killed in this crash on 45. his mother admits she is in shock. >> i have it hard to believe that -- i find it hard to believe that he is gone, and especially how it happened. >> reporter: police say michael hinds was drunk and intentionally crashed into jared and his friend not once off exit 12. records show this isn't hinds' first oui. we went to hinds' home where a woman chased us off the property screaming and making threats. police were called in. >> the best i could say about the creature that caused the accident, who already has priors, he shouldn't have been driving. 1.9 at 10:00 in the morning. >> reporter: his mom and dad now just want justice for their son and a tough sentence. >> i just hope like crazy that

will give him the maximum amount of time. >> reporter: there was another man, a passenger in the car, who is at rhode island hospital with serious injuries. as for hinds, he appeared at now. he'll face a judge later today. also this morning, a stabbing suspect is on the run after jumping from a third floor window in roslindale. police say a tip led them to a night. they believe the man was hiding with relatives in an apartment with two women and four children. at some point, the man jumped from the window and got away. police say nobody was hurt. a fugitive convicted for his role in the murder of a boston police officer is caught in boston this morning. he's headed to court. 36-year-old kevin paul is convicted as an accomplice for a murder in 1997. police say he was released

earlier this year and violated parole. they suspect he is now part of a burglary ring that steals and trades guns. a pennsylvania mother who drove her infant son to boston for medical treatment triggering an amber alert is expected in court today. tiffany cherry took her son to a pennsylvania clinic last month. a nurse told her to take her son to the nearest emergency room, but cherry drove to boston children's hospital for treatment. her lawyer says the amber alert was overblown. now a judge will decide if she gets her children back. two iowa men accused of wanting to cause a mass casualty attack in boston in august are also due in court. police say 18-year-old kevin norton and 27-year-old james stumbo posted online that they planned to bring guns to the convention as part of the mayhem pokemon crew.

a grave crime days before veterans day. veterans headstones toppled and urns smashed. hi, bree. >> reporter: good morning, chris. a member of the board of the pleasant hill cemetery says they've been hit before holidays before including memorial day, fourth of july and veterans day. west bridgewater police believe the vandals are likely kids, but that doesn't bring comfort to family members like jane who often visited her grandparents who died in the '60s and her father who died three years ago. now she says it's tough to go visit. >> it's terrible. i don't understand. i think they have entirely too much time on their hands. they have no respect whatsoever. >> reporter: no arrests have been made at this point. this is the fourth time the cemetery has been vandalized in three years. not all of the graves affected

were veterans. nonetheless, the cemetery is considering removing flags in hopes of removing the target. kathryn, back to you. now to campaign 2016. the top eight republican candidates will take the main stage tonight in milwaukee for the fourth gop presidential debate. it comes as new poll numbers show ben carson and donald trump are still ahead of the pack. trump and carson are shown as neck and neck in the key early voting state of south carolina. 28% of likely gop primary voters said they would back ben carson. 27% said they would support trump. senator marco rubio came in third. as for the democrats, hillary clinton made it official in new hampshire filing paperwork to be on the granite state's primary ballot. she also hosted a town hall meeting in windham. a new push to make school buses safer. our nicole jacobs is live in roxbury with a closer look at

the plan. good morning, nicole. >> reporter: good morning to you, chris. in just a few hours, thousands of students will load up on school buses heading to school and certainly they'll do it with this abate once again at the forefront. whether or not there should be seat belts on school buses. there are statistics according to the national highway traffic administration, four children die every year in school bus crashes. the thought is that adding seat belts to the bus could cut that number in half. right now, there are only six states that require seat belts on school buses. massachusetts, of course, is not in that number, but experts say implementing seat belts is something that could possibly take a decade. so they're certainly hoping to drum up support and get the interest in line so that not only school districts but

take a look at this possibility. we're live in dorchester this morning, nicole jacobs, wbz news this morningp. a university's president resigns after widespread protests and a walkout by the football team. dozens of players refused to take the field until president tim wolfe quit or was fired for his handling of racial incidents. the players had the backing of their head coach, too. a chancellor will also step down at the end of the year. yale students crowding the streets of new haven, connecticut, demanding the ivy league university find a way to address racial inequality. the protest comes after a woman claims she was turned away from a frat party because she's black. the fraternity denies that happened. coming up on wbz this morning, new advice for parents when it comes to booster seats. >> the new rating's out this morning and what you should

. >> welcome back. it is 4:42 right now. a warning to comcast customersp. >> plus, impacting service today. jill wagner joins us live from the new york stock exchange for today's money watch, good morning, jill. >> reporter: good morning, chris and kathryn. fast food workers in about 300 cities are planning to walk off the job at 6:00 a.m. this morning as part of their fight for $15 an hour pay and also a hope to influence the 2016 elections. today's demonstrations are expected to be the biggest yet. the labor group launched the campaign about three years ago. comcast is telling 200,000 customers to change their passwords. a list of 590,000 e-mail accounts including user names and passwords was being shopped on the so-called dark web. comcast says most of it is inaccurate and outdated and

that there is no breach of its own data system. bill nigh the science guy has teamed up with men's wear designer nick graham and a line of bow ties. nye has 400 bow ties himself. he says how he dresses science as he transmits information about ourselves, will cost about $50 with 10% of the proceeds going towards his nonprofit. chris, kathryn? >> so if you didn't know this jill, chris has a vast collection of bow ties as well. >> reporter: i did not know that. >> yeah. that was a birthday gift this year, wasn't it? >> i got you bow ties for your birthday. >> thank you very much. i haven't worn it yet. >> i'm still pushing for bow tie friday around here. >> you've been pushing for a few months. >> chris, will you take a picture and throw it on twitter for me?

i want to see one of your bow ties? >> i absolutely will. i'll do a repost. >> jill, we'll see new about an hour. thank you very much. from jill and the economy to the weather. >> the weather, yes. >> it seems like it will be hit or miss for some of us out there today. >> reporter: yes. so a lot of the day, you guys, will be dry for many of us. the heaviest rain is going to come in late this evening, overnight tonight and tomorrow morning. so if i had to pick a worst commute for the next 24 hours, it would be tomorrow morning's commute. most of us would see a half inch to an inch of rain. there's everything with this storm, though. the wind that will be gusty at the coast tonight into tomorrow. strongest on the cape and islands. that's where we my see gusts isolated. again, overnight tonight and tomorrow. the coastline, the good news here is there's low astronomical tide. with that onshore wind, there may be just a touch of minor

splashover as we heed into the late morning -- we head into the late morning high tide. temperature 47 degrees in boston, the dew point's in the 30s and the wind is out of the southwest 8 miles per hour right now. that wind will shift around and blow in off the ocean by later on today. it's coolest north and west as well. that's where we have 20s and 30s on the map. 32 in nashua. 40s for a lot of us as you are stepping out this morning. the clouds are advancing in, but they are high, thin ones at first. you zoom out the view and the rain is not too far away. notice the northern fringe has only been making slow northward progress and is losing a bit of steam. a lot of this will pass out over the ocean. then we're going to get rain that fills in overnight tonight. so hour by hour through the afternoon, anticipate some rain filling in along the south coast, cape and the islands early to mid-afternoon. the farther north you go, we may still be able to see

sunshine through the day today. some scattered showers arrive through the tail end of the evening commute, but it's late this evening and overnight tonight, particularly after midnight that rain fills in, falls heavily at times. look at tomorrow morning's map. that's going to be a different story. areas of rain, downpours pouring in that will continue through veterans day right through the afternoon. i think the intensity of the rain will taper off tomorrow but it will be a chilly, raw feel for our wednesday with the rain wrapping up during the evening hours in eastern massachusetts. how much rain will fall? again, generally half an inch to an inch and a half in blue. easter massachusetts may see a few amounts to top out here particularly at the coastline. the wind, too will be strong. wind advisory all the way from eastern essex county, the south shore back down to the cape. again, 1:00 a.m. tonight through the day tomorrow. gusts 40 to 50 miles per hour may result in a couple of isolated outages or pockets of limb branches coming down.

on thursday, we see cloudy skies to start and then scattered showers develop. some rain moving in. friday, back up to around 60, though, and the weekend is mostly dry weather. a little cooler, though, highs in the 50s as we head through the start for next week. back to you. new this morning, child booster seats are getting safer. >> that's according to a new report from the insurance institute for highway safety. here's bree with a closer look at which seats are getting good marks and which ones parents might want to avoid. >> reporter: all of the new seats this year are in good shape with the insurance institute for highway safety, but the group still recommends that parents do their homework before making a purchase because major retailers continue to sell ones that are not endorsed. many are deemed a best bet for the insurance institute for highway safety. >> in this year's booster ratings, there aren't any seats

>> reporter: they tested both high back and backless seats, americaning how the seat belts about any vehicle. >> what we're looking for is that the lap belts fit low across the top of the sides and the shoulder belt needs to sit shoulder. the neck or face. notice. the iihs is calling on manufacturers of six older models that are not recommended to stop making them. if you have one, don't throw it out. just get a new one as soon as possible. the iihs says crash tests prove any booster seat is better than no seat at all. the insurance institute for highway safety says the best seats are not necessarily the most expensive. the group says there is one 2015 best bet seat that retails for only $15. kathryn, if only all child safety seats were that cheap. >> i was paying attention to that entire report.

boston is it one of the fist cities in the country to test -- first cities in the country to test out a new feature on the uber app. drivers can share with loved ones the uber driver's name and the feature is rolling out nationwide in the coming weeks. a new way for out-of- towners to fight boston tickets. the parking office is using skype. people who don't live in massachusetts can log in and video chat with representatives from the city's parking office. they are asked to send in evidence they would have that would help their case ahead of time. all five cases appealed via skype so far were dismissed. this is the topic of our "daily talker." we're asking you, do you think the program should be expanded to include people who live in the state of massachusetts? you can comment at cbsboston.com.

. >> welcome back. it is 4:53 right now. checking our top stories on this tuesday morning. a norton man charged in a deadly road rage incident is due in court. 37-year-old jarad aaron died when 67-year-old michael hinds intentionally hit his pickup truck on 495 in mansfield. the two vehicles collided twice. hinds was drunk. a passenger was also seriously hurt in the crash. a stabbing suspect on the run. police say he jumped from a third floor window. investigators believe the man was hiding at a relative's apartment with the two women and four children inside. at some point, the man jumped

from the window and got away. police say this was not a was hurt. a lynn man charged with killing his live-in boyfriend. police forced their way into the apartment sunday night where they found donna cuchinota dead and he was watching football in a back bedroom and drinking a beer. neighbors heard them arguing for three hours that night but it happend so frequently, people didn't think much of it. >> reporter: women should fight to keep the man in jail because when they come out, they really come out to get you. >> reporter: he had been arrested seven times since 2012 for abusing the victim. youth soccer could be getting new rules. the u.s. soccer federation recommends a ban on kids under 10 head butting a soccer ball. they also want limits for

and kids with suspected concussions playing in games is under review. the "boston globe" reports a pilot program will start in january that's similar to a system already in place in new york city. restaurants will get either an a, b, or c for the first year grade and it will only be online. after that, they will be posted in restaurant windows. mom, wife, and supermodel. giselle sits down with charlie rose.
