i'm catherine hauser. >> i'm chris mckinnon. wednesday, november 4th. another nice day on the way. danielle's been warning about the cooler air coming. >> i feel like we've been spoiled. about 60s? >> no way. >> we hit 73 yesterday. summer shot? >> it does. >> this was taken yesterday with a wind surfer out there. just a beautiful scene across new england. yes, another fantastic one with temperatures running in the 60s, so a little bit cooler. right now, we're in the 50s at least at logan airport. temperatures, 54 degrees. the wind is actually calm in a lot of spots. where it has gone calm, we've really cooled off. we're actually in the lower 30s in norwood right now. orange and keene are sitting in the mid-30s.

a lot of the rest of this are in the 40s. the satellite radar is quiet. there's nothing going on here. we've got a dry day today with sunshine and a couple of clouds that will mix in. sunrise at 6:21. another beautiful lunch hour around 60 at the coast. we'll cool off with 50s. i'm tracking a couple of showers coming up. 4:32 right now. we're following a developing story. a fire at a home in lowell. the flames broke out at 11:45 last night at this home on baldwin street. it spread quickly. the home was vacant. no one was hurt. a pregnant woman seriously hurt in a crash has delivered a healthy baby boy undergoing an emergency c-section two months before her due date. the woman and her husband were

crash in manchester, new hampshire. >> you can see their car flips over. as julie loncich reports, the family is doing okay. >> reporter: when you see the video it's almost incomprehensible that the man and woman in the car that goes airborne survived. >> i'm still a little jittery. it was a crazy right over here not knowing anything at all. >> reporter: brittany's own father still can't believe it. >> watching that surveillance, it does look like he was chasing another car in a race and trying to catch him. >> i can't imagine racing on the streets. >> reporter: brittany and her husband dennis were on their way home when out of nowhere -- >> he said there was a car that pushed him off the road into a pole. he said it was like the car was coming at him faster. >> reporter: both were ejected. time was of the essence because

searching for a gunman. a man was shot in an apartment building on granite street. shots. no word on the condition. a danvers teen accused of raping and murdering his high school math teacher will have a hearing to determine whether he's competent to stand trial. the trial has been delayed several weeks. he is accused of killing colleen ritzer in 2013. chism was 14 at the time and being tried as an adult. three construction workers badly injured on the job. this morning, federal investigators are looking into what went wrong. the construction workers were crushed when the second floor wall of a new home collapsed in merrimac yesterday afternoon. all three were seriously injured, but they are expected to survive. new this morning, a rescue on the water in weymouth. we're told two people were in a boat that flipped last night sending them into the water off of four point road.

their conditions have not been released. right now, a big day for campaign 2016. in new england, it is the first day candidates can officially file paperwork to get on the ballot in new hampshire. donald trump is planning to make an appearance at the secretary of state's office. trump also says his campaign will begin running television ads pretty soon. massachusetts voters elected new leaders in more than 50 cities and towns last night. here's bree sison with the results. hi, bree. >> reporter: quite a shake-up in many municipal locations. boston's two longest city council members are out of jobs. yancy was first elected to city council with the late mayor menino 30 years ago. last night, he lost to attorney andrea joy campbell who relentlessly out-campaigned him. campbell received 61% of the

remember this guy jack lally in brockton? the 18-year-old pulled off a win for an open seat on the brockton city council. lally took almost 60% of the vote beating a candidate almost four decades his senior. sam sutter was knocked out. he just resigned his post as district attorney this past year to run for mayor. in ohio, voters there defeated a measure that would have legalized both recreational and medical marijuana. nearly two-thirds voted against it. today, police in illinois will announce that the death of one of their officers was, in fact, a suicide. you may remember the massive manhunt that followed the shooting death after the 52- year-old officer radioed in he was chasing three men on foot. after an extensive

investigation, it was concluded that gliniewicz died of a self- inflicted gunshot wound. accused of throwing rocks and bb gun at a group of homeless people. that's not the only reason police are concerned. lowell police tell us an officer spotted three boys at a railroad bridge throwing rocks at homeless people taking shelter underneath the bridge. one of the boys was also firing a bb gun. police say it looked almost identical to a real smith or wesson. >> it's unsafe for the officers but it's unsafe for the kid carrying it, too. if he pulls it out on the wrong person, you don't know what the reaction will be. >> the two accused of throwing rocks were 12. the people they were aiming at were treated for minor injuries. the da's office and dcf are investigating a baby girl's death in sandwich. she was found unresponsive at this home yesterday morning. paramedics couldn't revive her. the d.a.'s office says there

are no obvious signs of injury. a doctor told the family that the infant died of s.i.d.s., one of the family members tells us. a wake will be held for maddy lanson, the medway teen killed in a car crash. the 17-year-old was killed when the car she was driving in hit a tree in franklin. a scholarship fund has been set up in maddy's memory. a burlington mosque defaced by graffiti is holding an interfaith event today. two teens are charged with spray painting usa on three sides of the islamic center on halloween night. before painting over the grahe feet at the, the members will retag with more positive messages about islam and religious diversity. it is 4:39 right now. coming up on wbz this morning, it wasn't the adventure one paraglider was looking for. >> a malfunction in the air that led to one frightening fall.

testing positive for e. coli after eating a burrito there. the number of people sickened is growing with more than three dozen confirmed cases in oregon and washington state. health officials now believe tainted produce is to blame. a new gmail feature will reply to e-mails for you. google has created a smart replay that uses artificial intelligence to analyze an e- mail and suggest a few brief responses. the idea is that you can quickly respond without having to manually type a message on your smartphone. that feature should be available later this week. changes at twitter. hearts are in and stars are out. twitter has replaced its star- shaped favorite icon with a heart shaped icon called "like." twitter says you might "like" a lot of things put not everything can be your favorite. twitter has tried to become less complicated to attract new

up in the 30s. jaffrey's sitting at 35. 39 in bedford right now. in order wood at the airport here. 33 degrees, one of the typically cooler spots right around 50 from marshfield to plymouth and 50s on the cape skies are clear. there's nothing going on here in the satellite and radar. there are rain and snow showers back here st. james bay. continues. the biggest difference today is that wind churns in off the ocean. so little sea breezes kick in at the coastline. that will keep us a few degrees cooler than everybody else today. a few coastal clouds may develop, too. tomorrow, another nice one. we will see an increase in clouds. it should be a dry day overall. there's just a slight risk of a shower along the south coast as we head into tomorrow evening. temperatures will still be coming into the 60s and lower 70s. thursday night into friday, there's still a surge of warm air coming in.

i don't think it will be a big deal for your commute. then the sun breaks out and we approach record high temperatures on friday afternoon. the records are lower than they've been the past couple of days. so 73 is the record in boston. 70 in worcester. late in the day towards the evening, here comes the cold front. a passive shower. an active breeze, though. behind this front, cooler air comes in as we head into the upcoming weekend. keep in mind, our average high temperature should be in the mid-50s. mid-60s across the interior just west of boston. 65 in bedford this afternoon. lower 60s from the south shore back down to the cape and around 60 in the city of boston. overnight tonight, not too cool. we'll see partly cloudy skies and low temperatures. widespread 40s in the suburbs. a couple of spots may dip back down to right around 40 degrees. look at the highs tomorrow. 72 in norwood, 70 in lawrence.

there was a s.w.a.t. standoff for hours. they found him suffering from a inflicted stab wound. a south shore town is victimized by hackers who managed to steal tens of thousands of dollars from bank accounts. they noticed the account was shorted $30,000. the town got all of the money back but the question remains, who got access to that account? >> where so much of this is done electronically now, money transfers, and that's how we operate in this day and age. lots of that is approved to pay bills, and i think that this person was able to infiltrate that system. >> much cybercrime comes from overseas, police believe the hackers are local. right now, $70 million. that's how much the u.s. government is fining japanese air bag-maker takata.
