from the south look okay. expect. 93 southbound busy in the medford stretch. lowell. 495 trouble free. news. police are investigating a hit and run in saugus. >> we're told a mercedes took off from the scene. nicole jacobs is live from the scene. the driver actually left behind some clues. >> reporter: certainly not on purpose but that vehicle did have some parts that were left at the scene. police are of course using that with hopes of finding this vehicle. i did speak with state police just a short time ago. they say they're still looking for it so anyone who can help with that, they'd like to speak with you. i want to get right to some actually several hours ago. details are few but here's what we know right now. according to state police, a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle that did not stop.

we're told the victim was transported from the scene with life threatening injuries, unconscious and not breathing. at this point authorities do believe they are looking for a red mercedes-benz that again will have some damage to it because of the vehicle parts left behind. anyone with information with regards to this crash is urged to contact police again. state police telling me a short time ago they're still searching for the vehicle. nicole jacobs, wbd this morning. >> thank you for the update this morning. we're also following a developing story in canada. a whale watching boat sinks killing five people. this happened off the vancouver island in british columbia. 27 people were on board the boat when the captain issued a may day call. 21 passengers were rescued. crews spent the night searching in the water for one person missing. investigators looking into

what caused this home to explode. the home on christine lane was almost instantly engulfed in flames yesterday. the blast is being investigated as a possible gas explosion. a woman who lives there escaped just in time and neighbors say the woman had been on an upper floor but somehow she managed to get out. >> came running out and saw the owner who had just run out of the house frantic and come running down the street screaming for help. i recognized her. we called 911 and then assisted her. the house went up in flames and really in a matter of three minutes. and then within 40 minutes, the roof caved in. >> crews say it's a miracle nobody was hurt. they spent last night digging up lines and also checking the rest of the street to make sure it's safe. today a mother will be in court to defend herself against ak sayings she ignored dock -- accusations she ignored doctor's orders and put her son in danger. she triggered an amber alert in pennsylvania last week when she

drove her son to boston's children's hospital but she says she has no regrets. >> everything in me told me tiffany, go. get your baby to children's hospital. >> against medical office tiffany didn't take her 2-year- old baby to the nearest trawp ma center. >> i wasn't comfortable with the standard of care my child was receiving. >> instead she drove four and a half hours away to a hospital she trusted. >> he was found at boston children's hospital to vishes with his es -- to have issuees with his esophagus and low blood. the nurse practitioner who looked at my son for ten seconds and didn't have a clue what she was looking at. >> reporter: his mother no longer has custody. tiffany was arrested when she got to boston. now out on bond, she insists an amber alert was unwarranted. >> i think the pennsylvania authorities just pretty much jumped the kind. >> reporter: tiffany says she's

protective of her kids because her first child was stillborn in 2009. now she wants her two living children back in her arms. >> it hurts. it hurts. >> she still face twos charges of child endangerment in pennsylvania. 5:06 on your monday morning. a marshfield mother is due in court today accused of driving drunk and crashing her car on the cape all with her 6-year- old daughter in that car. she may have been driving drunk. minutes later a car hit a pole on route 2 and caught on fire. bystanders helped the 6-year- old out of the car. she suffered minor injuries. police rescued the mother before the fire got out of hand. a dorchester man is also due in court today after an armed assault in the fenway neighborhood. boston police say a woman was attacked and thrown to the ground near fenway -- near park drive early yesterday morning as the suspect attempted to

steal her purse. when the victim fought back, police say the attacker slashed her with a knife. police arrested the suspect, 53- year-old wayne barber several blocks away. the woman suffered nonlife threatening injuries. a former boston police dispatcher accused of killing her uncle is expected in court this morning. 36-year-old yvonne lewis was arrested in peabody hours after 49-year-old clyde francis was shot in the head outside the family's hyde park home saturday night. a motive for the murder is still a mystery. >> total shock is an understatement. he was very playful. he was loving. he was tender, kind, true. >> lewis works for boston -- worked for boston police as a communications equipment operator before resigning in 2012. police in providence are searching for a hit-and-run driver who seriously injured a firefighter there. the head-on crash happened early yesterday morning. 27-year-old matthew gallant was

off-duty when a car swerved into his pickup truck. firefighters were shocked to learn the victim was one of their own. >> we're glad he's gotten through surgery, that his internal injuries have been taken care of up to this point but it's still unsettling. just goes to show you how fragile life is and it can happen to anybody at any time. >> he is a fourth generation providence firefighter. his condition has been upgraded from critical toker is. three men are due in court today accused of making meth inside a burlington hotel. police arrested the three men friday night at the son nest take es suites after -- sonesta es suites after a tip from a hotel employee. one of the suspects was seen wearing an ankle bracelet and acting suspicious. they found meth inside the hotel room and plastic bags for covering the smoke detectors. massachusetts leaders will take part on the package for the opioid addiction tonight. governor baker is expected to attend this one.

also to the south. we're seeing a backup on 128 southbound in the braintree stretch. that's heavy and slow between logan express and the braintree split. chris and bree? >> thank you very much. breaking news out of saugus. police searching for a hit-and- run driver. the victim was hit last night around 10:00 on route 1 southbound. the person was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. investigators are searching for a dark colored possibly red mercedes that has damage to it. parts of the car were left behind at the scene. another top story we're following this morning, investigators trying to figure out what caused this home to explode in taunton. the home on christine lane was almost instantly engulfed in flames. fire crews say the blast is being investigated as a possible gas explosion. a woman who arrivals there escape -- lives there escaped just in time. luckily nobody was hurt. a 56-year-old millbury woman killed in a fast moving fire in her amount. the call came in around 9:00

the public housing apartment building on elm street. police say the woman was disabled and they believe she was smoking in bed. the five-story building did not have spring letters. fire -- spring letters -- sprinklers. firefighters were able to contain the fire to the third- floor apartment. >> i give firefighters credit for stop wrg it was. no other resident was affected by this. >> this is the first deadly fire in millbury in 15 years. a scare for some customers at a dunkin' donuts in canton when a car smashed into the store. the driver and an employee inside the shop were rushed to the hospital. that crash happened at dunkin' donuts at washington and church streets? the center of town. police say the woman who was driving isn't sure what happened. >> she was obviously stunned, not quite aware of what had just happened. she had to be extricated from the vehicle and transported to the hospital and the employee as well was quite stunned

being struck by debris the next. >> police say the store wasn't very busy at the time. both the driver and the employee are expected to be okay. structural engineers are trying to decide if a commercial building in medford needs to be torn down after the roof partially collapsed. a large section of that roof caved in with debris falling inside the building. the building once housed a dry cleaner but is now vacant. there's now video of the raid on an isis compound in iraq where a u.s. soldier was killed. u.s. special forces and kurdish fighters stormed the compound on thursday to free 70 hostages. the raid was the first time u.s. forces directly engaged isis militants on the ground in iraq. critics have raised questions about the united states' role in iraq but u.s. officials said decisions were made quickly because they believed time was running out. >> we knew the hostages would

we knew this because we saw -- dug graves. >> joshua wheeler of oklahoma was killed during the raid. the 39-year-old's body returned saturday. a night of celebration in cambridge ends with a trip to the hospital for jimmy fallon. the tonight show host was in town on saturday to receive a humor award from the harvard lampoon. fallon hurt his hand when he fell when he abruptly turned an was feeling down. he was -- kneeling down. he was taken and treated at mass general. he posted this picture on instagram with the caption "nothing a few band aids couldn't fix." a few months ago he had emergency surgery when he hurt a different finger in another fall. matt damon's out of this world adventure back on top at the box office. one spot. the movie took in more than $5 million in ticket sales.

to start the week off with another big game. investors rally on wall street. jill wagner is live at the new york stock exhange with today's money watch. good morning, jill. >> good morning. chris and bree. strong earnings for tech companies rallied markets friday. the dow jumped another 157 points. the nasdaq jumped 111 points. this week investors are watching as the federal reserve holds its policy meeting. sounds like a broken record. they're looking for insight into when the fed could raise interest rates. board members have said the economy is still not strong enough. lord & taylor is getting into the discount game. the retailer plans to start a discount chain called find lord & taylor. the first store would open in november in new jersey taking over a 30,000 square foot space that once housed a loehmann's.

first lady punish shoal -- owe michele and -- [ inaudible ] danielle is here with a check of our forecast this morning. a little cooler out there. >> a little cooler, probably by 5 to 15 degrees for most of us. what a range in temperatures, too. from 28 degrees in keene right now to the upper 40s and even 50 degrees on nantucket. a lot of 30s and 40s in between. it's 45 in the city of boston right now. 34 in norwood. 43 in plymouth and 50 on nantucket is the mild spot across the region. there's a little bit of frost out there as well. skies mostly clear. we're in for a beautiful fall day with mostly sunny skies and temperatures cooler than average running in the lower 50s this afternoon. here's some moisture. you run into it through kentucky and tennessee and it gets steadier and heavier through mississippi and alabama down through louisiana. a big area of low pressure, the remnants from patricia.

this will eventually impact our weather by the time we get to the middle part of the week. for now high pressure is building in, providing us with a quiet day today and another nice day tomorrow. although you'll notice high thin action wispy clouds -- high, thin wispy clouds during the afternoon wednesday. notice wednesday morning dry commute but here's the rain knocking on our doorstep. we'll fill in by wednesday afternoon. so it will become steadier and heavier through the day. wednesday evening's commute will be a tough go with areas of rain heavy at times. it will continue overnight on wednesday into early on thursday morning. so i think we're going to kick this thing out of here, at least get some breaks of sunshine by thursday afternoon just a stray shower. i know it's early but looking ahead to gillette stadium for kickoff. breezy, mild with clearing skies. temperatures in the lower 60s. similar to the game yesterday and falling in the 50s with a southwest wind probably 10 to 20 miles per hour. we'll keep you posted on that.
