the incident itself was not captured on camera. >> approximately 3:27 this afternoon, we got a dispatch of a possible stabbing. we showed up on the scene to observe an individual lying on the sidewalk suffering a stab he was immediately transported to the hospital by ems, suffering what appears to be life-threatening wounds. it is still an active scene. >> reporter: because it is an active scene as you can see still up. the jackson square t station remains closed right now. people who need to use this are we'll bring you more information as soon as we have it.

a man accused of horrific crimes, killing dogs and abusing animals. >> we found more animals on his property, which is a clear violation of his bail. christina? >> reporter: david, i have here copies of complaints to the salem police department here from jason gentry's neighbors saying barking dogs wake them up early in the morning, keep them up late at night, and what's of more concern to them, animal abuse charges. a dog in the backyard, signs in the fence surrounding the home of jason gentry. awaiting trial on a list of animal cruelty charges, court papers out of lynn show the judge's handwritten order when gentry posted bail not to possess any dogs. yet, when i knocked on the

court document, a barking dog inside caught me by surprise. [dog barking ] >> reporter: does that raise concerns for you knowing there's animals living with him? >> we understood he's not animals. >> reporter: neighbors want to remain anonymous, but they know he is accused of killing dogs, hanging them, and leaving their bodies near a revere dumpster and running a kennel with what police call deplorable conditions in lynn. when we brought it to the attention of the animal control officer, he paid a visit to gentry's address, but he wasn't there. police have been here before on barking complaints. the courts never notified the police of this order. now that you've seen that court order does that concern you? >> it does. i need further interpretation

control officer has been to that address before, responding to complaints, he says, general trip's live-in girlfriend told them they were her dogs, not his. there were court documents in other cases against him where he lists a different address in swampscott, but neighbors in salem say he is definitely living in this city money in salem, christina hager, wbz news, back to you. to try to stop cases like this from happening, an animal abuse registry is being proposed in massachusetts. it would give pet shop owners, shelters, and breeders access to names of people convicted of animal cruelty. in this particular case, gentry's name would give people in the industry a way to make sure that pets go to responsible homes. lisa? david, also tonight -- >> i've lost more sleep than all of you put together. >> former secretary of state

composed and definitely on the hot seat facing questions of her handling of the deadly attack in benghazi. the hearing is still going on right now. for the latest, we want to get to liam martin. liam? >> she began testimony at 10:00 and as you said, she is still going. republicans charge that she covered up the motive for the attack. >> the attackers used diesel fuel to set the compound on fire. the safe room was anything but safe. >> reporter: hillary clinton recounting the heroism of the four who died. >> they were heroic and did all they could do to try to save their colleagues' lives. >> reporter: the remainder of the more than six hours of testimony was bitterly political.

this committee amounts to a witch hunt, intended to derail clinton's pain. >> republicans are squandering millions of taxpayer dollars on this abuse of effort. >> we have learned nothing substantively new about what happened in benghazi. >> reporter: republican committee members pressed clinton on why repeated requests for more security were ignored. >> he asked numerous times for extra protection. did he have your personal e- mail? >> he took those requests where they longed. he took them to the security professionals. >> clinton did again take responsibility for security failures and said she launched new efforts after the attack to batten down other facilities. >> i thought more about what happened than all of you put together. >> reporter: this testimony comes today as a new cnn poll shows 72% of americans believe that that benghazi committee is mostly using its mission for political gain.

then -- 10:00, 10:30 tonight and temperatures will cool off. for many of us, the sun will be back out tomorrow with high lisa? >> thanks, danielle. an american soldier rescuing hostages in an isis prison has been killed in northern iraq. the soldier is the first american to die in combat in iraq in four years, and it is the first time u.s. forces have stepped in on the ground against isis. officials do say 70 hostages who were to be executed were saved in that rescue mission. tonight, the man accused of killing a 4-year-old girl in a case of road rage in new mexico is being held on $650,000 bail. police say 32-year-old tony tores confessed to killing lily garcia. she and her father were in the truck when he and the other man started cutting each other off in traffic. tores opened fire on lily's father's pickup. he is charged with murder,

we have a developing story out of sweden. a masked man armed with a sword attacking teachers and students killing two people. let's get to paula ebben with the latest details on this. paula? >> reporter: one student thought it was a halloween prank until he saw the man begin stabbing his teacher. this image was taken of the 21- year-old attacker just before he went on the rampage wearing all black. he walked into the school with a helmet and mask. police say he started knocking on classroom doors and attacked whoever responded. a teacher and a student were killed. another teacher and student seriously hurt and are now fighting for their lives. that attacker was shot and killed by police. a motive here isn't clear, and there's no word if he had any connection to the school, but ironically it was just this morning that the teachers at the school held a meeting about their fears about the lack of security in that building. paula ebben, wbz news. lisa? >> troubling, mall la. thank you.

breaking news now at 5:00, a suspicious fire in brockton may have been set in retaliation. the brockton enterprise reports there was a fight on walnut street before the home went up in flames. crews put it up and now they want to know if somebody set that on purpose. one firefighter is being treated for smoke inhalation. two brookline firefighter as rested off duty have been fired. firefighter joseph ward was arrested earlier this month after police say he attacked a man at honest taqueria. he's facing assault charges. jeremy joseph was also fired, arrested a week ago for driving drunk. in a statement, the board of selectmen called the actions by both men egregious. now to the patriots, a big game this weekend as the pats take on the jets, first place on the division line, we go right to levan reid. >> reporter: big players make big plays. every time the pats play the line.

we have three big health stories now at 5:00. first how nail polish could be bad for our health. cheese is about as addictive as drugs and another reason not to give kids too many antibiotics. dr. mallika marshall is here. we're talking about antibiotics. the concern is not just that they could build up an immunity to the drugsp. in kids. these were researchers that looked at 15-year-olds. those who received antibiotics

pounds heavier than children who had not. we know is changes the bacteria in your gut and therefore may change the way kids absorb calories. so another good reason for you not to beg your pediatrician for antibiotics when they don't need it. nail polish? >> a chemical has been linked to affecting hormones and weight gain and looked at 3,000 nail products including nail polishes and found that 49% of them contain this chemical. then they looked at 26 subjects and had them paint their nails. they identified this chemical in their urine. so environmental groups are saying, look, companies should remove this chemical from their products and in the mean tile, women should probably use it more sparingly. >> wow.

reading of the year is typically november 1st. so we could sneak one more in, but we've got cooler air that's coming back into the mix tomorrow. 71 in boston right now. southwest breeze 16 miles per hour sustained but we're gusting over 20 miles per hour. that wind has been strong over 20 miles per hour from taunton to plymouth back down to the cape. some gusts to 30 as well. this wind will stay strong until the front crosses the region later on this evening and cooler air comes in behind it. i'm tracking a couple of showers as well. even a few downs just pushing off. quickly here. you'll encounter a brief light shower from kingston, new hampshire, hampstead as well merrimack valley. winchendon in some of the deeper oranges here back towards ashburnham and the cape cod shower. light green's here from wareham to bourne to sandwich and one shower about to creep up to woods hole here in the next

here comes the front that crosses the region. there may be steady rains then clearing comes in. the sun will be shining tomorrow, but high temperatures top out in the low 50s. so it will be about 20 degrees cooler than this afternoon. sunshine. it'll be another cool day, but look at what happens. we get a little coastal cloud cover that fills in. we don't want you to be caught cloudy. saturday is a dry day, though. sunday is a different story, though. showers in the morning lingering until early afternoon and partial clearing comes in after that as the air works in. what does that mean for the game day forecast? pregame tailgating will likely feature a few showers. not a washout and not heavy downpours. by kickoff, there may syllable a brief isolated shower around and just a few lingering clouds. overnight tonight, dropping to

the upper 40s in boston. would it be surprised if some of the cooler suburbs dip into the upper 50s tonight? 50 to 54 for highs tomorrow, but mostly sunny skies. upper 40s in worcester county. action cue weather seven-day, another day in the low 50s on saturday and sunday up to around 60 as that front comes in, though, it drags in cooler air to start next week. clouds should thicken up by wednesday, though, and some significant rain is possible wednesday night into thursday. you guys, we could use the soaking rain. that would be towards the middle part of next week. >> stay inside and eat that six-cheese mac and cheese. tonight, a new warning that hands free doesn't mean danger free. aaa now says the hands free technology that's designed to keep your attention on the road could be more dangerous and more distracting than originally thought. researchers say even with a hands-free device, drivers have to get out of the distracted zone and concentrate on driving which can take up to 27 seconds to make that transition. still to come, spreading

love and kindness in memory of colleen ritzer. >> the wonderful ways people are remembering the teacher from danvers high school. >> and a brave little boy hit by a car gets the chance to say thank to you the police officers who helped him. a room full of teachers year-old. >> my maim is maxwell. >> the entrepreneur, author and nonprofit founder who's only in trying to teach the adults about. >> we always have to remember there's more good in the world

showing strength by spreading kindness. today people all over the state really focus on doing good deeds in memory of a teacher killed in danvers high school. >> this is called kindness for colleen. friends and family say it is just what she would have wanted. beth germano has the story. >> reporter: it's not every day free cookies are given away in danvers. call this a random act of kindness as rebecca goes looking for recipients in memory of colleen ritzer. >> we just try to rally around the community and help whenever we can. >> reporter: and when they showed up with goodies at this retire mont home it was random but with purpose. >> we try to do this in andover. >> reporter: this embodies her spirit, they say. >> this is, like, better than i

doing these acts of kindness makes me feel like i'm doing good for colleen. >> reporter: it was two years ago the 24-year-old math teacher was brutally murdered inside danvers high school. rather than dwell on the sadness of the anniversary, these friends are making gestures in her honor. >> if one thing really stands with people about who she was, it's that she was a truly caring and kind person. >> reporter: colleen's family hopes it is a reminder to anyone on the receiving end that it'll be their turn to pay it forward. today social media lit up with acts of kind acts. in a statement, they said "our family is overwhelmed in support of the kindness for colleen effort." we are proud that proud that she inspires people to be good to others. >> we're able to do these acts in her name. >> reporter: acts like this she
