breaking news. a house engulfed in flames after an explosion. we're live with breaking details >> a car crashes through the front of a dunkin' donuts injuring two people we're tracking our next chance for much needed soaking rain. new england patriots eeking out a tough win at gillette. . breaking news tonight from taunton. sky eye pictures of a house destroyed by an explosion.

now there's nothing left of the structure. good evening everybody. >> thank you for joining us. the woman inside that house incredibly was able to escape. jim smith is live in taunton with this breaking story. reporter: i just confirmed just a few minutes ago with the taunton fire captain that anybody who was inside that house was indeed able to escape and that's amazing when you take a look at the scene here behind me. look at that rubble. it is absolutely incredible. all that is left of this house explosion. >> i thought a tree fell on my house. reporter: an inferno in taunton a house destroyed and totally engulfed in flames. it was late after when suddenly there was a huge explosion. neighbor took this incredible video around the same time we saw a living inside the house

>> the owner ran out of the house screaming for help. i recognized her we called 911 and assists her. the house went up this flames. in really a matter of 3 minutes, and then within 40 minutes the roof caved in. it was really amazing. reporter: the neighbors say it appears one woman was home. she was upstairs and somehow got out in time. at this point it appears to be a possible gas explosion, but the investigation is ongoing. >> called 911, saw the house like keep getting further and further on fire. our neighbor she was hysterical. she was concerned that she didn't want any of us get too close she has a gas furnace. reporter: after this explosion and fire here in taunton you can just imagine what this was like. this is a very quiet suburban neighborhood. everybody home on a sunday, a lot of people telling me they were watching the patriots game on channel 4 when suddenly all of the solitude of the

huge explosion and again repeating what fire officials are telling me anybody who was in the house was able to escape. you can see investigators here job number one that they know that everybody's okay is figuring out how this explosion happened and what the deal is and certainly the suspicion is this is a gas explosion but obviously we have to make sure we'll stay on this story and have an update later on tonight. jim smith wbz news back to you. >> a dorchester man is under arrest after an armed assault early this morning. police tell us a woman was attacked and thrown to the ground near park drive as the suspect attempted to steal her purse. when the victim fought back that's when the attacker slashed her with a knife. police were able to arrest himself blocks away. the woman suffered nonlife-threatening wounds. two people rushed to the hospital after a car crashes through the front of a dunkin'

donuts in canton. it happened at washington and church streets in the center of town. the woman driving and someone inside the dunk inwere both hurt but both are expected to recovery from their injuries. patriots survivor a close call against one of the best defenses in the nfl beating the jets 30 to 33. >> it was a tough game. the pats remain perfect 6-0 on the season. a lot of smiling fans have got to be there tonight dan. reporter: what a gail. this one was fun to watch, tough hard hitting everything you'd want. the patriots came in with a perfect 5-0 report records jets on their heels at 4-1. when it came to crunch time the patriots turned to tom brady once again. amendola. off 23-20.

continue to take it to the jets throwing on almost every down. brady reads the blitz by wide open rob gronkowski. the patriots beat the jets 30- 23. >> i thought we'd play better as the game went on. it was good. we got a good turn out from our defense to start and then it wasn't great execution from us for most of the game then there in the 4th quarter we did a few different things made some more plays. so it was good to win. reporter: they made the plays when they had to. that was the difference. in this one coming up in sports in just a few minutes we'll hear from head coach bill belichick plus we'll show you the team the patriots play in a quick turn around game on thursday night. we'll show you how the dolphins did against the texans. >> all right dan we'll see you in a few minutes. jimmy fallon was rushed tomas general hours after accepting an award.

fallon you can see right here fell when he abruptly turned around and tripped over a woman who was kneeling down. fallon has been sporting a bandage on his finger he nearly severed it in an accident last june. a boston family remains stunned by the murder of a father. the family is just trying to make sense of what happened. >> it's a total shock. reporter: the family of clyde francis is devastated. the 49-year-old was fatal shot by his niece. >> he would give the shirt off his back. he didn't shy away from helping anybody. reporter: on sunday boston police remained on guard. she allegedly shot her you can until the head she fled the scene in a car. she was arrested hours later at a home in peabody. louis worked for boston police

before resigning in 2012. the motive behind the shooting remains a history. >> a surprise never seen any sign of violence. >> they just need their privacy to get together and be able to come to grips with this because it's awful loss, clyde was rushed to brigham hospital where he was pronounced dead. >> he was loving tender kind true. reporter: relatives read a statement from the family. >> we are grieving for a beloved son, brother and father, a life lost forever . >> they feed prayer. they do. those that believe in god please pray for them. reporter: louis is due in court on monday. paul burton wbz news. a developing story from providence where police are searching for a hit and run driver who seriously injured a ever. police say 27-year-old matthew gallant was off duty when a car swerved into his pickup truck

firefighters were shocked to learn the victim was one of their own. >> we're glad that he got through surgery his internal injuries have been taken care of up to this point. but it's still unsettling just goes to show you how fragile life is and it can happen to anybody at any time. >> gallant is a fourth generation providence firefighter. his condition has been upgraded from critical to serious. also developing tonight in ashland union street is closed between cedar street and route 135 ever source crews repair a wires. a car crashed into the pole around 1:00 this morning. two people in the car were rushed to the hospital with unknown injuries. area without power. a 56-year-old millbury woman is dead tonight killed in apartment. call came in around 9:00 last night for a fire in this public street. officials say the woman was disabled and they believe she was smoking in bed.

the five story building does not have sprinklers. fire crews were able to contain the blaze to the victim's third floor apartment. structural engineers checking out a commercial building in medford after the roof there partially collapsed. the building housed a dry lean cleaner but was vacant at the time. some of the damage could be seen from the street. a large section of the roof cached in. the empty floor of this building was being evacuated at the time to remove hazardous materials. engineers have to decide whether or not that building needs to be torn down completely. controversial comments on the campaign trail. >> coming up ben carson's position on abortion and what he wants to do if he becomes president. >> he's no longer a candidate but everyone is still talking about joe biden. >> britain's prince harry coming to the u.s. a clearing sky later tonight and overnight temperatures will be in the 40s in boston 30s in the suburbs.

an inch to the north of providence to the west of brockton around foxborough where they had a very heavy downpour during tailgating hours. it was a great afternoon for us. and we'll keep it dry overnight as temperatures fall into the 40s and 30s for some. we're still holding at 60 degrees in boston. real feel temp 60 wind from the west at 12 miles per hour indicating that the front has passed through. this morning winds were from the south now from the west. cooler, drier air funneling in as we speak. temperatures in the 50s. 52 degrees king. worcester 52. taunton 60. 65 in chatham of it overnight a low of 38. suburbs easily dipping into the low to mid 0s. areas of patchy frost low-lying spots but i think most of us will have enough of a breeze throughout the night that not expecting widespread frost.

34. boston holding at 40. mid 50s. a very fall like forecast for you thankfully lots of sunshine. cool than today. light breeze from the north. hour by hour forecast want to show you the big picture the remnants of hurricane patricia still facting the gulf coast this area of low pressure is going to sit there for the next 24 or 48 hours. eventually heading our way and actually meeting up with the low pressure system moving out of the northern parts of the u.s. here. high pressure in control notice for tuesday, monday into tuesday. but then after that point in time the lows combine, moisture kicks in and we get some widespread soaking rain into 7-day forecast. 50s dry monday tuesday wednesday 58 with rain. thursday 68 spotty showers. back into the 50s for friday into next weekend. for now halloween looking all dry for the trick-or-treaters

what you call a perfect fall sunday in new england nice weather day and of course the patriots helping us out. >> i'm not going to call it a nail-biter you but in the 3rd quarter there was a couple of moments i was intensely focused on the game. reporter: it was tense here at the cbs -- everyone expected this could be a tough game for the patriots and it was. but in the end new england made the plays it had to make and come out with 0-23 win beat go new york jets to remain a perfect 6-0. things look good but the jets will get a field goal of their own and take the lead on this fantastic touchdown to jeremy kerley.

four down for the pass to get in but they did on fourth and goal from the one. brady is the keeper up and over the top in the end zone. new england abandoning the running game brady scores we're tied. ad a couple more field goals and the jets trailed 16-10 before retaking the lead in the 3rd quarter. >> second and 6 for the jets down 16-10. threatening at the new england 9-yard linement fitzpatrick drops back he has -- ivory catch into the end zone untouched and the new york jets are even awaiting the extra point here in foxborough. reporter: things awfully quiet inside gillette. take 20-16 lead before brady took over. brady to adleman on a big 3rd and 17 for the first down that was huge set up this.
