. >> we didn't think there was enough evidence to give the baby a death sentence on the basis of pictures. last week we went to the operating room, opened up and removed the mass. >> reporter: the tumor was not malignant. >> she is a miracle. she's missing a large portion of the left side of her brain. she should have problems with function. she should not be a normal baby, but she is. >> reporter: the family says though abigail still has down syndrome, they believe she will live a long life. >> we always prayed for abigail to be healed. however that works out, god's still going to get the glory

tomorrow morning and monday morning, c-c-c-cold. we've got some 30s out there and even down to 30 in norwood at the airport there. there are colder pockets where there has been radiational cooling and the wind has dropped off. the wind will pick up later this morning, and it will be rather gusty this afternoon at 12 to 25 miles per hour. that's what it's like right now. we can see the clouds moving across northern new england. there have even been thunderstorms down east from portland, maine along the maine coast as a bundle of energy moves along the coast and spirals away. we are seeing batches of clouds go by, so changeable amounts of clouds will turn sunnier again later and then it will clear out tonight for sure to support a freeze warning up for much of the region. so it looks like temperatures will be going down in the 20s. the hard freeze is going up. 54 today. only 46 for a high tomorrow after we start off only in the 20s to lower 30s in the

that donald trump held this event in tyngsboro. tyngsboro is not far from new hampshire. jim smith, wbz news. hillary clinton, meanwhile, and bernie sanders are nearly deadlocked in new hampshire less than four months before the democratic primary. a new suffolk university poll puts clinton at 37% to sanders' 35%. clinton may have turned things around with her debate performance earlier this week. more than half the voters questioned in this poll say she won the debate. 50% of those polled say vice president joe biden should not enter the race at this point. after a month on the run, three men have been arrested for killing a man in a mission hill parking lot. lewis baden maximo was shot in the head in the middle of the day about a month ago behind a stop & shop in mission hill. prosecutors say he and a friend were in a restaurant nearby when one of the suspects came in and saw him.

baden maximo was frightened and tried to get away, but the suspects caught up with him. check out this wild video. a car crashing into a liquor store in worcester. two cars collided at the liquors. the force of the crash sent one of the cars into the store. fortunately, no one was hurt. it was certainly a long night for the owner and his employees who needed to clean up to get the store opened on time. mess. what you see now is like heaven compared to the way it looked when i get down here. we opened at 9:00. i told the guys we will be open at 9:00. customers. >> as if the crash wasn't bad enough, right after the accident, some people took advantage and ran into the store and stole cartons of sheesh. new developments at a fire at a decades old christian camp.

in massachusetts where it was clear part of the night before the clouds rolled in. it's 35 in bedford and 30 in norwood. 32 in taunton. all of these airport locations are in the low-lying spots where the radiational cooling is at a premium. even 35 at hyannis. here we go with the map and here's what's happening. not much across the nation today. we had one front go by yesterday. we had this bundle of energy go by early this morning. we have yet another cold front to come through this afternoon, so the combination will give us clouds from time to time. that disturbance this morning actually caused thunderstorm as long the maine coast a while ago. we had about 25 to 30 bolts of lightning up in here just down east of portland. not as much lightning now. it seems to be weakening and moving away. a couple of sprinkles around the region. not much of anything to be worried about. some showers, rain, and snow across the northern mountains today.

pennsylvania instead of taking the baby to the hospital for severe dehydration. she was arrested in boston. a massachusetts state trooper injured while at a construction detail on the pike when the suv cruiser he was sitting inside was hit by a tractor-trailer. it happened near exit 17. the trooper is being treated at mass general. no information about the truck driver is being released just yet. meanwhile, a man hit and killed by a commuter rail train in quincy. that happened near the wollaston station last night. the norfolk d.a.'s office is investigating. a developing story now in manchester by the sea where some residents are still waiting for water service to be restored. part of a 100-year-old water main broke down yesterday afternoon, shutting off water to most of the town. crews worked all night to get

canada. we are in for a couple of cool nights ahead before the wind shifts to a southwesterly direction and things change. so we've got this first disturbance coming through with quite a few clouds coming through now. producing thunderstorms near and just off the maine coast and over parts of cape cod. hyannis. hyannis with rain going on between nantucket. that's where the thunderstorms are going on. not frequent lightning but at least there is some. some local downpours getting a few places down there. freeze warning's up by the national weather service for tonight from 1:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. hard freeze and the killing of the growing season for sure. the next cold front will come through this afternoon, which may bring more clouds back in. after we get rid of the clouds we have now, it'll clear out

police say he showed a gun and demanded cash. so if you have any information, you are asked to please call the police department. it will take days to reopen one of the nation's most congested highways. mud has choked off travel on california's interstate 5. the mudslides trapped more than 200 cars and trucks on the road north of los angeles. some cars were buried in 6 feet of mud. fortunately, no deaths of injuries were reported. now to campaign 2016. hillary clinton and bernie sanders are nearly deadlocked in new hampshire. a new poll by suffolk university and "boston globe" puts clinton at 37% to sanders' 35%. now, clinton may have turned things around with her debate performance earlier this week. more than half the voters questioned in the poll say she won the debate. 50% of those polled say vice president biden should not enter the race at this point. all month, pamela gardner

they can be part of the solution. >> so there's awareness with the heel-a-thon. >> reporter: a fun event. one of my favorites because you put on your favorite pair of heels and walk a short distance. >> wedges. >> i opt for stilettos, but we have women that show up in sneakers. it's not mandatory. again, that's usually the first sunday of every june. that's been going on now for the past fuhr years. >> i really want you to talk to me about this new magazine. this is a brand new effort. again it was launched now, this past thursday. so congratulations. this was something that was a dream of yours for a while now. >> talk to us about that. >> it's been in the making now for the past two years. we had been waiting on funding. finally, we have that, and we are grateful to our donors. essentially, it is a digital magazine, and the digital

partnered with us to create this one of a kind application, an online domestic violence awareness magazine. essentially, it is an online piece that will focus on three areas. stories. two often, victims are victims not heard. this offers them the opportunity to tell their stories whether they choose to publicly or anonymously. >> yeah. >> hopefully reaching somebody who needs to hear what someone else is going through. then we focus on safety tips that can help out the average american but essentially focusing in on a victim or a survivor. so in the launch issue, there's a video story that talks about the best dead bolt locks for your door.

up on the scene, they find that the abuser has kicked down the door. it's because of a flimsy lock. it also focuses on shining a spotlight on the people that do the work behind the scenes. so people hear the word advocate being thrown around all of the time. what does that mean? >> exactly. >> how can they help me? what's going to happen when i end up in a shelter? what does a shelter look like? we're going to spotlight all of these different things. so people can now put a face to it. >> it says, again, we're watching the flier up on the screen. it says until friday. we'll be extending that. >> sheet sets and/or pill lows. essentially those donations are taken and given back to a shelter of our choice. this year, the agency runs on the south shore that helps
