big for him. >> you'll probably not need it, actually, because the rain doesn't move in. it's always safe than sorry. we have heavy rain overnight into tomorrow morning so it's good to have it in the car. it's not as cold as we had yesterday. we have 20s on the map. we may dip into the upper 20s somewhere like norwood or back up to keene. mid-30s in the merrimack valley. notice the rain coming back through eastern pennsylvania now. so it's off to our west. we'll get a little partial sunshine that peeks through this morning and then rain advances in mid to late afternoon. right before 4:00 p.m. then overnight tonight it's the tropical downpours that will absolutely pour into the afternoon. then the rain tapers off mid to late morning tomorrow.

40 to start, clouds thicken, no weather-related issues for your morning drive. overskies, and winds pick up as well. areas of rain for the ride home. temperatures in the mid-50s. we'll talk more about the wind and coastal concerns coming up. let's get you on the roads though, first. halfway through the workweek, danielle. let's start with a live look over 93 as we check the ride from the north. 93 southbound has moderate volume now woburn to boston but no reported backups. checking the south map now. that needs to be updated right there. you see slowdowns on 95 north. those are gone and those caution signs are overnight work crews, those are gone as well. right now, 24 north is clear coming up from avon, route 3 north and 24 north are speed limit rides. chris, kathryn? we begin with breaking news this morning.

>> dozens of families forced out into the cold. nicole jacobs is live for us with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: kathryn, chris, good morning. it was just around 11:00 last night in lynn where crews were called here to chestnut street. you can see just on the side of the building some of the damage. a closer look here, investigators spent quite a few hours inside that building trying to still figure out exactly what caused it. i want to get you right to some video from overnight where flames were really pouring out of this building as firefighters worked as quickly flames. the fire did reach three alarms at its peak. flames could be seen shooting floor. the second and third floors of this building are actually apartment complexes or say. the first floor is a business. the first goal is to tray to

make sure everyone got out of the building safely. here's the fire chief describing that challenge. >> we took a couple of people out on the ladders on the union street side. we got lines in place in the minutes. we had to get everybody out because of the bad conditions. >> reporter: taking another live look here on chestnut street in lynn, fire crews and fire trucks, ladder trucks and already left. there are still minimal crews here just kind of cleaning up things and manning the posts right now. a national grid truck just showed up. no one was injured in the fire which is certainly good news. they are continuing to investigate the actual cause. although, again, they believe it started in that area where you see the most damage. we'll continue to keep you updated as we learn more. chris, kathryn, back to you. >> thank you very much. boston police identified

with the murder in brighton last week. police say 25-year-old gom atta mouse -- gomatta mousa is armed and dangerous. a car hits a 5-year-old as he's getting off the school bus. this morning, the bus driver is off the job. susie, the school and bus company say that that boy should never have been allowed off the bus. >> reporter: that's right, kathryn. it's against school policy to leave a student at a bus stop without knowing that a parent or guardian was there to pick them up. that's why this driver will not be out on the road this morning or the near future. shortly after getting off of that bus, an accident happened. the young boy was laying on hamilton street bleeding from the head. thankfully, a couple of strangers stopped to help him out.

loose from his neck so he could still breathe. >> reporter: ron was one of a few good samaritans who kept a 5-year-old boy alert after he got off the school bus alone only to be hit by a car minutes later. it happened on busy hamilton street monday. >> he had an egg on his head the size of a half of a baseball and was bleeding from the mouth. >> as far as i'm concerned no little kid should ever be getting off the bus without someone there to get them, especially on a street like this. >> reporter: officials agree. they don't know why the bus driver let the young boy off at his stop without a parent or guardian present. the driver that be suspended pending investigation. he is expected to fully recover. >> i'm just glad the kid is okay. pick up your kids. make sure somebody's there, please. >> reporter: as for the driver of the car who hit that little boy, they were said to fully

stopped and helped police just after the accident happened and they're not facing any charges at this point in time. we're live in worcester, susie steimle, wbz this morning. this thursday, the department of transportation will investigate the part of route 20 where a mother and her infant son died in a crash. investigators are recreating that accident. 31-year-old christina rusen died on monday morning. police say her car served over the center line and hit a concrete truck in oxford. her 9-month-old baby died a short time later. >> you can't assume she was on the phone or was distracted. you know, it is a bad corner. accidents happen. >> this isn't the first deadly accident at this spot. lisa's husband died when his car crossed the center line 18 years ago. her son is paralyzed for life.

jersey bareiers placed in the -- jersey barriers placed in the spotted. the man you see here is facing felony assault charges. he was visiting a 5-year-old relative in exeter, new hampshire when he placed his hands around her neck. he's facing cash bail. this video is being investigated showing the violent arrest of a student inside of a south carolina high school. here's bree sison with new developments. >> reporter: the deputy is on administrative leave right now but the sheriff is close to deciding whether or not to fire fields. that announcement could come today. deputy fields was asked to remove the student from class by the teacher and vice principal. school officials called the tactics outrageous and say they will reacease how school resource officers are screened before being placed. the sheriff says fields' employment will depend on whether or not he followed the training he's been given in removing that student.

disturbing. >> i wanted to throw up. i mean, it just makes you sick to your stomach when you see that initial video. again, that's the snapshot. as a professional, have i to look beyond just that one first picture. that's what we're doing. >> reporter: there are reports that the student punched fields before the video was recorded, but the sheriff insists he's not concerned with the deputies. moment. the sheriff says he expects to have the internal investigation complete today, though, a federal probe could take several weeks. kathryn, back to you. >> bree, thank you very much. boston-based draftkings facing two new federal lawsuits both filed here in massachusetts. two men claimed draftkings and fan duel violated federal law by claiming the fantasy leagues require skill. the suits charge the games are rigged to pay out top players.

if you are heading out the again, long sleeves. most of the rain doesn't arrive, like we talked about, until later on today. currently, 43 in boston. the wind from the north is light right now, 3 miles per hour. yesterday. 35 going long. there is a little bit of scattered frost in the suburbs that's dipped into the lower to middle 30s. 40s on the cape and islands. satellite radar shows the clouds move in. they are thin enough that i think we'll get filtered sunshine. the clouds will thicken. rain arrives mid to late afternoon. right now, it's pushing back through southern new jersey, eastern portions of pennsylvania and western new york. hour by hour, the morning drive is just fine. no weather-related issues. even through lunch hour midday, you'll notice clouds thicken up. we'll be overbut the rain doesn't arrive until west to east mid to late afternoon.

either side of 2:00 p.m. in worcester. 4:00 p.m. in the city of boston and we'll be around for the evening commute. the heaviest rain falls after the evening drive into overnight tonight and it's a very early small morning. mid to late morning, most of the rain will be tapering off. the sun breaks out tomorrow. we push into the low 70s for high temperatures. and then the cold front comes in late in the day, and that means a brief shower that comes in late afternoon to early evening tailgating through gillette stadium. mostly sunny and temperatures cooler again, running in the 50s. how much rain can you expect? we could use a good soaking rain. for most of us, the blues and purples indicate 1 to 2 inches. there may be locally higher amounts here in central massachusetts. the low-lying areas of street flooding, hushen flooding may be an issue in the early morning hours tomorrow. the wind also a concern.

the wind advisories in effect from 7:00 p.m. tomorrow. the wind will increase out of the southeast, even gusts as the coastline. late 50s this evening and overnight tonight. it may be strong enough to bring down isolated branches or cause a couple of pockets of outages. look at these highs tomorrow. we dove into the low 70s as the morning rain departs. 50s by the evening. so plan for 50 at the start of kickoff tomorrow for thursday night football. and milder for trick or treaters and milder for the start of next week. >> at least no weather issues now. >> hey, listen, when you do the school visits, i though kids say weather is cool, but traffic is even more awesome.

>> crews uncovered creepy costumes. some think, bree, this could be a halloween prank. >> the timing is certainly eerie. a contractor working on the $82 million renovation downtown had to jump back when it cracked open a 60-year-old hollow concrete post. inseed, two creepy, ragged beat up costumes. the red and blue capes are decorated with stars and freaky masks attached to them. they date back to the 1950s. here's the brick layer who found them. being discovered the week before halloween with a full moon is uncanny, they say. >> at first i thought it was a practical joke at the time or maybe it was something that got lost when they concreted it >> yeah, really creepy.

a lot of times in october you think of big storms. this one has been dry. >> this is the remnants of patricia. >> there's a lot of tropical moisture. in effect today from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for minor pockets of coastal flooding. morrissey boulevard, one of the spots that may see the low- lying areas with an increasing wind off the ocean so all the way from the coastline of the north shore stretching back. there will be additional minor flooding as we heed in never night tonight. 43 in boston right now. mid-30s lawrence. there is a little bit of frost scattered out. it's not as cold as it has been. some of the suburbs in the 30s will have to encounter a little bit of that. clouds may thicken up, but we may get sunshine early this morning. before that happens, the rain approaching eastern new york now. here's the hour by hour

the northbound side of the expressway, very heavy volumes but no breakdowns. 128 southbound is bumper to bumper in the braintree stretch between 37 and the split. it's 5:33 right now. following breaking news this morning. dozens of people forced from their homes by a massive fire in lynn. the flames broke out at this building on chestnut street around 11:00 last night. there is a fried chicken restaurant on the first floor and apartments on the second and third floors. another top story we're following for you. a car hits a 5-year-old boy as he's getting off the school bus. now the bus driver is off the job. the little boy should never have been allowed off that school bus. good samaritans helped him. the school says he is expected to recover. critics are pushing a

handful of bills to reduce the state's reliance on exams as graduation requirements. one bill would bar schools from denying students who pass everything but the tests. the gop is holding another presidential debate. this morning, jon keller looks at what donald trump needs to do to prove he is a serious candidate for the white house. >> reporter: good morning. tonight in colorado, the republican candidates for president meet for yet another debate. i hope they'll join me at 11:00 for highlights and analysis. here's one question i have about the debate. does donald trump have a second act? no doubt he's done well with the first one.

someone. trump seems has to have gone as far as he can go with the don rickles comedy act. women are bailing on him. even the ratings-starved cable networks no longer carry all of his speeches live. it's tile for trump to proves' more than just a clever self- marketer. we're on the verge of putting troops on the ground. how exactly would a president trump that battle and know just saying they'll do what i say because i'll get along with them is not a satisfactory answer. also, we have a national opioid abuse epidemic to deal with. what's his specific plan? some of them have clear records and detailed ideas. while trump runs on a cult of personality.

federal officials are raising concerns about tire safety. >> good morning, jill. kathryn. wall green's is buying its drugstore rival rite aid for about $9.5 billion in cash. the deal would create a drugstore giant worldwide. for now, rite aid will keep their name. the system for tire recalls is broken. only one in five recalled tires are removed from the road. there's the little opening bell test that we just heard. about 500 people are killed in tire-related accidents each year. this halloween, there is a

a raging fire tears through a building in lynn overnight. >> nicole, good morning. >> good morning to you, kathryn. a bit of new information for you right now. according to the american red cross, many of the residents we're told there are several elderly residents involved in the fire. take a look here over my shoulder. you can see the blown out windows with the fire crews from overnight. the scene video is certainly impactful flames. crews arrived and everyone made it out. that was a bit of a challenge simply because the fire happened around the time everyone was in bed or heading to bed.

ongoing as well as dozens are now displaced. >> this wednesday morning, residents in new hampshire are rallying around the family of a -- around the family of a little boy who suddenly died. he and his dad were delivering cookies. christopher suddenly tripped and fell. the boy died. a relative set up a go fund me page. so far, they've raised more than $21,000. >> good morning,ite susie steimle where a bus driver has been suspended for letting ai 5-year-old off at the bus stop all alone. after being left alone, the boy was hit by a car. he was sent to the hospital with a minor head injury. you'll hear from the people who stopped coming up at 6:00 and

we'll tell you what the school had to say about the accident. susie steimle, wbz this morning. the department of justice is looking into a south carolina sheriff's deputy who pulled a student from her desk monday. deputy ben fields is shown on cell known video removing the high schoolgirl from class. the school district says they were horrified by the scene. fields' bus says there is an internal -- fields' boss says there is an internal investigation. they will focus primarily on whether the deputy used his training properly. coming up in a few minutes, when the sheriff says he expects to make a decision on the deputy's future. congress is expected to vote today on a budget prom mize to prevent a government shutdown. john baner is pushing republicans to approve the bipartisan deal. it would raise spending for defense and domestic programs. it would cult social security and medicare.

tonight a movie about the cher say sex abuse scandal will be screened here in boston. the film's stars and journalists who inspired it walked the red cart in new york. the investigative journalists uncovered abuse by catholic priests. >> it takes a village for crimes like this to purr sift and even thrive. thank goodness for strong investigative journalism because that is one institution we have that can hopefully safeguard against events like this happening again. so buy your local newspaper. >> michael keaton, mark rough low and rachel mcadams and more star in the film. according to "the globe," several survivors expected to survive the screening at coolidge corner. enrollment at the state's higher ed institutions is down on average.
