. from the channel 4 studios in boston. this is wbz this morning. good saturday morning we begin with breaking news at 5 a.m., a deadly shooting over night in brighten. we'll have the latest on the investigation coming up in just a moment. hurricane patricia once the strongest hurricane recorded storm. make no mistake, it is still a very powerful storm made landfall in mexico there are reports of widespread flooding and landslides. residents are bracing for 15

hours of waves up to 30 feet along the coast. thanks so much for joining us, we want to get right to pamela gardner with an update on our morning pamela. good morning to you, we also want to keep you updated on patricia too. this thing is weakening extremely quickly as it runs into a mountain range here in mexico and the friction of the land hoping to slow things down max wind speeds of 70 miles per hour, moving northeast at 21 miles per hour. it is a quick mover and continue to weaken to a tropical storm by 11 a.m. today with 45 miles per hour wind speeds expecting the southern cost of texas later on with heavy rain, we expect it to be a tropical depression later tonight. temperatures in the 20s and 30s, it is an icy cold start, 2 boston, lawrence, 31 degrees.

13 degrees colder in boston. throughout this afternoon tons of sunshine but then coastal clouds move in becoming partly sunny by 4:00, 52 degrees and we're tracking rain for sunday and maybe for the patriots game i'll let you know how it will affect your tailgate plans in just a bit. hundreds of flights into and out of mexico have been canceled and emergency craws are going to the streets there warning residents and tourists to stay sheltered until the storm has passed. >> hurricane patricia roared ashore at 6:15 local time about 55-miles west northwest of manzanillo mexico as a rare and dangerous category 5 storm. it packed 165 miles per hour winds as it made landfall. forecastest say patricia's heavy winds and rains are expected to trigger flash floods and mud slides before

have updates throughout our broadcast. a developing story, two middle school students are under arrest accused of threatening to shoot up their school. this is the second threat of school violence this week. the chief of police tells wbz the whole thing happened quickly around 1:30 friday afternoon a student contacted police to say a friend told him don't come back to school on monday i'm going to shoot the place up. the student who allegedly made the threat is just 14 years old and he told the tipster a 13- year-old would be providing him the weapons to make good on his threat. police arrested both but found no weapons or ammunition in their home. >> could he have actually completed his task based upon the search warrants, no he didn't have the items he needed to complete a shooting of the school. but we're just not going to tolerate any type of statements. >> police are worried this incident might be a copycat crime from another incident.

on monday a 16-year-old high school student told a classmate he was planning a shooting and that case police did find weapons and ammunition but no one was hurt. a teenage driver escapes from a crash that turned his truck into a fireball. happened over night in centerville on the cape, sources on the scene tell wbz the driver wasn't hurt but was given a field sobriety test, no word whether that person will face criminal charges. police are searches for the walking her dog. the woman who wants to remain anonymous was walking her puppy and saw a minivan pull up in her apartment at the holden greenhouse on the cambridge somerville line. >> i listened to my instint which i turned as fast as i

once the woman got inside and turned the man slam his body into the door, that woman is okay, harvard is adding extra patrols around the complex. a bingo night turned terrifying. >> i looked up and here is the guy with the black mask and hooddy on. >> two masked men rob an 87- year-old volunteer get away with the prize money. ken mcleod has more. as he got on his radio this afternoon 87-year-old tom duffy was still a bit rattled. tom was in charge of the cash box when two guys wearing masks and gloves when they burst into the knights of columbus. >> here is a guy with a black mask and hoodie on. >> several dozen elderly bingo players watched as the thuggedded made off with their

up the school. called them after warned by a friend to stay home monday because there would be a shooting the student who allegedly made the threat is just 14 years old said he was getting weapons from a 13-year- old classmate it is the second threat this week an monday a 16- year-old high school student planning a shooting. police are searching for a man who tried to abduct an 11- year-old girl in randolph. says the man grabbed her arm when she got off the school bus and told her he wanted to talk to her. she took off running then he ran away. police added patrols in the area as a precaution. the woman who was attacked at harvard university while she was walking her dog is talking about the assault. wbz jim armstrong has details. like a lot of people who live in this quiet neighborhood the victim has a dog and her case it is a 5 month old puppy who at 3:40 friday morning had to go outside she walked into

that's it for sports, wbz sports. we're all looking forward to the patriots game but have to make it through today first, pamela gardner with a look at our forecast. good morning to you, it is a very cold start to the morning we have a mild afternoon and then rain chances for the patriots game. maybe not during, but i'll explain and go through that hour by hour forecast in just a bit. i want to keep you updated on hurricane patricia right now it is a category 1 hurricane, at 6 p.m. central time, 7:15 our time in boston, it had winds of 165 miles per hour. the pressure extremely low at 9:20-millibars first category 5 making landfall in north america since dean in 2007, an incredible storm there and it has weakened considerably in the last several hours now category 1 and it will continue to push to the north and east moving towards texas by 11:00 a.m. 45 miles per hour winds expected and will continue to

weaken as a tropical depression moving through texas, here is the track, it is still going to bring extremely heavy rain and strong winds to the coastline the gulf coast here of texas into louisiana and into the entire gulf coastline there heavy showers expected but not expecting any tropical storm force winds or hurricane conditions like what mexico experienced right now in boston 39 degrees, real temp 32 with a wind for the north at 10 miles per hour, it is quite brisk out there. 20s in a lot of spots for friends to the north, and cape south coast you guys have 40s to start off the day not a bad morning mostly clear skies hour by hour forecast, we'll start to increase the cloud coverage by late this morning 10 a.m. 47 degrees, getting close to 50 for noon for 2 p.m. here in boston, and expecting some coastal clouds to develop as well. highs in the low to mid-50s, beautiful day today, very fallish and not quite as

windy as yesterday. it will feel a little milder. over night, rain moves in late 45 degrees, patriots forecast, game day tomorrow 1 p.m. kickoff time 62 degrees with brightening skies during the game but a chance for an early shower especially during your tailgate hours. first one to show you this noon. notice the clouds move in from the coast but then we have additional clouds moving in from the northwest ahead of our next system, 5 p.m. tonight into the early morning hours, keeping temperatures mild. spread across the area from a.m. those showers around the boston area but then they sort of break apart by 1 p.m. will continue to see clearing conditions this whole system moves out and we'll have a dryer day for monday, tuesday, and a brief warm up for tuesday into thursday with temperatures
