the theme is the rain continues to spread across the region overnight tonight. we will get our steadiest rainfall from midnight into the first half of the day tomorrow. commute time plus bus stop time it is going to be wet and windy. we definitely want the rain boots and umbrella. coming up tomorrow afternoon we start to taper off back to showers and drizzle toward the seacoast. we do stay socked in and the wind is going to be with us all day long especially toward the coast. tomorrow morning is the main impact here. and things will be drying out evening. on the wind side of things strongest gusts right along the coast in particular cape cod and the island. a couple of them could reach 40 miles per hour. some of those could reach

and both quincy and wamoth have already cancelled parade. join our morning team to get the very latest on the storms tomorrow at 4:30. we have breaking news right now. protesters rallying outside of the state house. demonstrators marching throughout the city tonight. they're demanding higher wages this group rallied before marching through the streets of the state house. in the last half hour or so the rally has started to break up. there's also some breaking news tonight out of ohio where a small jet has crashed into a home in akron. we know now that at least two people have been killed but we also know there were nine people on the plane and no sur -- sur -- survivors have been found. answering to a deadly case of road rage. a man who was arrested for

drunk driving before is now life. he was engaged to be married and a father of three but now he's gone leaving behind a grieving and furious family. courthouse. >> reporter: something like this just makes you shake your head. here you have a guy with two prior convictions for dui, now police say they got him on a third one. this time he was driving drunk. he blew a 1.9 and this time, according to police, he killed a father of three. >> some guy and this man has stories about family. he's really, really hurt my family. >> reporter: santo's fiance died in this crash yesterday. jared oroni took his last breath here on the onramp on i40. and police say this is the man responsible. 57-year-old mike hines. a guy with two previous ouis

and police say yesterday morning he was driving drunk again when he ran oroni off the road. >> the best i can tell you about the creature that caused the accident and that's what he is a creature. he already has priors. he shouldn't have been driving. 1.9 at 10:00 in the morning. >> reporter: trisha santos and oroni had accomplished a good life together. his work as an electrician, steady. >> he made me laugh every day, i'm going miss that. and he was a wonderful father, fun. >> reporter: then yesterday morning about 11:00 police say mike hines was driving drunk and became enraged at oroni and forced him off the road killing the father of three. but there were witnesses who told police about the red truck that did it then sped away with a flat tire. police found hines struck in his highway and he was

allegedly drunk. >> there was obviously a tragic accident, yes. it's been, he has expressed, that would be an understatement. >> when he was arrested, hines made a couple of statements to police but this one stand out quote, i just smashed into someone. it's not like i killed anybody. reporting live from adelborough, shields. a woman and her baby were killed in a crash. crews have set up a new guardrail. the road itself is going to be widened by 5 feet on each side. a water park owner in new hampshire has chained himself to a water slide. he's trying to save the business that he spent years building. this is kevin dumont right here. giving the wave. and he says this is his last resort. the attorney general shut down the water slide at his park

water off of martha's vineyard. the company says that they would have the turbines farther out to see, that way they would create more wind power. and the new subway car designs are in but we may have a problem. >> they asked voters to pick for three different designs for lines. these are the designs that received the most votes but tonight they're investigating possible irregularities with the online vote. it seems, there were some strange voting patterns and a lot of votes came from one particular ip address. >> it's interesting when you look at the voting the green line especially, almost all the lines went to that one particular design. things didn't quite look right. we shall see what the next big chapter is in that story. making a smart choice when you're dining out. >> and a new way to know how clean that restaurant is and

and it's as easy as a, b or c. boston is going to start handing out grades for restaurant cleanliness. >> the city wants to adopt the program that's been used in new york and l.a. for years. >> chris coombs is owner. of a restaurant. he says letter grading would be a plus. the city of boston wants to issue all restaurants grades from a to c based on cleanliness. >> we've done our research to

indicate in other major cities this has been a strong boost. it's reduced the sanitary violations in restaurants as well. >> reporter: the first year the grades would be posted online but might eventually be displayed in restaurant windows some say grades can be deceptive. >> if you have a freezer that's working perfectly fine if there's not a thermometer next to it, that is a major violation. and you and i can agree that that does not mean the meal we're about to eat is unsafe. >> i think it's good to know that the restaurant you're about to eat is clean and high standard. >> reporter: on the other hand, some people have a different take. >> if you don't have an a grade, you don't have an a grade. does that mean the public isn't going to go there? it doesn't necessarily mean you don't serve good food. >> reporter: the new system could be in place by the first of the year.

in boston, jim smith, wbz news. >> i like the idea. >> i know. >> it's like you want to know right. >> i would prefer to know. >> although there are people who prefer not to know. they don't want to know how the sausage is made. >> we'll work out the kinks. if you're ready for it to feel like november you're about to feel it. >> i was shocked. you wac into your car and it says 50 degrees out. i thought we were in the 30s today. >> it felt like so. the sky felt a little bit like snow -- the gray sky felt a little bit like snow. today some changes a foot. the rain is moving in. 1-1/2 inches of rain in the area. the wind is the issue as the rain intensifies. winds really start to pick up strongest across the coastline in particular cape cod and nantucket. minor splash over but a very quick moving storm.

here is the set up. we have tropical kate, that will not factor in. we have one area of low pressure that's right at atlantic city new jersey and upper level low pressure that's off to the west. this is the one that helps to intensify this one and fill in the rain as we head through the overnight hour. that rain is starting to fill in. across the south coast and the cape. the heavier stuff mainly across cape cod. reaching its way toward bruster has been getting wet. lifting over toward ridge water and lighter rainfall here in western massachusetts. the trend tonight is for all this rain to continue to fill on in. temperatures are falling back into the 40s. it'll be a chilly night low to mid-40s. areas of rain and the wind starts to pick up. especially after midnight. so let's take a look at some of the time line here. as the rain continues to fill in. maybe keep the windows cracked.

tomorrow morning out the door. it'll be very wet and windy and it'll slow down the commute. no doubt about it. make sure you have the rain boot and umbrella. as you head into the afternoon we begin tapering down to showers especially in far eastern massachusetts and toward the seacoast. but we all say socked into the cloud cover and it'll be very chilly for our veteran's day. in terms of the wind. it'll be no problem having those american flags flying out there tomorrow. it's certainly going to be gusty enough. i'll have the strongest gusts near the shoreline and especially toward cape cod and the islands. that's where those gusts will be between 40 and 50 miles per hour. that could lead to isolated poweroutages and trees coming down inland. some strong gusts but not or issues. excuse me, i got one of those tickles in the throat. you know how that goes. i could use some water. cape cod and the islands 40 to 50-mile an hour gusts. the worse when this happens to you on air.
