new at noon, a high school football star stabbed after winning a play-off game. what we're learning about the violence and the investigation today. >> and vandals strike the hateful crime at a local mosque. >> and a warm week ahead. sixtys and 70s and who will be cooler the middle part of the week. dangerous discovery and this is no treat. the metal objects found inside a piece of candy. . right now at noon, a type, a high school football star, recovering at the hospital after being stabbed.

the attack came hours after he scored the team's winning touchdown. i'm christian mckinnon. >> i'm catherine. the stabbing is under investigation and no arrests have been made. and use issy is live for -- and susy is live with more from this. good afternoon. >> reporter: i can start with a little bit of good news. we confirmed flew the hospital that -- through the hospital that he has been updated from critical to fair condition and football player stabbed over the weekend, as it begins to circulate around school, it's making a strange start tod week for students -- to the week for students. >> reporter: on their way to school, students expressed concern for 16-year-old marvin. the star football player who was stabbed over the weekend. >> very well-known kid. i want to wish him luck and he he gets better with. that. >> reporter: he came off of a

fresh saturday night and went out to celebrate with teammates. on the way home, he heard someone yelling for help and stepped in to see what he could do and that is when he was stabbed in the hand and back. >> and he was selfless. steams that is not the greatest thing to do. >> reporter: they hoping for a speedy recovery and hope something like -- upset that something like this happened close to home. >> i think it's shocking. it was during the summer, there was another shooting and i am shocked this is all happening in our city. >> reporter: marvin's family anticipate a full recovery. this is a very active, open, ongoing investigation, as far as the police are going. >> thank you very much for the update, susie. president obama has just signed a two-year budget deal. congress approved the plan at the end of last week and it

raises the debt ceiling until march 17th, meaning the government can keep borrowing money and increases defense spending. a somber scene as a teen is remembered by friends and family during a candlelight vigil. hundreds of people filled the streets in a procreation through the neighborhood where manny lampson lived. the 17-year-old died when the car she was driving hit a tree night. her field hockey coach said she was special. >> and one of the most remarkable women i have coached. we lost her so young and my team is devastated. >> reporter: franklin police and the d.a.'s office are investigating the cause of the deadly crash. a funeral for mattie will be held on thursday. police are looking for the bold vandals caught on security camera defacing a mosque. this is not the first time the mosque has been targeted.

new view to the islamim center of burlington, more than 24 hours later, the markings of vandalism still present. >> and a -- [ indiscernible ] >> reporter: disgusting, said lexington resident allen murphy who drove the distance to offer her support. >> we're all one. this is america and everyone should be free to pray anywhere without being, you know, vandalized or threatened. >> reporter: it was sunday in the early morning hours. security cameras rolling and capturing this. a white crown victoria, vandals emerging mile -- emerging while this member is inside. >> and hard to go and -- [ indiscernible ] >> reporter: left behind were these thee letters, usa in bright red spray paint with the residue of eggs thrown at the building. >> they were not afraid of being caught in the cameras and stuff like this. and this is concerning now that they are stepping up their acts. >> reporter: wbz learned this

vandals have left their mark. in 2013, similar graffiti conjuring up similar emotions. the founder and leader of the mosque said that the crime goes against the founding principals of -- principles of america. >> someone doesn't know what the usa is about or what is founding members did for us. >> reporter: still a lot of cleanup to do here. we're told the mosque is currently take names for those who would like to help with the cleanup process. the investigation is ongoing as well and burlington police would like to hear from anyone with information. nicole jacobs, wbz news. is turning our attention to the weather now. a warm start to the month of november. you need to do it. we turn the clocks back and the chilly temperatures are gone. a live look at the city of boston now. the sun is shining and it's so nice outside. i can't stress that enough. did you see that?

it's gorgeous and the good news keeps on going. >> and if you like this type of weather, this week is for you. 63 degrees in boston and feels warmer, though, doesn't it? i think we're used to temperatures being chilly the month of november and feels nice out there and that air is nice and dry, the wind out of the west, light and 5 miles per hour now and nashua and lawrenceville at 62, 63 and upper 50s in worcester. the average high temperature is generally in the mid-50s for this time of year and we have had a few higher is rouse clouds coming by and they thicker to the south and that is on the leading edge of rain to the south that will stay there. we don't have to worry about that and through the rest of the day today, quiet conditions and including for your evening commute home and sunset, earlier, don't forget, with the clocks turning back and 46 downtown. upper 30s in the coolest

day tomorrow and milder, too, mostly sunny, a light wind and pleasant temperatures running in the upper 60s and we have some cooler air and not everybody, though and we'll talk about that in a few minutes. >> thank you very much. and developing right now at noon, a mystery surrounding a russian plane crash. investigators are on the scene trying to figure out what brought the airliner down over egypt. the black box was recovered, which crews hope will reveal clues. he's more from london and tina krause. >> reporter: u.s. intelligent courses tell cbs news the russian jetliner was likely not shot down in egypt. while some sources are not ruling out a possible bomb on board, the u.s. director of national intelligence said there is no proof that terrorists are to blame. >> we don't have any direct evidence of any terrorist involvement yet. >> reporter: russian airline officials contradicted the egyptian reports that the pilot

requested to land at the nearest airport because of technical issues. metro jet boxes said there was no mechanical trouble or pilot error and insist some kind of catastrophic event caused the plane to dive into the egyptian on board. relatives broke down as the first bodies were brought back to saint petersburg on monday. passengers sent these vacation photos before boarding -- boarding the plane from the resort town of sharm el-sheik saturday. and it broke 23 minutes into the flight. investigators hope the black box flight data recorders hole the clues they need to soft the worst air disasters in -- solve the worst air disasters in russian history. >> and we learning more about the release of thousands of non- violent drug offenders from federal prison and authorities tell wbz that 75 prisoners are eligible for the program out of the 6,000 eligible for early

release nationwide. this is part of a national program to reduce the federal prison population, which grew to more than 200,000 inmates. >> turning to campaign 2016, republicans want to take control of the upcoming debate. representatives from more than a dozen presidential campaigns met behind closed doors last night. and they agreed to mandatory opening and closing statements. and an equal number of questions. the change comes after many complained about the moderators of last week's debate on cnbc. and today, former u.s. senator fred thompson is being remembered. he died over the weekend in nashville, following a recurrence of lymphoma. he had a storied career serving eight years as the tennessee senator and running for president in 2007. he was known for his roles in law and order and the hunt for red october. he was 73 years old.

the crews used ab marine to look at the ship. the ship sank in october, on hurricane joaquin. 33 crew members were on board. the mother of a sailor from maine said finding the ship brings mixed emotions. >> and i equate it to a tug of war between my head and heart. i think my head wants answers but my heart likes not having with hope. said. first time. i felt like i was losing michael all over again. >> michael holland was one of eight crew members with ties to new england. the ship won't be recovered, but if human remains are found, they will attempt to recover them. a colorado woman is recovering after being bitten by a shark on a florida beach. dramatic pictures when other beachgoers rushed to her rescue. she just got into the water on cocoa beach yesterday when the shark bit her in the calf. the woman had to get stitches and they had to get surgery,

and new at noon, we're enjoying some mild fall weather. the nbta is getting ready for the work this winter. >> the agency will install plows on the front of red and orange line passenger trains. the 20 stainless steel plows will allow them to remove snow while running trains. previously, the t had to use a special train to remove the stone and -- snow and this is round one. in january, another 20 plows will be delivered. >> and that goes to the point of enjoy the weather like it is outside. >> and that is beautiful. temperatures should be in the 50s, mid-50s this time of the year and we're going to be 65 to 70 this time of the week. and get up while you can. absolutely, it's going to be dry, too and we can use some rain, but, you know, the tables will turn, right? the warm first week of november here and there is one chance that i am watching. looks like late thursday evening and night, make it a round of showers coming in and into early on friday and that does not look like a

significant event and we have colors and a lot of southern new england here. if you do, you're raking in intervals and batches. the sun is shining, the warm temperatures and not a lot of wind either. 63 in boston now; 62 in nashville -- nashua; upper 60s, it's beautiful and the temperatures staying in the 60s the next few hours and from turning the clocks back, the sun sets early. once it does, we will gradually cool into the 50s and evening hours by 9:00 p.m. and 55 in boston with mainly clear skies across the region and there are clouds but that is south of the mask pike with the coast and they come with the rain to the south and into the carolinas, virginia and the gulf coast. had some thunderstorms and all of this is the staying to the south. the high pressure is building in for us. that low staying to the south and there is noy worries about precipitation for the ride home tonight.

eastern and northern maine tomorrow morning, a couple of rain and snow showers. tomorrow will be milder than today. the highs go 65 to 70 and shy of 70 degrees. we may hit it in a couple of communities. wednesday, we start with sunshine and we will get an onshore wind cool or wednesday. with that wind coming in off of the cooler temperatures. upper 50s in the coast. still not bad. sixtys inland and eventually some of the clouds working in. not until late on thursday. just enjoy a quiet stretch of weather. upper 30s overnight tonight and still in the coolest suburbs. 47 in boston and 42 -- even lower 50s down into nantucket overnight tonight and with the fall jacket for the morning hours. sunrise tomorrow coming up at 6:20 and in the low 40s, a bit of a chill to the air and you can get away with the short sleeves underneath. look at, that a beautiful tomorrow and the school.

17 of the people had eaten at chipotle the past few weeks and several people had to be hospitalized and one has died. on the healthwatch now, a new study raising questions about the safety of rear-facing car seats. a small test done by a pennsylvania company shows that during rear end collisions, infant head injuries jar more severe when the latch system is used opposed to the seatbelt. >> and researchers say the rear- facing car seats are the safest option out there and say they could be safer in rear end crashes. and open enrollment is underway for the state's health insurance connector. and stat officials are expecting a smooth rollout. you might remember people had problems signing up for coverage because of website glitches. most of the problems were fixed last year and people reported problems. the state hopes the third time is the charm. open enrollment is until the end of january. >> and a milestone for the

how students are learning real life applications on the water. that is coming up at 5:00 on wbz news. a historic day in space. >> the international space station celebrates 15 years of residency. it was this day in 2000 that's u.s. restaurant and two russian cosmonauts stepped into the space station to live and work. the group spent more than 4 months aboard the station and since then, more than 200 people stayed at the station countries. >> and i am always amazed what they're tweeting out. >> yeah. >> and the pictures? >> totally. >> hey, get outside today. >> if there is one thing -- . >> she said it. >> and that was that. i second that, seriously. the temperatures in the 60s all week long and plenty of sunshine. the light winds cooler at the coast on wednesday and our only threat for showers is thursday night and another surge of warm air. we're up with the 70s on friday and the classic fall weather. >> and nothing to complain about then. >> right.
