i noticed she was cold, and i went over to her. i picked her up and put her in the car. >> reporter: the toddler was naked, her head was shaved, and she was pleading from a bump on her head. >> this is a female. call hamilton. try to get me some information on the missing child. >> reporter: yet here she was miles away, naked and alone in rowley. >> just like a jigsaw puzzle, parts are missing. >> reporter: her parents put her to bed, checked on her at 4:15, but at 7:00 a.m., she was gone. the man who found her has never been more relieved to have second-guessed himself. >> it could have been anyone. i guess it was luck or an act

of god or whatever it was. it was me. >> reporter: again, we have learned police are now questioning one of this little girl's former baby-sitters as a person of interest in connection with yesterday's terrible events here. in hamilton, jim armstrong, wbz this morning. >> the little girl's disappearance has certainly shaken people in what's typically a quiet neighborhood. neighbors couldn't believe it when they saw crime scene tape family's home. the family still hadn't returned as of last night, but good people. coverage. >> reporter: the home was quiet like it usually looks. far different from earlier in the day. a 2-year-old girl was taken from her bedroom. her parents called 911 at 7:00 in the morning. >> immediately, i can picture her trauma, her shock. just completely horrifying and nightmarish for me.

>> reporter: once the child was found in rowley, investigators descended on the streets. head around it. they say mom is always outside playing with her two kids. >> she's with them all day longhands on in their world. >> reporter: no doubt was ever were innocent. >> the karma coming from that household because they sore kind, so pleasant, and so wholesome, it's been a blessing to me. >> reporter: right now, neighbors are just glad she was found alive. they, too, are waiting to find out what happened. wbz this morning. >> there are still many we'll bring you any new information as soon as we get cbsboston.com. meanwhile, new this morning, the wife of former house speaker sal dimasi says he has been diagnosed with

prostate cancer now. she once again is fighting to get him released from federal prison. that's in the globe this morning. dimasi is about halfway through an 8-year sentence and the petition to be released under the compassionate release program. he was diagnosed with tongue cancer in 2012. his family says he has received subpar care behind bars. police are looking for the gunman responsible for a deadly shooting last night in jamaica plain around 6:00. one man died of his injuries. another is being treated at the hospital. this morning, the country of bell jam is in lockdown. police are patrolling key intersections of brussels, the capital. bell jam says there is a -- belgium says there is a serious and imminent threat. last night marked exactly one week since those attacks. all over the city, mourners prayed and left flowers.

in all, 130 people were killed. hospitalized. >> i want to come. i want to see. i don't want to stop to live because of this. yeah, i want to be here. >> next friday, france will hold a national ceremony in memory of the victims. at the same time, there is new information on the raid that took out the suspected ringleader of the paris attacks. investigators say they found a third body inside of the apartment they raided on thursday. it was the largest, most intense of nearly 800 raids conducted by french police in the last week. they fired more than 5,000 bullets. new jersey governor and republican presidential candidate chris christie will be in new hampshire today later than expected. that's because around 10:00 last night, kristi's flight from california finally landed in boston. it was five hours late because of a security scare. united airlines says a disruptive passenger was taking inappropriate pictures of

flight attendants and had to be removed. passengers were taken off the plane and randomly screened. it was a member of christie's own staff that fist report the actions. >> the most important thing was it was a full flight, and everybody's safe. everybody landed here and got home, you know? during the current atmosphere, you can never be too careful. >> they did have a guy at the gate that the cops are interrogating behind the desk. happened. they didn't tell us anything. >> reporter: what did you think when you got off and were physically searched? >> i deposit know what to think, you -- i didn't know what to think, you know? with everything that goes on problem with it. >> christie has three events scheduled for today, two town hall meetings and the granite state baseball dinner. for the day. we've already seen santa

and reindeers pop up as soon as the halloween decoration came down. now a bigger sign, the christmas tree at faneuil hall will be lit in a spectacular ceremony including an amazing light show. if you are going, you might want to make a day of it. driving may not be the best option. posten college plays -- boston college plays rival today so expect plenty of gold and maroon cloaked cars around the neighborhood. also keep in mind the bruins are at home at the garden so mass transit is probably your best bet. one more thing to remember, if you do take the t, the government station is still closed for renovations. trains will go through, but they won't stop. if you are on the green or red line, you'll have to walk from park street to the orange or blue line get off at state. if you just want to hang out on the couch and avoid all of what i just told you, you can do it and watch it live right other on wbz because our coverage starts at 7:00.

door, too. taunton up to 30. at one point, you guys were in the 30s. running colder in all locations compared to this time yesterday, anywhere from 15 to 30 degrees colder depending on where you are. taunton running 30 degrees colder. 17 degrees colder in boston. as we click into your hour by hour forecast, we reach 46 degrees at 11:00 a.m. we'll hold in the mid to upper 40s for the rest of the day. 48 in boston for that high. 50 norwood, 50 in taunton and a decent afternoon. average high is 50. this time of the year, faneuil hall, if you are heading downtown, tree-lighting spectacular on my tv 38 as well as on here, wbz. 42 degrees. cool, dry. if you aren't going there, well, relax and enjoy the spectacular sight. i can't believe it's already that time of the year.

but 32 degrees fitch. on sunday. here. those few clouds moving in, but we have some clearing york. once we get to the midwest here, they are dealing with some very heavy snow. that same system will affect us later into your day tomorrow. not bringing the snow, thank goodness, because around chicago, we're getting reports of anywhere from 7 to up to a foot of snow. so 7 to 12 inches of snow in some spots. the low pressure center continues to track to the north and to the east. by the time it reaches here sunday morning, the cold front pushes through. not a lot of moisture with it. that's some good news. another secondary low pushes up the coastline here. for early monday, that could give us a chance for a shower or two on the cape and islands. most of us dry, most of us breezy for a monday. 43 on tuesday.

welcome back. cooler temperatures don't sound so bad when you think about what other parts of the country are facing this weekend. a big snowstorm is hitting the midwest right now. before it ends, more than a foot of snow is expected to fall in iowa and south dakota. the weather has already caused dozens of accidents. the timing is pretty lousy, of course, with travelers already hitting the roads and the skies for thanksgiving. several inches of snow is expected to fall in the city of chicago where one of the world's busiest airports is located. if you are wondering what our winter will bring, pamela and the rest of the accuweather team have made their official predictions. you can find them on our web site, cbsboston.com under weather. so check it out. much more news ahead this morning. coming up, who are you going to call when an owl gets loose in your hotel? who, i ask? meet the police officer who trains for just such an occasion.

turning to campaign 2016. ben carson is now officially on the new hampshire primary ballot. he filed his paperwork yesterday in concord. carson is the last major gop candidate to do so, and he didn't leave himself a lot of time. friday was the last day to file. new hampshire's primary is the first in the nation. there was an unusual guest at the ritz-carlton in aspen. a gray horned owl somehow got through the attic and found its way into the fourth floor hallway. a police officer experienced with capturing owls was able to grab the bird in a blanket and calm him down. look at his little eyes. he's kind of cute. the owl was then released back into the wild.

the great color this time of the year. i love it. so right over boston, waking up to a thin day. enough to block out to a little bit of sunshine. filtered sun will be the key point to this morning along with the chilly temperatures but warm up nicely by this afternoon. we'll be right around average. we'll keep it dry today, too. 39 in boston as you head out the door. you'll want that heavy coat in orange, keene. 36 degrees new bedford. running colder in all spots compared to this time yesterday, 15 to 30 degrees colder. a shock to the system as you head out for that morning jog. 34 degrees with that average temperature across the board here. long sleeves needed as that official sunrise returns here at 6:42. highs today will be in the 40s. we will continue to have some warmer temperatures for your day tomorrow and a chance for rain.

timing in just a bit. kerry? we do begin with breaking news. state police have arrested the former baby-sitter in the disappearance of a 2-year-old little girl. 21-year-old abigail hannah of topsfield is now facing assault and other charges. she was questioned last night. the child disappeared early friday morning from a home in hamilton and was found several hours later alive alongside a road in rowley. the 2-year-old was bruised, not wearing any chromes, and her head had been -- not wearing any clothes, and her head has been shaved. police believe there was no threat to any other children. the wife of former house speaker sal dimasi says he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer according to "the globe." now she's frying again to have him freed on compassionate release.

he was diagnosed with tongue cancer in 2012. his family claims the care he is getting in prison is not good enough. he is serving an eight-year term for corruption. the american woman killed in a terrorist attack in mali is a native of western mass. anita datar was working for a company out of maryland. she dedicated her life to help others. she spent time in africa as the peace corps volunteer. datar was one of more than 20 people killed in the west david wade has more. >> reporter: guests at the radisson blue hotel many mali's capital were rushed to safety after gunmen with diplomating plates blew right through a security barrier and started shooting. this hotel worker said the

other witnesses said the men shouted "god is great" in arabic, and that they also spoke both french and english. american anita datar was among two dozen people killed. >> we're devastated by the loss of our wonderful daughter who was doing the work that she loved. we have no further comment at this time and ask that you respect our privacy. >> reporter: the two gunmen were also killed. the us state department said a dozen of its employees were went door-to-door. u.s. forces helped to evacuate some of the hostages during the seven-hour long siege. >> the terrorists began ruthlessly killing people and taking hostages. so on behalf of the american people, i want to extend our deepest condolences to the people of mali and the vic's families, including at least one american. >> reporter: anita datar is

survived by a son, her brother, and her parents. were toists have claimed responsibility for the attack. the worldwide syrian refugee crisis is continuing to impact lives here in boston. last night, activists rallied outside of the statehouse supporting the men, women, and children fleeing syria. they are protesting efforts to block the refugees from entering the u.s. in the wake of the attacks in paris. some in congress and many governors including charlie baker have come out against accepting refugees. >> this is such a rich country and other poor countries of the world haven't accepted any. 2,000 is nothing. >> governor baker is refusing to sign a letter asking the president to suspend efforts to resettle syrians. meanwhile, a 9-year-old syrian refugee pleading with president obama to allow more

the u.s. to rebuild their lives. the little boy has already suffered emotional and physical losses about he onanything a child should -- beyond anything a child should have to live through. now as he tells our bill shields, he wants to stay safe over. >> reporter: he has the irrepressible smile of any 9- year-old. what he doesn't have are his arms. a bomb that hit a syrian refugee camp took his arms and killed three of his siblings. he doesn't dwell on the tragedy. >> if i'm happy or not happy, if i'm not happy, it will not bring back my sisters and brothers that i lost. it will not bring back my aunts, so i might as well be happy. >> reporter: we've seen the pictures of those trying to get away from the killings. 4 million have made it out. ahmad made it here with his father. >> we stand with our friend and little brother ahmad and all

our country. haunting images in the trifle a high school student teacher. yesterday, jurors watched surveillance video of a masked philip chism rolling a recycling bin through the halls two years ago. prosecutors say he put the body of colleen ritzer in the bin the women's rest room. chism's history teacher took the stand on friday describing him adds a polite student. his attorneys are using an insanity defense. the former army reserve is charged with stealing an arsenal of weapons in worcester has been ordered back to massachusetts. james morales appeared in federal court in new york where he was captured earlier this week. the fbi says he stole 16 guns from an armory last weekend. surveillance video helped lead to his arrest. fantasy sports sites have been in the headlines a lot lately. this morning, a closer look at

a few clouds moving in right now. high, thin level clouds not going to brock out the sunshine too, too much. then we have clearing conditions moving in, in the next couple of hours as well. the midwest getting rocked with the fist snowstorm of the season. i'm seeing reports of anything from 7 inches up to a foot of snow around the chicagoland area. that snow-maker will track to the north and east. thankfully for us, we'll avoid our snow-maker at least the fist one of the season here. 5:00 a.m. sunday, the snow is way to the north and canada, we have a cold front extended from it. a few of the showers will pass through the forecast. most of the day will be dry. then sunday night into monday morning, this coastal low will pass by the cape and islands giving you dies some morning showers monday but then the rest of the day is dry and for the rest of us dry, breezy, cool 41 degrees. patriots play at home that evening. chilly temperatures in the 30s. then thanksgiving looking ahead to thursday 52.

well this is video you really have to see to believe. a landslide in california has ripped apart a highway. look at that, a 200 foot stretch of this road in santa clarita buckled. taking utility poles and road signs with it. geologists believe heavy rain saturated the sponge-like rock causing them to slide. facebook founder mark zuckerburg says he will take two full months of paternity

welcome back. the stage is set for a holiday tradition here in boston. the faneuil hall tree-lighting spectacular is tonight, believe it or not. crews put the finishing touches yesterday. when the switch is flipped, you'll see 30,000 lights. the event will also include performances by the blue man group and keith lockhart. you can see it tonight starting at 7:00. as we've been reporting, there has been an arrest in connection with the toddler. an update on our breaking news and the rest of the day's top stories coming up at the top of the hour.
