we begin with the breaking news at noon. david ortiz retiring. he said next season is his last. good afternoon, i'm chris mckinnon. >> the major announcement coming on big poppy's 40th birthday. he posted a video online explaining the decision. >> i picked this day to announce after this, i am going to be done with my career and playing baseball. like i -- i will like people to remember me as together we just part of the family, you know, and that i was trying to do the best, not only in the field with everyone around him. i am very thankful for having fans like you guys who have supported me through my career. years. so, i have you guys behind me and it doesn't work that way. after this year, time sun.

>> and he has been with the red sox the past 13 seasons, helping them win three world series titles this year and he hit his 500th career home run. and breaking this noon, the french going on a hunt for terrorist. >> and security teams raided apartment not far from the stadium blast on friday. two people were killed including one with a suicide vest. jonathan vigliotti reports for us. >> reporter: heavy gunfire and explosions rocked a suburb. teams looking for the attacks. >> and i ard explosions and heard gunshots. ma'am, many of them. >> reporter: telephone surveillance and eyewitness accounts led police believe that abdelhamid abaaoud might be hiding in the building. they have not said if they caught the militant accused of

including a woman who blew herself up. residents were jolted awake. this man said he was screaming as -- his son was screaming as he hid under the bed. it has a large muslim of community and near the national soccer stadium, one of six sites targeted friday night. the french present hollande praised the bravery of the security forces and said that his nation is at war against terrorism. the french police have been -- 400 searches on sunday and seized dozens of weapons. mourners are crowding makeshift memorials to pay tribute to the victims. >> and there is a feeling that things are not quite the same and i think it's going to take time. >> reporter: the french government said that now all 129 people killed in friday's terror attack have been identified.

the first took off from l.a. and landed safely at salt lake city. the cell phone video shows passengers evacuating at the same time a second flight so -- and this is the second video. and took off from the artificial airport interest out of washington, d.c. and landed safely in halifax, 95a scotia. the flight diverted to salt lake city and on to paris. a passenger who caused a scare on a boston-bound flight is heading to court today. the witnesses said the woman went into panic in the middle up an emergency door. susie steimel is live with the the sky. susie. >> reporter: that's right, a lot of passengers frightened by yesterday's events and we're still waiting for her to appear in east boston district court. and -- the pollish interpreter to get things started. and this is the woman on the british airline flight from

and scared a lot of passengers mid-air when she tried to open an exit door. police tell us she was intoxicated when all of this happened. that she was thrashing about and that it took multiple flight attendants to get her back into the seat to calm down and that she fought to be released the entire flight back. when the plane landed safely, she was handcuffed and taken into custody where she was held overnight. we caught up with a couple of passengers who were on that flight. >> she was kicking and stretching out her arms and we had to tee her down and get handcuffs and actually put handcuffs on her feet as well. was fighting. fighting them. >> reporter: given this state of affairs in the weak of the terrorist attacks, things like this are taken seriously but there is no indication this is an act of terrorism. and she is facing charges of

and she should be arraigned shortly. susie steimel, wbz news. >> and police investigating a possible hit-and-run after someone found a body on the side of mechanic street at interstate 190 in lemonster. the crime scene investigators are on the scene right now. and an active investigation going on in diton where a body was to upped in a small gated community. and we have seen police interviewing neighbors there and we'll continue to follow both of the breaking news stories and updates as we get them into the newsroom. and we're getting a chilling look at the moments leading up to the murder of a beloved danvers math teacher. nicole jacobs is lee in salem with the latest from court. good afternoon, nicole. you, catherine. a compelling morning in court that started with phillip chisolm saying he didn't want to appear for his trial and

seeing the if of the time. let's look her -- that we're seeing here for the first time. this is video from inside danvers high school. we know chisolm is accused of following into the women's restroom and we see him following. we see him pace back and forth at the door of that restroom and going inside an emergency -- and emerging with the sweatshirt over his head and this comes after they agree the client is competent to stand trial and chisolm agrees to be present. light lessen. >> and you want to give up that right to be present and be here to confront, see the witnesses and the cross examination? you want to be present? you want to be present during the trial? >> reporter: i should point out

the jury was not present for that conversation with chisolm and the judge. the trial is moving forward and again seeing the video for the first time. i can also tell you the judge did tell him if at any point he felt he didn't want to be present for his own trial, if he could make the court aware. live in salem, nicole jacobs, wbz news. >> and thank you. switching to the weather, a clear and chilly day out there so far. a live look over the city of boston right now and it was very cold this morning but we're warming up after seeing that frost in the lawns and cars this morning. >> and i had to bust out the scraper this morning and let's with barry. >> hi, catherine and chris and morning. the low in boston was 31 degrees and that ties the low for the season, anyway, and the average this date is 37 degrees. the average low temperature for this date.

degrees at league -- 14 degrees at logan airport, 1936 and this morning with the morning lows and here are some teens for you and all are relatively low spots in some of the airports. norwood, bedford and fitchburg, 19 degrees down there and all in the teens. no, 16 degrees at the airport this morning and right now, it's 50 and it has, listen, 34 degrees since the morning lows and we're going to be close to the 50 degrees mark. may be slightly above and early this afternoon and it drops off in the afternoon. there is a bank of clouds over the connecticut river valley, extending into the southwestern rhode island area. for the most part, we'll stay sunny most of the afternoon. some of the clouds will approach from the south and west later on and in worcester county, you will see more cloudiness as the afternoon progresses. you see it education inning there throughout the afternoon. no rain this afternoon. just a pleasant one at 50 degrees. when will that rain arrive? i will give you the timeline on that and what the weekend is looking like.

a shooting on the border of investigation. and this is the scene here. the state police said that wbz shots were fired under the night. and officers found a window shot out of a nearby apartment. three men were in the area and right now, police are not saying if anyone was arrested and in manchester, new hampshire, 10 people are out of their home after an early morning fire. those flames broke out at the three-story home on rimmen street around 1 this morning. and things quickly spread. the fis had to fight cold weather conditions. and one person had to be taken to the hospital. everyone else was okay. and now at noon, dozens of students are refusing to go to class. they're holding a sit-in at the school's gym. they're upset over the loss of programs like music, theatre

a lack of resources and textbooks never addressed by administrators. the students tried to raise their carns at last night's school committee hearing but say they were not satisfied with the outcome. and this is the crazy end to a wild crash after a car comes barreling into a new hampshire auto parts store. you can see the car wound up on isle three at o'reilly auto parts. luckily nobody was hit inside and according to authorities, the 68-year-old driver thought her car was in park when she pedals. no charges were filed. there was no structural damage to that building. and this noon, donald trump continues to top the new hampshire polls. a new wbur poll out shows trump with 22% of the vote and he's leading the still crowded republican pack and followed by ben carson who lost four points from last month's poll and is tied with marco rubio who has been suddenly gaining voters

. today, a nashua, new hampshire, 11-year-old is credited with saving her family. >> and this is great. she noticed an odor and people were sick in the house. they were not feeling well and that is when she decided to call her dad and 911 firefighters. they say there was high levels of carbon monoxide in the home because of the faulty furnace. five people were taken to the hospital and are expected to be okay. >> what a story there. and did you feel it? an earthquake rattles metro west.

it sounded like an explosion before 8:30 last night and the u.s. geological survey said the quake was centered in towns of holliston and mid-way. the police got dozens of phone calls from concerned neighbors. >> and most was i shallny -- initially that the folks heard a loud bang in the area and things were rattling. we received 50 phone calls here in the police department. >> and it was out on a training mission so they quickly responded to the calls. at the end of it, there was no reports of any damage. everyone was okay. and have you ever felt an earthquake? and this is a weird thing. >> and i have. >> me, too. >> and a big one in california. >> you lived in california for a few years. >> u had, you and in oklahoma, we got a lot of them. >> huh. >> and 1.5. that is a baby. >> it is. you're right. and nobody was hurt. >> that is a good thing. >> and i had to you? >> yes.

the weather is going to get warmer. and going to -- colder from what it was this morning, we have a lot of teens and lower 20s. a radiational cooling sort of night and back up to 46 in boston right now, and hitting 31 at logan airport this morning. many other locations were much colder in the upper teens and low 20s from a few moments ago and that is recovered nicely. the sun is shining brightly in most spots and that is i batch of clouds in portions of the connecticut river valley. we're watching that and this mild weather off to the southwest. and milder weather is coming our way. we will have temperatures near 50 degrees for highs in many locations this afternoon and some 50s here the next few days and that is a nice change from the weather we have had the last few days. the reason for the cold weather last night, the high, a great big one and poised over us providing premium conditions and that is what happened. the next weather maker is taking place right here and that is sort of a wall of

nation and some severe weather the last few days and snow in the rockies and this is heading our way with a ribbon of rain coming through here tomorrow night and first thing friday morning and could be a few renegade showers before the main batch of rain gets here and lows in the low to mid-30s and upper 40s north and west. and certainly not nearly as cold as last night and the clouds start to roll in or prevent that radiational cooling and we go back to the 50s tomorrow. should be okay and not showing much sunshine. and we'll have that warmth without sunshine. a touch of sun here and there quickly and some spots near the coast. that is it. a few isolated showers might be existing out west. the main wall of water you can see is there and that is advancing eastward. we will get some scattered showers in the afternoon. the main rain comes through tomorrow night. and there you have it as a whole solid line of rain going on here and looks like it's clearing out quickly on the

back side of this and at 7:00, the rain ends and the clouds are there and clears up during friday morning and that is good as we go through the day and thursday night and friday, we -- we get most of the rain at least an inch and the timing is giving us most of the rain in the overnight period and tapering off first period. early morning folks commuting friday morning. there is a problem. it looks like there will be some heavy rain going on here east of massachusetts and it drops out there and the afternoon should be a-okay and that, the tree lighting spectacular should be cool and dry and pleasant and mot much -- not much wind around 40 degrees and into the 50 astomorrow and scattered showers in the afternoon and into tomorrow night and early friday. the sun may pop through the clouds on friday afternoon. over the weekend, a shower and rain and snow on sunday. don't worry about it now. doesn't look like it's amounting to anything and we'll
