he was shot in the head while pursuing a suspect. the suspect was taken to a hospital. >> the nypd news conference took place overnight. good morning, bree. >> reporter: good morning. randolph holder is the fourth police officer killed in the line of duty in 11 months. it all started with a stolen bike, a bike stolen at gunpoint. with another officer, holder confront the suspect in the bike theft and -- confronted the suspect in the bike theft and shots were fired. holder was hit in the head. he had five years of experience and his brother and father were police officers in his native country guyana. his fellow police officers are asking the public for support. >> we're asking as you go home, before you lay your head down, please say a prayer.

student in the bathroom stall september 1st. she says she caught him. when the school found out, placed on leave. we went to his north grafton home where neighbors say he lives with his wife and twin boys. the woman inside told us to police. ma'am, is he home? >> go away or i'll call the cops. >> reporter: now police have his phone as they try to find any evidence that may or may not be on it. >> i think he should lose his job. he shouldn't be doing what he's doing. >> reporter: the doctor faced a judge on tuesday for a hearing. he'll be back in court in december where i'm told we'll learn much more about the case against him, which i am told is lengthy. hillary clinton has reclaimed her lead over bernie sanders according to new poll numbers released this morning.

the poll finds clinton leading sanders 38 to 34% with vice president biden. just 9% if he decides to run. the poll was conducted after last week's democratic debate that shows improvement for clinton. wisconsin congressman paul ryan says he will run for speaker of the house to replace john boehner but on his terms. he says he will only run if he has endorsements from all of the major republican groups, including the freedom caucus, which drove boehner to resign. kevin mccarthy was run out of the race. ryan says he wants to unite the house, but there's one thing he's not willing to do. >> i cannot and will not give up my family time. i may not be on the road adds often as previous speakers, but i pledge to try to make up for it with more time communicating our vision, our message.

>> colleagues have until friday to express their support. a brookline teacher loved by students is getting his job back. the district fired larry chen for swearing in front of students. the students and parents fought back and it worked. chen released a statement that says he's excited to get back to work with his "awesome students." an investigation under what i in sudbury. a swastika is found in the bathroom. police don't believe it's aimed at any specific student but are meeting with groups of students to discuss the seriousness of this. maura healey will not crack down on fantasy sports sites like draftkings. according to the "boston globe," right now, there is no state law specifically banning the game, healey says she will continue to review the consumer protection issues such as fair play and disclosure of risk.

man they say attacked a student on the campus of bridgewater the 18-year-old freshman was when she was assaulted. the two were talking on the social networking app kick and person. >> my mom taught me not to talk to strangers, and now i know you can't trust anyone online. >> the suspect is a white man, 5' 10'' with a deep voice. he was pretending to be a college student but he's actually around 25. a man and his wife are safe after a dramatic camper crash on 495 north. they say their love of nascar helped save their lives. peter and his wife carol were towing their camper down the highway when a tractor-trailer lost a tire and came flying straight at them. they say that they take their camper to nascar races all over the country. he says yesterday that paid off.

mobile app that allows shoppers to authorize transactions with a selfie, meaning no passwords or thumb prints needed. right now, about 200 people are testing the selfie pay app in the u.s. no word on when this will be available to mastercard customers. subway's on track to using only meat raised without antibiotics at its restaurants. the sandwich chain says it won't serve antibiotic-free chicken in march with turkey making the change next year. serving pork and beef raised without antibiotics would be by 2025. subway is part of a trend of fast food restaurants doing away with the medicine in its meat products. chipotle, mcdonald's and chick- fil-a have also made that pledge. the world's largest toy- maker says kids may not get their hands on legos. the factories are running at

pamela, yay. >> it's warmer than it was the past couple of days. >> yeah. >> temperatures are going up the next couple of days. today, high temps will be in the upper 50s. not much of a change to where feel fantastic. overcast and dealing with showers. live look at doppler radar. you can see a spew specs of green indicating a few sprinkles. maybe a couple of showers. a brief downin a couple of spots but other than that, nothing too, too heavy. south shore all the way to the cape, you guys are getting the bulk of the rain. more showers are lining up to the west here. this line will continue to march right across the center of new england, basically over the mass pike. here's the latest timing. hour by hour forecast as the front times out. nothing's too heavy.

cloudy -- overcast skies, mostly cloudy. we also have a cold front moving through late thursday. another round of rain expected thursday evening. again, not a complete washout. boston right now 58 degrees, and we're running a tad warmer compared to the time yesterday in all locations. nashua, keene, booster 56. falmouth running at least 10 degrees warmer here in boston compared to this time yesterday. fantastic temperatures and staying rather mild throughout the rest of this morning. 1:00 p.m., we click down to 56 degrees. 60s are easily found across the southeastern parts of mass chute, even on the capes and islands there in nantucket. lows tonight back in the upper 40s, lower 50s thanks to the cloud coverage we expect. it will help track in some of the daytime heat and by thursday, warming up to 70 degrees. we have a chance for some light

afternoon as a cold front sweeps through. the colder air doesn't kick in until the overnight hour dips into 42 degrees for friday morning's low. 53 friday afternoon. cool and breezy but fantastic fall weather with lots of sunshine. sunday the pats game, 59 and a couple of showers. we stuck that in the forecast. back to you guys. it is 4:47 right now. how valuable are mammograms? even doctors can't agree on this one. years, the american cancer society is changing its guidelines spelling out who should get mammograms and when. dr. mallika marshall takes a closer look. >> so i get mammograms every year, on a yearly basis, and i've been starting since age 40. >> that's because katrina harris, a 50-year-old mother of three was told that's what the american cancer society recommended. no longer. for the first time in 12 years, they are changing their guidelines to say women at

average risk should begin screening at the age of 45, get annual mammograms until 55 and then every other year. the new recommendations are falling more in line with those of the u.s. preventive services task force, a group of experts that makes recommendations about screening tests. where they still differ, however, are women ages 45 to 55. the task force suggests screening every other year starting at age 50. so which guideline should women follow? >> there's probably no one size fits all answer to the question of should i get a mammogram? dr. keating co-wrote an accompanying editorial. >> women in the late 40s and early 50s have a generally lower risk of breast cancer and lower risk of dying from breast cancer, but it's not zero. then we have the test mammography which is not a perfect test. so it decreases the likelihood of dying from breast cancer by about 15%.

>> reporter: which means many women don't benefit from having regular mammograms. >> it would be nice to have a screening test that dropped your risk by half. >> reporter: until then, keep talking to your doctor. >> we increasingly recognize the limitations of the test and importance of interacting and helping patients to make this decision with our support and advice. >> reporter: katrina says she has no plans to change her behavior. >> even when i do reach 55, i receive my mammograms. they may be armed and police say they are dangerous. >> ahead, the multistate manhunt for a massachusetts couple accused of robbing several banks. >> history in the making, the high school team going for a

taking a photo of a student in the bathroom. the doctor has been placed on paid administrative leave. he's due back in court in december. a second autopsy will be done on the remains of bella bonds. the judge ruled in favor of the defense request in court yesterday. bella's mother and her boyfriend have both pleaded not guilty in this case. prosecutors say mccarthy killed girl and bond covered up the crime. and registering as a text offender for the rest of his life. a judge upheld owen la brie's conviction for luring an underage girl to a sexual offender. he was found not guilty on rape charges. a frightening case of road rage in rehoboth. one driver threatening another with a hatchet.

brian dighton faced a judge yesterday. police say he was driving erratically behind another car that he apparently thought was going too slowly. the victim told police, art forced him to a stop, got out of his car and begin swinging a hatchet. >> i was littually just flab -- literally just flabbergasted. you hear about this happening but you think, this doesn't happen in my town or doesn't happen to me. i didn't know what to do at fist. i just picked up my -- didn't know what to do at first. i just picked up my phone and called 911. >> police haven't found the hatchet yet. a quincy couple wanted by police in three states. police say they are a modern day bonnie and clyde. they are wanted in three bank holdups over the past three weeks. one in ludlow, the isic in florida, and -- the second in
