>> it will be beautiful. it's colder this morning so we're going to make quite a rebound this afternoon. it's 47 in boston right now. 37 in fitch. a lot of the suburbs are running in the 30s. portsmouth sitting in the upper 30s even down into the cape and islands as well. mostly sunny clouds and skies. grab the shades as you are heading out the door. touch of fog and the typical spots will burn off. 64 by lunchtime. gorgeous, beautiful light southwest wind today. we top out in the middle to upper 60s. a few spots touch 70. a quiet, mild evening, too. another great day tomorrow. air comes back. let's get you on the roads. traffic and weather together. we've got a couple of problem robi?

route 1 in saugus because of a work crew. bumper to bumper from where the tolls used to be to the city square tunnel, two lanes are taken. also 93 southbound stop and go in the woburn stretch, route 3 south crawls between 495 and 129. checking the southbound, worst ride includes the expressway. 128 southbound, you inch along between logan express and the split and 24 north boggs down between brockton and 128. >> a s.w.a.t. standoff in canton. >> this started with a stabbing early this morning. we now know the relationship between the stabber and the victim here. >> reporter: that's right. this incident happened overnight between two brothers. one of the brothers is in the hospital with nonlife-

puncture wound. the other brother still inside of 1495. we can't see what kind of emergency vehicle it is, but that is where the man has barricaded himself inside. police have been heard over the communicate with the man inside. they have not had any luck house. we're still waiting to see what this new vehicle is that's on the scene here and exactly what led up to the incident because at this point, police don't know. there is it a s.w.a.t. team here. we are also anticipating getting an update from the police chief within that e-mail that she just sent to us telling us this is the relationship between two brothers. she said she would also be

as soon as that happens, we will bring you another live update. breaking this morning, an active murder investigation under way in dorchester. the victim, we're told,a 21- year-old man. police say he was shot just after midnight. investigators have been on the scene looking for evidence all morning long. right now, police don't have a good suspect description. new this morning, the mbta approved the installation of new technology to improve safety on the rails. it's called positive train control. eight people were killed in philadelphia last may. the government has mandated that it's installed on all

it will cost the cash-strapped mbta $451,000. police are trying to figure out who's responsible for putting cleaning supplies into the trick or treat bags. good morning, nicole. chris. they are trying to determine if it was by chance a mistake that out. by this point, kids are well into the halloween candy bags. so that's why they are wanting morning. it seemed typical until this was discovered. it's actually a bathroom bowl cleaner that somehow made its way into the mix of treats. >> i can't imagine anyone playing that kind of joke or

>> reporter: a 6 and 14-year- old made this discovery. >> the reaction was we hoped it was a mistake. >> perhaps they were slipped into the bags of treats. >> definitely seems like something people will have to be more vigilant about, innocent mistake or not. >> reporter: it is important to note no child mistakenly ate the bowl cleaner, and so they were not injured or hurt in any way. again, police are urging parents to double check those candy bags to make sure there aren't any other bowl cleaners out there. live in hopkinton, nicole jacobs, wbz news this morning. and a scare this halloween. a parent checking a child's candy bag found a razor blade inside. the parent gave the blade over to police who are now investigating. and the murder investigation of a new hampshire woman.

den nights robert was shot and killed while out for a walk on a sunday evening last august. there was a $42,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest. a stray bullet rips through the walls of this woman's home. it just missed her head. she says her collection of scarves actually stopped the bullet. bree is here now with the brockton woman's close call. good morning, bree. >> reporter: good morning. this brockton mother tells us she kept her children home on halloween because she was concerned for their well being. she knows she lives in a tough neighborhood but thought in her house she would be safe. she was up watching television morning. she heard a shot and thought it hit a wall. she checked on her mother in okay. it wasn't until daylight revealed that the bullet revealed the second floor traveled through her mother's room and passed into her room.

away in a pile of scarves. >> i worked hard to have my own house, and now you can't even safe. if i was renting, i would be it's my own house. what am i going to do? i have to be here. >> reporter: police believe she was the unintended victim of a drive-by shooting. no arrests have been made. chris, back to you. >> scary story from. 6:08 right now. an officer with the suffolk county sheriff's department now charged with attacking teenagers in norton. the teens say jeffrey perrillo approached them and said he was a police officer. when they questioned him, he pulled one of the teens out of the carp and began hitting him. the officer was not wearing a uniform at the time. he's now facing a number of charges including assault and battery, disorderry conduct and carrying a firearm while under the influence. he's now on administrative

two teenagers are accused of vandalizing a mosque. the 18-year-olds with are in court yesterday. police say the pair was out drinking on halloween night when they spray painted usa on the burlington islaming center and threw eggs at the building. surveillance video led to their arrest. >> the video that's out there one of the officers was watching it and saw the car and saw something particular on the vehicle that raisedded his attention to it, and he thought it could be a vehicle he knew from town. >> reporter: a third person who stayed in the car is not facing charges as of now. an everett football star is in fair condition. he scored the game-winning touchdown saturday night. the everett school superintendent says he was walking with friends after a party when another group started throwing knives at them. he was attacked trying to help a friend get away.

we're in the 30s all the way back down to the cape as well as 52 on nantucket. look at this, 36 in falmouth this morning. a lot of it has to do with the winds that's calm. look at the hour by hour sun coming up officially in five minutes and look at that, across the board, sunshine today rerise through the 50s. so warming up quickly, topping out in the middle to upper 60s in the city of boston. a couple of showers to our north. we don't have to worry about we're coming through maine. we also have showers through coastline. the rest of the country is quiet with the exception of the west coast where we could see 1 to 2 feet of snow stretching back up to idaho. there are with wayneer storm watches and with high pressure building in today. tomorrow mostly sunny as well.

the immediate coast will be in the upper 50s. on thursday, we start with sunshine. it's thursday night into early on friday morning that a couple of showers will be possible. that's really our only threat for any wet weather as we head throughout the next several days. high people chores 65 to 70 this afternoon. if you liked yesterday, you will love it today. 68 will do it this afternoon. middle to upper0s. cape and islands as well. overnight tonight, not as chilly as this morning. some of ours dip into the lower 40s. upper 50s at the coast with an onshore wind. lower 60s across the interior. accuweather seven-day forecast, we keep the mild temperatures going through the end of the week. in fact, friday, we could approach record highs. a lot of them are in the low 70s. so it's going to be a close call.

decided the customer was too drunk and asked him to get out of the car. the customer is facing assault charges. the driver says he's done working for uber. a local uber driver is in trouble with the law. >> this grandmother is breaking the rules every time she gets behind the wheel of a car. she's been summoned to court because uber is not approved in the city. the company can't guarantee that it passes background checks. >> i'm drug tested. my fingerprints are registered hampshire. i don't want to be a grandmother in jail. >> uber vows to represent franz at her december court date. the company says it will pay

new car buyers will be getting more help in i'ding safer vehicles. automatic braking will be added to its five-star safety ratings beginning in 2018. it uses sensors to warn of an imminent collision and engages the brakes automatically if a driver fails to stop. ten companies have decided to make it standard but have not said when. the study found teenagers preferred music and television despite higher tech things like ipads. boys are more apt to play video games while girls are more likely to be reading or on facebook, twitter, or instagram. there are two new studies out about the impact of calorie counts on menus. researchers found that in new

york city, diners have not been making healthier choices because of the calorie counts. big apple have posted the numbers but researchers found that chain restaurants that voluntarily post calorie counts offer leaner choices. they are fewer than restaurants that do not post information. next year, all chain restaurants will be required to post calories. two protesters were held shar loll's stadium. the unfurled banner and gas facility. they dangled in front of a press box for a quarter of the game. get them down. straight ahead it is election day. >> one city council race is getting a lot of attention because of the big age candidates.

cities and towns will hold elections for local offices. there is a 70% chance or better that you don't know about it. if you do, you don't give a darn. i know, here we go again, another finger-wagging lecture on the importance of voting. i do find it pathetic a large majority of the population fails to exercise a basic right of citizenship, i can understand what people feel so alienated from federal or state guest that you don't bother. if you don't think it matters who your local city and town officials are, think again. it's harder to think of another part of your life that dole government doesn't touch than one that does. if you own property, they assess values and set the tax. do you generate waste that needs protected, need

jeb bush was a very strong governor, probably the strongest governor in the history of the state of florida. he was a young guy and i think there were some folks in the legislature that thought they might be able to run over him. that didn't happen. one tax cut wasn't enough- he had to do more. it wasn't enough to have 15,000 kids with school choice in florida, he wanted to have 100,000 kids. if he didn't like a project, it was going to be vetoed. it didn't matter if you it didn't matter if you were his best friend. he said: 'this is where we're going, this is how we're going to reform state government...' every politician comes in talking about making change, and generally there's not much change. but governor bush made a lot of changes. he got the nickname

susie steimle is live for us on the scene and has been updating us all morning long. you just spoke with the police chief. >> we did, kathryn. we have confirmed that the standoff between police and a man who has barricaded himself inside of a home in washington street is over. as you can see behind me, the streets have been opened up. this has been closed down since 2:00 in the morning. we're getting overnight video. one brother called police around 2:00 in the morning saying he had stab wounds. hospital with nonlife- threatening injuries. meanwhile, the other brother barricaded himself inside of the home. both brothers did live at this home. police say they don't know exactly what escalated the fight between the two, but eventually they were able to get inside of the house.

the brother who barricaded himself inside. they were unsuccessful. they finally got inside and transported him to the hospital. here's the police chief. >> we found one male with a puncture wound in his chest from a knife. the injuries right now are serious but not life- threatening. the other party barricaded himself inside the house. we were able to take one party into custody who was also injured and being transported to the hospital now. >> reporter: there also was a shelter in place order for neighbors in this area of washington street. that has since been lifted as withle. people are now allowed to travel in the area. the chief tells us potentially assault charges or potential attempted murder charges could be pending depending on how this investigation pans out. they are checking in with the suspect, who is currently in the hospital.

they don't anticipate an arraignment because he is in such tough condition at the hospital at this point in time. morning. now. a 21-year-old man was shot and killed just after mid nature. there have been no arrests. right now, police don't have a suspect description. now to a story you first saw right here on wbz. a teenager is suing the city of somerville for wrongly accusing him of rape. galileo mondol was charged with raping boys at a soccer camp, but in april, prosecutors dropped the charges. mondol tells wbz the past two years have been incredibly difficult and now he wants to clear his name. >> the victims said in this

police report that i did nothing to them. both co-defendants with no reason to defend me said they had no role in the -- said i had no role in the incident. >> reporter: the mayor's office disputes mondol's complaint and calls his lawsuit unfounded. 6:36 right now. toxic chemicals disguised as treats and handed out to kids on halloween. now police are trying to figure out who's responsible. they are urging all parents to check their kids' candy. good morning, nicole. >> reporter: good morning, to kathryn. we're several days removed from halloween. hopkinton police say this is the perfect opportunity for parents to go back to the halloween bags and check the candy because we want to make sure there aren't any other tablets out there floating around. we're talking bowl cleaner tablets. it can pass as a piece of candy.

sunrise came up just about a half hour ago. we go 68 degrees for the kid by the end of school. we have a couple of rain and snow showers in northbound maine right now. that's the warm front lifting across northern new england. showers out over the carolinas still from nevada to idaho where the weather advisories and warning in effect. for us, though, quiet weather f, the one exception tomorrow, at the coastline, the biggest difference a little cooler. so wind coming off of the ocean will keep us in the upper 50s. thursday, another mild day starting with sunshine. we end up with increasing clouds. i can't rule out an isolated shower, but it looks like any activity will come in overnight on thursday into early on friday morning. cold front back to the west

a fight between brothers broke out. one was stabbed in the chest and taken to the hospital. he is expected to survive. the other prompted an hours long standoff. he was arrested and taken to the hospital. to improve safety an the rails. it can automatically slow down a train to prevent this accident in philadelphia that killed eight people last may. the government has mandated that it be installed on all trains and tracks. installing the technology will cost the cash-stabbed mbta $450 million. an officer with the suffolk county sheriff's department has been charged with attacking teenagers in norton. jerry perillo is accused of
