breaking news right now at 6:00. a massive police raid just north of paris. two suspected terrorists killed. seven others are now in custody. we have details on the operation that targeted the suspected mastermind of last week's attacks. >> a mid-air scare on a plane headed for boston. a woman arrested and charges morning. >> what a jolt. the earthquake that shook up some massachusetts communities. captions by: caption colorado, llc (800) 775-7838 e- mail: good morning. it is it 6:00 a.m. i'm kathryn hauserp. 18th. we're rolling right towards the thanksgiving holiday.

we've got rain on the way. let's get you open the roads. >> reporter: there are people peeking through the little hole that they carved on the frost on the windshield rather than doing the whole thing that chris does. we have a crash in randolph, 128 northbound right at route 24 slowing things down. also to the south, the expressway northbound jammed already between granite and columbia road. 23 northbound is unusually heavy for this time of day. bridge water to 128, haven't seen that in a while. to the north we go 93 southbound backed up after the earlier crash. route 3 southbound will bog down between 495 and treble cove road. chris, kathryn? we're following breaking news from paris. two suspected terrorists dead,

as a police raid an apartment near one of the places last week. the operation targeted the suspected mastermind of the attack. >> we're getting new details on that operation. let's get right over to bree sison, who's been following the developments for us all morning long. >> reporter: a government spokesperson says the operation north of paris is now over, but there's still a huge police presence in that area. police are escorting children and others to the area. some were evacuated, others told to stay indoors as heavily armed officers and soldiers moved through the streets. law enforcement officials say at least two suspects are dead. one of them a female suicide bomber who blew herself up with an explosive vest.

the tense scene comes as police began searching for a second after the carnage. authorities spotted that man in surveillance in a car with two other attackers who opened fire at customers at a bar. the brother at one suspected attacker is appealing for them to come forward. my advice to him is to turn himself in to the police, he said. so justice can shed light on what happened. french warplanes have dropped more bombs and russia has joined in. also breaking this morning, bomb threats divert two air france flights overnight. the first flight took off and passengers are evacuating the plane. at about the same time, a second flight took off just outside washington, d.c. that plane landed safely in halifax,

investigators searched and cleared both of the planes. the plane from salt lake city has taken off and is now heading to paris. breaking news in manchester, new hampshire. a fire at a three-story home has been knocked down. firefighters are searching for hot spots. flames broke out around 1:00 quickly spread. six people were in the home. >> witnesses say a woman tried to open the exit door mid- flight. nicole jacobs has more and insists that this is not terrorism. >> kathryn, they say the woman was drunk but it certainly caused quite a scare for many of those passengers, some of whom say they were quite impressed with the way the

flight crew handled the situation. the moments in the sky were tense. >> we were told to stay in our seats and a flight policeman came on board. >> reporter: an unruly passenger identified as 32-year- old camelia. >> she wasn't violent, wasn't screaming. it was more interesting seeing how well the crew reacted. >> reporter: she allegedly tried to open an exit door on the flight en route from london boston. >> first impression, i thought the woman was having a panic attack. they gave her three seats to lie down on. >> reporter: according to state police, she was drunk, and when the plane safely landed, she was taken into custody. in the eyes of some passengers, not without a fight. >> reporter: they had handcuffs and had to put handcuffs on her feet as well. strapped her into the seat and most of the trip she was

fighting them. >> reporter: she is expected to be arraigned today. we're live at logan. the state police barracks, nicole jacobs, wbz this morning. update this morning. metro west. night? people in communities near 495 say it sounded like an night. the u.s. geological survey says a 1.5 magnitude quake was centered near the town of holliston and medway. they got dozens of calls from neighbors. >> folks heard a lloyd noise and they received 50 phone calls in the police department dispatch center. the fire department was out training so the crews immediately responded and started checking areas.

his last season with the team. he had a great year this year this past season. had he 37 home runs -- he had 37 home runs, the most sips 2006. he might be as beloved for his work on the field as for it off the field. he's truly become a symbol for the city of boston and helped them through really tough times. >> right after the marathon bombing, obviously, his famous speech on the field, he had our back. >> this is our [ bleep ] city! >> reporter: he is salaried at $11 million for the upcoming 2016 season. he could make up to $15 million, though, depending on how many games he plays, which is a nice retirement package for him. we are expecting to hear that announcement at some point today. we're live in front of fenway park. susie steimle, wbz this morning. coming up, a murder trial on hold yet again.

clear skies and calm winds allowing for the radiational cooling allowing for frost to develop. we're in for a lot of sunshine today. we debt a good rebound. -- we get a good rebound. after being in the teens and 20s, it's up to 15 degrees. that's normal for this time of year. we won't be as cold overnight. the clouds will increase, temperatures in the mid-30s and 42 in boston. the highs tomorrow will be a little bit above where they will be today. low to mid-50s for most of us. upper 50s south and west of town. there are some changes on the way as well. we've got rain stretching from chicago back down to the gulf coast states and snow in parts of nebraska and kansas. this is the same know, by the way, that brought blizzard conditions to parts of colorado yesterday. we've got video where you could barely see. we had to shut down parts of the highway yesterday afternoon. the wind's whipping around in parts of colorado heading up to 15 inches of snow with that

blizzard condition. now the snow is flying again in kansas and nebraska. great news for ski country out on the west coast. this wet weather arrives for us by tomorrow. i do think it will be a mostly dry start in the morning. a couple of showers will be possible. that's not the main event. tomorrow, steadier rain advances in. notice by 3:00 p.m., boston metro west. i do think the south shore and cape will see a mostly dry day. the rain becomes more widespread and anticipate areas in the evening drive. the heaviest rain by far falls late in the evening and the rain is starting to push off shore and a little stubborn or linger longer on the south shore to cape cod as depicted there. some clearing does come in by the time it gets to friday. we'll be in the 50s in the morning and falling into the 40s late in the day. mostly sunny and high, thin ones move in.

be cooler in the 40s to start next week. traffic and weather together. robi? >> we've had several accidents including a couple on 93 north of the city. the latest crash is on 93 southbound up in wilmington just before 125. the accident is in the active breakdown lane. the heavy backup there is to route 110. we also had another up in haverhill. the two right lanes are blocked up there. then to the south, an accident in randolph. that's created a backup to route 28. also to the south, expressway jammed furnace brook to the road. route 3 north you are sluggish from hanover to the split. it's shaping up to be a lousy commute. this morning, the judge in phillip chism's murder trial will decide how to proceed. colleen ritzer's accused killer

refused to come out of his holding cell after a break. the judge putle trial on hold again to consult with a psychiatrist. earlier in the day, colleen ritzer's mother took the stand. peggy ritzer described her thoughts when her daughter did not return home from school. >> the only thing i could have thought could have happened was that maybe she had been in a car accident or something, but i knew since she lived at home and her i.d. called. some major changes coming with the state's department of children and families. governor charlie baker making his first significant update to the department, which has been under fire after the deaths of several children known to the agency. >> to deal with the kinds of circumstances and situations these folks deal with every single day and to have to do it without having a playbook, for lack of a better word, made available to them, that they

by the way, be held accountable to for so long in some respects is the most disappointing aspect of all at least for me. >> among the changes, social workers and care takers will face additional screenings. workers will be given a specific check list to apply to each case. a new hampshire driver accused of driving 100 miles per hour. that's not even the worst part. he had an 8-month-old in the car with him. the 29-year-old was clocked speeding at 107 miles per hour. he is charged with reckless driving and endangering the welfare of a child. >> just ahead, where police are going door-to-door to stay ahead of thieves. >> just ahead, legal problems

new this morning, really just into our newsroom, firefighters in natch with a, new hampshire crediting an 11- year-old with saving her family from carbon monday novel side poisoning. firefighters say the girl noticed an odor, and the people with her in the home weren't feeling well. she called her father then 911. firefighters said there were high levels of carbon monoxide in the home because of a faulty furnace. five people were take ton the hospital, but they are all expected to be okay. >> good, quick thinking on her part. >> new york is now suing draftkings and fan duel to shut them down immediately. the new york attorney general wants the fantasy sports site to stop taking bets in new york. the new york attorney general says the sites are forms of illegal gambling. a change in state testing. the state education commission choosing to combine parts of

it's been dubbed mcas 2.0. yesterday's vote called for students to start taking the test in 2017, but until then, high school students will be required to pass the mcas in order to graduate. right now, a holiday rip off to tell you about. police try to stay a step ahead of thieves. thieves >> reporter: 19 packages have been stolen from doorsteps in the past two weeks and the holidays aren't even here yet. so the first assignment for grand must recruits team up with veteran officers go door- to-door. they could have done this in a bulletin or web site alert but they opted for a little face-to- face walking the streets and meeting the people they protect. >> the social media is great at getting the message out, but there's nothing better than

the operation targeted the suspected mastermind of those attacks. >> we have new details on that very operation. let's get right over to bree sison. good morning, bree. >> good morning, chris and kathryn. police say the seven-hour standoff is now over. so there is ill a huge police presence. police were escorting children and others out of the area. at one point there were still lots of police officers and soldiersn that area. [gunfire ] >> reporter: there you hear some of the police activity near that apartment that is near a suburb north of paris. investigators think that's where the man who master minded the paris terror attacks was hiding. a french prosecutor says the woman blew herself up at her suicide vest duri the raid. seven people have been arrested, but police have not identified those people yet.

so it's unclear if they captured abdelhamid abaaoud or one of the other suspects wanted in the attacks. in turkey, authorities say they have milt annes posing aas refugees. reports say they claim to be tourists. in germany, a soccer stadium after a credible tip about a possible bomb threat. back here in the u.s., we're seeing greater security at events expected to draw large crowds. at the td garden, you will see extra police patrols, more metal detectors on hand. fans we spoke with last night tell us they are not worried. >> i feel safe in boston. >> even after the boston marathon, i wasn't all that worried about it. >> the city has always been a safe city.

people feel that way, despite some of the things that have happened over time, but that's how had he should look at them. >> simple things you can do. know where the nearest exits are and don't panic in a real case of emergency. a wild scene playing out in lowell. a car slams construction crews working on appelton street, leaving five people hurt. a worker was hit by a bobcat and sent flying 30 feet in the air. the car came within inches of hitting an officer working the detail. the elderly driver was okay, but police notified the rmv. later this morning, a polish woman will be in court accused of trying to open an exit door while on board a flight to logan airport. witnesses say 32-year-old camilla was agitated on the flight from heathrow to logan. some thought she might be having a panic attack. halfway through the flight, she

we anticipate he wail use his 40th birthday today to tell people that 2016 will likely be sox. he's done a lot for the team over the past 13 years that he's been with them including a season. 37 home runs, his 5 hundredth career home run and jon keller talked with mayor walsh about the impact he's had in the city. this was the symbol during the marathon bombings. he made the speech that got so many people riled up during a tough time and he helped the conversation ash racism here. >> -- around racism here. >> we've had a lot of different problems in our city and we've worn a lot of labels. big papi has shattered those labels. >> if he does retire it's in time to get his campaign for mayer in gear. what do you think of that?

world series, i'll vote for him. >> reporter: mayor walsh touching on what he has to say. if he has to leave us, hopefully there's even more reason to root for a world series win. he's salaried at $11 million and could make up to $15 million depending on how many games he plays. we expect to win that announcement today. susie steimle, wbz this morning. >> thank you very much money david ortiz has had a big impact on and off the field. you heard mayor walsh talking about it. jon keller takes a closer look. >> reporter: good morning. david ortiz is reportedly poised to announce he will retire from baseball at the end of next season. after the five-year waiting period, his induction into the hall of fame should be a no- brainer. he is indisputably the greatest clutch hitter in red sox history and arguably one of the best designated hitters ever. only the tineny brains of hall of fame hitters that don't

think a dh belongs there will keep him out of the hall. after big papi is inducted and the memory of all of his on- field exploits fade, another memory will linger of how ortiz became a symbol of how much boston has changed for the better. once upon a time, our city had a well-deserved record for being one of the racest cities. bill russell won 11 titles during the '50s and '60s but neither he nor his black celtics teammates were ever officially embraced here. the exempt inc.s didn't start selling outed garden later on until while players within the big stars and mostly black nba was gaining wider acceptance. the patriots had many great black players over the years but none truly got iconic status.

history. wal-mart wanted to open its doors at 1:00 a.m. but the city council said no. one counselor said letting shoppers through the door in the middle of the night just invites poor behavior and doesn't lead to anything positive for the city. counselors were miffed that wal- mart did not send a representative to the meeting to argue their point, but a company spokesman told "the globe" they applied for the early start to "better serve customers and be in line with what other retailers in the area are doing." the same 'em wal-mart within doctor salem wal-mart will open at 7:00 a.m. instead. let's see what folks are saying about the black friday controversy. john on our facebook says "way to go, salem, mass. this black friday thing is getting way out of hand." lots of exclamation point business john there. this from our web site, "what

skiers and snowboarders are always looking for great selfie opportunities. a silicon valley production company has a new way to get them. they partnered to create so- called drone zones. the drones hover 30 feet above the trail and swoop in to follow the skier as long their runs. still, most have bans in place on flying drones over the trails. i've seen some of the video, and it's pretty cool. >> it's good if you are a good skier. >> oh, my. >> i feel like you'd be a good skier. >> i'm okay. i'm okay.

we are in for bright sunshine. notice our temperatures do rebound through the 40s by the time we get to early afternoon. we'll top out around 50 today with sunshine, maybe a couple of evening clouds. 50 degrees and normal for this time of the year. tonight won't be nearly as cold. so we get an increase in clouds that comes in. 35 in some of the coldest suburbs. 4 it, though in boston. low to mid-50s for most of us. so an above average day, but the wet weather is going to move in. right now, it's well to our west, coming through indiana, back to tennessee. gulf coast. and there's still snow on the backside of it. what does it mean for us tomorrow? tomorrow.

that's the alert you see in the middle of the screen there. let's go to sky eye. the biggest problem is 128 southbound seeing a stop and go backup to the braintree split. a lot of frustrated drivers out there. chris, kathryn? it is 6:49 right now. an hours long standoff in france is now over. two people are dead. 7 more under arrest. >> the big question this morning, did they get the man who masterminded the paris attacks? police stormed a suburb just north of paris after getting a tip that the mastermind might be there. witnesses reported hearing gunfire and several explosions that you heard right there. one of those killed was a woman who detonated a suicide vest.
