>> just heard a screech. it was long and loud. reporter: neighbors wake up to a deadly horrifying sound. >> it was like dynamite. my house shook. reporter: state police say a car driven by 31-year-old south bridge woman was traveling eastbound on route 20 in oxford for reasons under investigation she crossed the centerline and entered into the westbound lane where she collided head-on with a cement truck inside her car was 8 pont and 8 month and 2- year-old boy. the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. the 8-year-old is on life support the 2-year-old boy is receiving emergency treatment at you mass good the baby's sippy cup on the ground the car is covered over with sheets it's just awful. reporter: the impact caused the cement truck the roll on to its side. >> i seen the truck driver sitting on the back of a pickup truck crying saying i killed somebody.

pushed the woman's car into a third vehicle driven by 55-year- old south bridge manny and his passenger were also taken to the hospital. >> you look up the road and there was that car up there oh, my god. reporter: route 20 remains shut down in this area as state police investigate the accident and crews try to remove the cement truck from its side. this part of route 20 is windy and hilly. pass dot says there are plans in place to make this road safer by installing a barrier that would separate traffic in both lanes. >> this corner is the most pennsylvania. i don't know what they are going to do about it. reporter: so far no names have been released. this highway has been opened up as of just a few minutes ago. officials say since 2003 there have been 31 accidents on this oxford. this one was fatal and remains under investigation. we're live in oxford paul burton wbz news. >> i'm thinking about those little boys thank you so much.

saugus. they found a car that hit and killed a man. they are working on finding the driver though and anyone else who may have been in that car. the victim was a 33 year-old man from new york who was hit 1 last night. a couple quincy linked to bank robberies have been captured after a police chase. liam martin. reporter: that couple led authorities on a high speed chase this pennsylvania before they were caught. this is the scene from the end of that high speed chase today on i-95 where police eventually arrested joseph and jenny carrier. the two allegedly hit a bank this morning in delaware and then fled north up 95. that chase ended with the suspects collide with two police vehicles. no one was injured in that now the 37-year-old married couple known as the quincy bonnie and clyde allegedly began that robbery spree in late september. they then left a trail of wanted posters up and down the east coast. they are accused of hitting banks in ludlow, massachusetts,

florida, maryland and now delaware this morning. local officials say the two are originally from the springfield area and had been fighting a heroin addiction before moving to quincy to be with family members there. it is not yet clear where the two will be arraigned they are facing charges and multiple charges across multiple states but we will stay on top of that for you. >> liam thank you. at 6:00 -- >> it was an explosion the house next-door now it's on fire. >> a gas explosion rips apart a home in taunton. the woman inside survives, but now we know it was a repair project that caused all this. jim smith is live in opportune ton with some new information on this story. reporter: david that repair job was on a natural gas hot water heater and the homeowner tried to do it on her own by herself. well she ended up accidentally breaking a gas valve and then gas natural gas those vapors

explosion. god. >> we're on our way. reporter: the inferno on christine lane a terrifying explosion that touched off a roaring fire destroying a single family home in taunton. now it turns out it was caused by a homeowner trying to fix her gas hot water heater by herself. >> i guess she didn't have hot water and she was fiddling with the hot water heater then she went upstairs to her bedroom and then her closet door blew open, the front door blew open he ran out. reporter: fortunately the homeowner was able to make it out safely. she was the only one in the house. >> came running rung out and saw the owner who had just run out of the house frantic and then come running down the street region for help. i recognized her we called 911 and assisted her and the house went up in flames and really a

roof caved in. it was really amazing. reporter: as for do it yourself repairs on a gas heater, the experts say it can lead to tragedy. >> if you're not a licensed plumbing heating contractor or gas fitter, you're not supposed to be touching the gas at all. so, that's one thing i would say to people do not touch something if you're not qualified. reporter: the state fire marshal is sending out the warning tonight especially when it comes to gas appliances you really shouldn't try to fix these things on your own. as far as the homeowner goes she didn't get a scratch she's currently staying with close relatives incredible story. live in taunton jim smith wbz fuse back to you. >> she lucked out there. jim thank you so much. well, as you look toward your work week you're going to build extra time for your commute. >> apparently a lot of rain on the way. chief meteorologist eric fisher has been tracking it all. >> patricia major hurricane as

crossed over the mountains of mexico came out toward the gulf coast we have clear skies in new england very impressive tweeted out a picture the full satellite presentation not as strong when it comes to winds but it's a huge system actually much larger was a hurricane at that time going to bring us our rain the middle of the week. we're back into the 20s clear skies about 35 in downtown boston and then we'll track the storm system. tomorrow is a quiet day clouds thicken up towards wednesday as we head into wednesday evening the heaviest rain starts to move its way up to coast. looks like a pretty good soaking bed night thursday morning this is also going to include a decent amount of whipped as this works its way through going to bring down a lot of leaves creating minor street flooding we'll look forward to halloween. >> always look forward to halloween. just in the nfl not giving up the fight in deflategate. the league just filed a new brief in its appeal.

. two pedestrians hit in olston this happened on western avenue. police and fire crews are on the scene and right now we don't know the extent of the injuries. we are told that the driver here did stop. the state inspector general is criticizing a deal between boston and red sox. two years ago the boston easement authority permanently gave the red sox permission to shut down yak he way on game days they declared yough he way a blighted area. inspector general said there wasn't enough evidence to support that designation and the city didn't get enough money for that particular land. you were just saying it

to 32 on the dot tonight. 20s just about everywhere he else. very cold start to our day tomorrow. make sure you've got a good size jacket ready to go when you walk out the door in the morning. afternoon tempts bright skies light winds on target for this time of year. i want to focus in on weather make for this week. patricia's recommend fans no longer tropp car called extra tropical. lot of energy tropical moisture still along with the system. as we head into wednesday morning the clouds will be thickening as all that approaches from the west. the rain showers will start to break out in the afternoon. i think the heaviest rainfall in the evening and overnight. a lot of this rainfall will be happening wednesday night thunder heavy downpours street flooding that goes along with us. that lasts into thursday morning before we quickly dry out heading toward the late morning hours on thursday. terms of rain totals i think it's going to be a widespread 1 to 3-inch rainfall events

river flooding it's been so dry. we had a big rainstorm the entire months rainfall deficits are about 7 to 8 inches for the year across the area. much needed rain a lot of it happening while we sleep. will bring quite a bit of wind that wind picking up on wednesday afternoon kick kicking in wednesday night this is to bring down some beautiful foliage. going to get us raking turn that raking season into high gear. most of us gust national guard the 25 to 35 miles per hour range but especially on the south coast the cape some of those gusts could be up to 50 miles per hour. could bring down a couple of tree limbs cause power outages to go along with it. for thursday night football mild temperatures tailgating well into the 60s slight chance of a shower and drying out cooling off into the 50s not bad at all. then we look toward the weekend it looks nice on friday and saturday. halloween day looks excellent. temperatures around 51 by 5:00 p.m. clear skies 40s for trick-or- treating weather not a nuisance this halloween. you get an extra hour of sleep
