46 in boston. same in norwood, upper 40s to islands. we're uniform because there are low clouds that are with us. the showers are advancing in through pennsylvania and western new york. so they will make eastward progress here and arrive as midday across western massachusetts. so through your morning commute, we're fine. patchy earns of fog may develop. this is the lunchtime hour. pockets of light rain and showers move in. temperatures will be either side of 50 degrees. these showers will linger through the afternoon and into your evening commute. temperatures rise gradually all the while still in the middle to upper 50s with leftover showers as we head through your evening commute and even a couple of downpours embedded in there as well. we'll talk more about that coming up and the weekend. first, traffic and weather together. good morning, robi. >> good morning, danielle. it's quiet out there right now.

the crash is up in danvers. that's exit 47. total traffic network tells me the left lane is blocked up there, but it's too early for any kind of development backup to be going on right now. too early for the traffic. we begin with breaking news this morning. a wrong way driver causing a crash that injured a state trooper. a witness called police to let them know someone was driving the wrong way on route 6 around 11:30 last night. two state troopers found that driver and used their cruisers to slow traffic to protect other cars on the road until the driver hit one of the cruisers. the officer inside went to the hospital. so did the driver of the wrong way truck. so far, no charges have been filed. a developing story from revere. police say an armed robbery in the parking lot of the fairfield inn started as a meet- up from craigslist. victim answered an ad for a pair of sneakers, but when he showed up at the meeting place,

one person has been arrested. police are still searching for another suspect. today, a judge will decide whether a pennsylvania mom accused of triggering an amber alert will debt her kids back. tiffany chair riff says her decision to bring her infant son from pennsylvania all the way to boston saved his life. he was in need of emergency medical care and cherry wanted him to get that at children's even though she passed dozens of hospitals on her drive from wilkes-barre. boston police say at least six people have been robbed as part of a so-called cat fishing scheme. scammers create fake profiles and urge potential suitors to meet them at home. then they are robbed at gunpoint. >> i wouldn't meet anyone i wasn't absolutely certain of who they were in a secluded area. >> while anyone you meet online

police say scammers often use a very attractive profile picture and they won't skype or use a web cam to chat. the profile might appear new or incomplete. we're getting a look at a drastic change to the td garden. susie, not everyone is happy about this. >> reporter: no, chris. as you know, this is a very busy area. we're on causeway street across from the td garden. a lot of people worry the construction project will only make it more congested. like it or not, this project will be under way shortly. we have the new pictures of what it might look like. these images reveal what the new boston garden is going to look like. the $950 million construction project cleared a major hurdle this week. groundwork is scheduled to start soon. >> we're excited. more entertainment.

gave these private developers some big tax breaks. susie steimle, wbz this morning. it is 5:05 right now. fan duel vowing to keep running in new york state despite the attorney general telling both fan duel and posten paced draft kings to cease operations immediately. now fan duel is telling customers to keep on playing. meanwhile, draftkings says it plans to challenge that decision. in massachusetts, attorney general maura healey says she does not plan to follow in new york's footsteps but will offer her recommendations about how to offer consumer protections by the end of the year. it is 5:06 on in november 12th. a long time wbz sports anchor is taking a golf course in newton to court saying they discriminate against people with disabilities.

bob lobel lives with an illness that makes him use this golf cart. this specialized chair spins, lifts him up and provides support while he swings. lobel claims it's lighter than a lawn mower and he's used it around new england at courses but not newton. >> if i got on another cart i can play, but you can't use that cart here. >> reporter: for two years, woodland golf course in newton banned lobel's cart saying it hurts the greens. lobel is willing to test that ban in court against the americans with disability act. >> if you are open to the public for any reason, you are open to the public for all reasons. everyone with disabilities, whatever that may be, or any other protected category, has the same right to be there and be accommodated. >> reporter: the club president issued a statement saying "the golf cart caused significant impressions and tears on the greens. damage to our greens represents an unreasonable burden to hundreds of members."

severe weather in southern iowa and the snow in parts of the rockies. there's a lot of energy with this thing, but it's losing steam as it approaches us. scattered showers do arrive west to east midday, last through the evening and clearing comes in tonight. tomorrow features sunshine to start then building clouds. there could be a sprinkle by the end of the day. worcester hills back to the berkshires. friday night into saturday, we get snow showers. otherwise saturday will be breezy but a lot of sunshine. sunday looking good, too. sunday afternoon. by 10:30 this morning, a couple of showers here. western central massachusetts, these advance in the midday and early afternoon. they are scattered in nature but do fill in just a little bit late afternoon into the start of your evening commute so you'll encounter wet roadways so you'll linger through the evening hours with downpours embedded in there, too. then clearing comes in after that.

firm is promoting a christmas buy-cott encouraging consumers to shop at businesses according to how sensitive they are to christian beliefs and traditions. one of the first targets of the buy-cott. starbucks, said to be disrespecting christmas by rolling out blank red cups for the season by contrast with dunkin' donuts which has the word joy on their season all cups. this is a little bit confusing because starbucks also offers a product called christmas cups while dd cups never mention the word christmas. both companies say they respect all faiths and traditions, as they should, and maybe that's the way out of this silly holiday grievance spiral we're stuck in. just showing respect for all, is that really so hard or has

woburn to boston stretch. watch out for a disabled struck just before 495. chris, bree? it is just about 5:32 right now. preaking news to tell you about. a state trooper injured while responding to reports of a wrong way driver. that crash happened in route 6 on barnstable village. >> let's get to nicole jacobs with the latest. nicole? >> reporter: bree, chris, i should tell you first and foremost, the driver of the vehicle and state trooper are going to be okay. that is the good news, but i want to show you this video scene. barnstable. the call came in around 11:30. reports of that wrong way driver. in an attempt to stop the driver and protect other motorists from the driver, state police positioned themselves to slow traffic behind them. happened.

cod hospital and was treated there and released. we're learning more about the driver of the pickup truck. we're told he is an elderly man who experienced some sort of medical condition, and that is what caused the crash. we're told he also was treated medical issue. it is unclear at this hour if he will face charges. of course, we'll continue to follow that and bring you more when we learn it. nicole jacobs, wbz this morning. >> thank you very much for the update. a big scare for passengers on one mbta bus when a man on board threatens people with a hatchet. it happened near columbia road and stoughton street. police say the man threatened passengers but didn't hurt anybody. the t says he'll face charges. he's now undergoing a mental health evaluation. the member of a decorated soldier is fighting to honor

andy nutt enlisted to fight in vietnam. he was wounded once, went back and came back paralyzed. he died at the age of 32 by suicidal overdose. for that, his name was never placed on the vietnam veterans memorial, a decision his family says was wrong. >> he loved his country. he got disabled and hurt and i think he deserves recognition and being on that wall. i do. >> so the family has written letters and made multiple phone calls over the years with no luck. they are hoping the defense department's new acknowledgement of post traumatic stress disorder means they will ultimately change their mind. a pop warner team is dedicating its season to a teammate who died too young. the fuel team in hyde park is undefeated put wish their cowboys captain junior was there to lead them on.

he was the victim of bullying but kept the pain inside. >> we probably could have done better and could do better now for people around us and people who respect directly connected to us. >> when they see any bullying, they nip it in the bud right away. it's gotten them closer and treating each other like brothers and sisters. >> some of the players had a chance to play for their high school football team but made the decision to play pop warner in honor of their friend. a taunton family dog is pack home after spending a cold night down a 25 foot well. the higgins family was worried sick when they couldn't find buddy. that's him you see him hoisting up. another dog led them to the well and buddy was at the bottom of it. the fire department came and used a harness to pull them out. >> when i heard them, he came running out. he started moving. he was in about a foot of water.

tornadoes. this is a powerful storm system that's stretching from texas to minnesota and brought severe weather to several parts of the country. >> it started with snow in parts of colorado and up to a foot of snow fell in some places. it's only november. weather yet. >> well, we've had a mild november so far. so hopefully that means -- >> that same storm is headed our way, but we're on the warmer side of it. so we are tracking another round of wet weather that moves in later on today with showers that are in the forecast. temperature's 46 in posten. most of us are running in the middle to upper 40s from northern have the have the back down to the south coast because in.

might look like when it is all finished. this is a massive development project that's set to get under way very soon boasting 500 apartments. more than 200 hotel rooms, movie theater, bowling alley, sports par, and shopping. idea. a lot of people living nearby say this will make an already congested area of posten much worse. at 6:00. for now we're live in boston, susie steimle, wbz this morning. police shoot and kill a gunman at a construction site in san francisco. investigators seay he was armed with two weapons in an elevator tower and taking aim at a nearby hospital. the hospital was put into lockdown. the gunman was wanted for a robbery at a nearby sporting goods store. there were no other injuries. crews battling a wildfire in california. the fast-moving flames scorched dozens of acres near seemny valley. fire crews say this fire is

burning in the same general area as the rustic fire back in august. that could help limit the damage. four little bears plucked from the wild and given a little love and a temporary home. >> the cubs were left orphaned in new hampshire when their mom was killed by hunters. so they were scooped up and sent to the bear whisperer. he is set to earn his ph.d in bear social behavior next month. >> i wish we could educate people easier. they are only in people's backyards because there's food there. >> caring for the bears is not cheap. about $1500 each. there's now a go fund me page set up to help. he hopes to release the cubs back into the wild this may or june. time now for our "daily talker." a breakthrough in medical science that could allow

future health right now. >> it's pretty interesting. doctors say they may be able to predict whether doctors can map want to know? >> reporter: some are calling this the book of life. a new genetic screening being done here in local hospitals. for the fist time ever, doctors at brig -- first time ever, doctors at brig emand women's are sequencing the genome. currently all new importants are screened with a blood test for dozens of medical conditions. with genomic sequencing, they can determine if a patient will have a positive or negative reaction to a particular medication and cancers. hospitals hope to enroll 500 new importants half healthy, half sick to find out what if any role the sequencing will
