live from the channel 4 studios in boston, wbz news at 11 time starts right now. we have breaking news off the top tonight. it's a city on edge. chicago protesters hitting the street after police release dashcam video-a white police officer shooting a black teenager 16 times. tonight that officer involved is charged with first degree murder. prosecutors say there is that boy. >> reporter: prosecutors admit that laqaun mcdonald had pcp in his system but say there's no act like this.

shows them trying to walk past police. that's when they open fire and the officer shoots mcdonald again and again, 16 times total including in the head and chest. it does appear the 17-year-old had a knife, but did not reveal it. >> if you could, would you take back what happened that night? >> reporter: jason van dike was charged with first degree murder. >> people have a right to be angry, people have a right to protest, people have a right to free speech, but they do not have a right to commit criminal acts. >> reporter: they argued tuesday the 14 year veteran feared for his life. mcdonald was known to be carrying a knife and was known

burglary of a junk yard. >> what was my client experiencing at the split second time he decided to fire? >> reporter: records show he was never disciplined in any of other indications involving other issues. a chelsey police officer punched a hand cuffed man and the officers with sentenced to three years probation and has resigned from the department. a elderly woman loses pedestrians. tonight one of them is dead and julie. >> reporter: witnesses say this car was out of control coming around a corner only coming to a stop after it hit that build.
