the man. and tonight he's in the hospital. and the investigators are trying to figure out how this all happened. >> it was a really bad accident. >> reporter: a wild scene on the streets of lowell. a construction worker seriously hurt, thrown in the air after a chain-reaction crash. a 76-year-old woman was driving this mazda in traffic toward a construction site and suddenly there was chaos. >> a vehicle went to the left and passed all the cars in the line and was accelerating hard, just missed one of our detail officers and struck a bobcat and he was work in the road and spun it 270 270 degrees. there was a worker there and it launched him into the air 70 feet in the air. and another worker hurt his leg

>> a worker was pinned and thrown across the street into another car. >> reporter: what is going through your mind about that? >> it is awful. it makes you sick and sad. >> reporter: and the question is what went wrong? what led to the terrible crash. the police immediately began the investigation. the elderly driver was not hurt and her 84-year-old husband was banged up. but he'll be okay. the rmp will likely be declared and eminent threat losing her license during the investigation. >> she reportedly told money that her accelerate are -- told some people that her accelerate are got stuck. that. the police arrested this man charging him with attempted strangulation and the person is in critical condition.

new clues in the new hampshire cold case that has been under investigation now for three decades. four bodies discovered in 55- gallon drums. and now investigators are hoping that the technology may help them finally turn the corner in the case that they have not been able to identify the victims much less find the killers. >> it has been frustrating. but it is not a case worth giving up on. >> reporter: and with that, new hampshire's cold case team started working to on this case again 30 years old. it was november 1985 when a hunter at bare brook state park discovered the remains of a woman and a girl in a metal drum. a state trooper found that the skeletons of two younger girls a hundred yards away stuffed in the drum.

>> reporter: she showed off the latest computer images of a mother in her 20s and a mother and daughter beaten to death and another girl two or three and another girl not the woman's child. and they believe all were murdered at the same time in the early 1980s. and they will do testing on bones, teeth and hair shows something else. it shows that the three related victims lived in the northeast, probably new hampshire and the final girl was with them for the last few months. and now investigates hope that a media storm will spark someone's memory. eventually. >> reporter: just identifying the allentown four will be huge. but the police don't believe it

unlikely and knew answer is street flooding is possible. and then the steadiest and heaviest rain the first half of friday and the winds will get gusty out of the south. but i don't think we'll deal with any damaging wind. and we could use the rain. the rainfall deficit is over nine inches in boston and eight in worcester. we had the long, dry stretches with a storm mixed in every couple of months. friday morning will be the wettest and the slowest in the region. and the weather is controlled by the big ridge of low pressure and keeping us on the milder side. and this weekend, we'll get colder air near and that will lead us into thanksgiving week. saturday, we're looking at a mix of clouds and some sun goes down here and moonlight and the temperatures in the low 40s for the treat lighting spectacular that you can catch right here on wbz. and a good week at fenway park and we have a little football

arrives here in new england. we have breaking news first here at 6:00. fears of a new terror attack two stadiums in germany evacuated. authorities say they had, quote, concrete evidence that there was a risk of another attack. >> leah martin is here with the layest. >> reporter: the latest fears are in the city of hanover in germany right here. and the fears took place at two different stadiums. this is the soccer stadium here and that another stadium where there was a concert going on. and they had to evacuate both of them and the soccer stadium was the center of that worry. and the police chief told germany tv that they believe someone wanted to set off a bomb inside the stadium. and the interior minister said about the attack. and the match was going to be netherlands. but an hour and a half before it began, the match was abruptly canceled and fans were told to leave. no explosive have been found
