it's wednesday, october 28th. we're halfway there. >> like jon bon jovi. >> humid start out there. it kind of felt sticky. >> yeah. it's not as cold as yesterday. we do have changes on the map, guys. today it's 46 in boston right now. a lot of 30s but at least it's not 20s like yesterday. 31 in norwood. so a couple of spots may dip into the upper 20s. mid-30s from the merrimack valley back down to the south shore as well. the clouds thin enough right now that we may get a bit of filtered sunshine this morning. notice the raynoching on our door -- rain knocking on our doorstep. it does come in by mid to late afternoon. the only exception may be the outer cape and islands where it's just a couple of showers.

possible. that will linger into early tomorrow morning then taper off towards the tail end of the commute. so for today, enjoy the quiet weather for now. 40 degrees with clouds thickening up through rush hour. the wind is going to start to increase as well. areas of rain move in mid to late afternoon. we'll talk more about the coastal impact and strong wings coming up in a few minutes. it is 4:32 right now. we begin with breaking news. a raging fire. look at this. it appears through a building in lynn. >> dozens of people forced out into the cold. nicole jacobs is live on the scene with details. >> reporter: chris, kathryn, the fire is out now, but certainly it was a fierce one. take a look here to the right side. you can see the windows completely blown out, charred out inside. investigators are still there working to determine exactly

i want to get you right to some video from overnight where the flames were absolutely fierce. when crews arrived here, the chief says there were flames shooting from the rear of the second floor in the walls and traveling through the ceiling, moving very quickly. everyone was evacuated. the chief says that was actually a challenge simply because of the time this fire happened. residents were either in bed or heading to bed but no one was injured. that is certainly the good news here. the chief says the conditions changed so fickly, they weren't even able to initially do a secondary search, which is something they typically do. they do that first search and then do a secondary search. he says the conditions were just too bad. taking another live look here. this is actually the rear side of that building where the chief says he believed the fire started. the second and third floors are actually apartment units. the bottom floor here is a restaurant.

certainly everything still under investigation here. you can see still very much an active scene. we'll continue to bring you updates throughout the morning. chris, kathryn, back to you. >> thank you very much for the update this morning. developing right now, boston police looking for this man wanted in connection with a murder in brighton last week. they say he should be considered armed and dangerous. 30-year-old desmond joseph was shot and killed last thursday. if you see this man, you are asked to call police right away. a 5-year-old boy hit by a car while getting off his school bus. >> this morning, his bus driver is off the job. julie loncich has the story. >> reporter: there was a car parked right here. his head was laying against the car that was here. >> reporter: kristin nelson felt powerless as she felt down to do what she could for a young boy so badly in need of help. >> first his eyes were closed and he was not alert at all. then we just kept talking to

open your eyes. he opened his eyes and was trying to get up. don't move. >> he had an egg on his head the size of a half of a baseball. he was bleeding from the mouth. it was an awful sight. >> reporter: worcester police say the car hit the 5-year-old after he got off his school bus alone. >> everybody around here was like, how is it possible that this little boy is out here with no guardian? happened. the abby charter school admits that much, telling wbz it is against school policy. students are supposed to be picked up by a parent or guardian. the bus company says its driver thought the adult at the bus stop was the boy's parent. >> there's no excuse for that. >> reporter: the boy is expected to recover. welcomed news for several good samaritans grateful they were present when a child needed them the most.

little kid should not be debting off the bus without someone there to get them. >> reporter: he's in stable condition and is supposed to be okay. as for the driver. car that hit him, that driver stopped and has not yet been cited. in worcester, julie loncich, wbz this morning. the department of transportation will investigate a part of route 20 in oxford where a mother and infant son died. investigators are recreating the accident scene. 31-year-old christina rusen died monday morning. police say her car swerved over the center lane and hit a concrete truck on route 20. her 9-month-old baby noah died at the hospital a short time later. >> you can't assume she was on the phone, she was distracted, you know? it's a bad corner. accidents happen. >> this isn't the first time a deadly accident has happened at this location. lisa broder's husband died when his car crossed the center line 18 years ago.

her son is paralyzed for life. she's been fighting to at least get jersey barriers placed there. stoneham police are searching for two robbers who hit a coin shop there. the suspects tased two ploys yesterday morning then zip tied them. the robbers stole a bunch of coins. just last month, robbers stole $300,000 worth of merchandise from the store. a middleborough man accused of choking a 5-year-old is under arrest facing felony assault charges this morning. police say he was visiting a 5- year-old relative in exeter, new hampshire, when he placed his hands around her neck. he's being held on $10,000 cash bail. the fbi and justice department are now investigating this video showing that violent arrest of a student inside of a south carolina high school. bree is here with the newest development. good morning, bree. >> reporter: good morning, kathryn. deputy ben fields is on administrative leave and they

are close to deciding whether or not to fire fields altogether. deputy fields was asked to remove the student from class by the teacher and vice principal. school officials call the tactics outrageous and say they will reassess how the deputies are screened before being placed in school. the sheriff says fields' employment will depend on whether or not he followed the training he's been given in removing that student from the school. the sheriff agrees the video is disturbing. >> i want to throw up. i mean, it just makes you sick to your stomach when you see that initial video. again, that's a snapshot. as a professional, i have to look beyond just that one first video and look at the total picture. that's what we're doing. >> reporter: there are reports that the student punched fields before the video was recorded, but the sheriff says he is not concerned at all with the student's actions, only his deputy's. fields is suspended at the moment. the sheriff expects to complete

>> that's a nice little joke for halloween. >> yeah. >> all right, danielle. you give out the good candy, too, we know it. >> i do actually. i was like, i have to think about it. i always avoided the house. we had one neighbor growing up who gave out toothbrushes. >> that's important. >> that is important, but as a kid, it's like, let's just skip right over that house. >> we've got the rain and wind and coastal flooding. current temperatures 46 degrees in boston right now. the dew point's in the lower calm right now. so we have a little bit of frost not in the city of boston but where we have dipped into the 30s. so it's 35 in lawrence. 30 in keene. lower 30s in keene. it's not as cold as it was yesterday. nevertheless, it was a chilly start in the suburbs. clouds have moved in, but they are high, thin ones at first. we'll get a little bit of sunshine this morning and the clouds thicken up quickly. enjoy the morning commute.

not the case as we head throughout the afternoon. we're tracking rain coming into eastern pennsylvania. this rain will arrive from west to east mid to late afternoon. i think in the city of boston, maybe 3:30, 4:00, the rain event is in. so it will be around for your evening commute. the rain will fall steadily and heavily at times overnight tonight into the morning commute tomorrow. i can't even rule out thunderstorms in there that could bring strong winds down to the surface as well. tomorrow morning's commute will be impacted with downpours early. then we get the rain out, and the sun breaks out. we come up to 70 degrees and even low 70s tomorrow. a cold front comes in late in the day with a brief shower late afternoon into the early evening. clearing skies after that. sunshine comes back out on friday. looks like a quiet end to the week. temperatures after being in the 70s. tomorrow afternoon we'll cool into the 50s. projected rainfall amounts, the

inch to 2 1/2 inches. let's call it a widespread 1 to 2. i also want to mention a wind. a wind advisory is in effect for all of eastern massachusetts here. all of the areas shaded in tan. this wind advisory comes into effect this evening at 7:00 p.m. and lasts until 10:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. the wind is going to come out of the southeast. gusts to 45 miles per hour possible. i wouldn't be surprised to see gusts up near 50 overnight tonight. that may be strong enough, especially with leaves still on the trees obviously to bring down some branches or cause isolated pockets of outages. meantime, high temperatures 55 to 60 today. overnight tonight, though, they stay in the 50s and rise for a period overnight tonight. then look at this. as the sun breaks out tomorrow, 72. 60s. 60s on the cape as well after a wet start in the morning and brief evening shower. that includes for pregame

tailgating. temperatures falling into the 50s. we stay in the 50s for friday and halloween. looks like we'll be in the 40s for trick or treaters no problem and back up to around 60 for you guys on sunday and the start of next week. back to you. massachusetts students are tops in the nation according to a new report card out this morning. on the hole, reading scores are down across the country. massachusetts ranked first in fourth and eighth grade math but finished behind new reading score. just before halloween, an eerie discovery by the mbta. costumes. here's bree with the story some think could be a halloween prank, bree. >> reporter: the timing is eerie. the contractor working on the preparations downtown had to --

that spotlights more survivors to attend. the true story is how the "boston globe" uncovered the abuse. the film's stars walked the red carpet at a new york city premiere last night. hillary clinton making an appearance on the "late show" with stephen colbert and talked wellesley college. >> i went to a women's college boston. >> where i understand, you were president of the young republicans? >> yes, my first year, it's true. [ laughter ] >> did you show up in the wrong room on sign-up day? >> no, you know, my -- >> clinton went on to say her dad was a small businessman, and that's in part why she leaned republican. clinton will campaign in new hampshire today. we have to wait just one more day for the pats and dolphins on a thursday night football showdown tomorrow here on wbz. history may be on tom brady's side.
