car in miami gardens, florida. he was hilt in the head -- hit in the head, but his injuries are not life-threatening. he is serving a four-game suspension for violating the substance abuse policy. hours after the release of dash cam video showing a white police officer shooting a black teen 16 times caused a clash between police and protests. >> chicago leaders and the for calm. latest. >> reporter: the shooting happened in october of last year. it's coming to light and sparking protests as we see the dash cam for the first time. 17-year-old la kwon mcdonald, two police officers

on his way to africa for a historic visit. he's stopping in kenya, uganda and the last stop will be the fist time any pope will visit an active war zone. the u.n. sent in additional peacekeepers to assist with security. two daily fantasy sports web sites will be in court for a hearing today. new york's attorney general is trying to stop fan duel and draft kings from doing business in the empire state arguing that the sites amount to gambling, which sill legal. the sites are making one change. the "new york times" says both sites started blocking users from state where's fantasy sports betting is already illegal. a deadly crash at a natick shopping center is under investigation. investigators say an elderly driver crashed into three pedestrians after losing control of her car. one has died. the other two are still in the hospital.

driving pretty fast for a parking lot. >> we heard this tremendous noise, you know, metal being crunched. we witnessed at car that came around the corner. we saw it change direction and we thought it was going to impact the front of the store. >> the elderly woman was scene. right now, the search is on for a dorchester man accused of killing a woman and setting her poddy on fire. the suspect is identified as fernando owens you see here. the victim's bound and burned earlier this month. the d.a. says owe fens believes it had nothing do with the death of her son. >> reporter: cell phone reports show there were 13 phone calls the day ashley was killed. state police additionally seized several items at owens'

mayor marty walsh showed off two new snow blowers to help clear the streets faster. by the way, last winter, mayor walsh says the dpw crews removed 40,000 tons of snow and plowed 295,000 miles of road, which is equal to 12 trips around "the globe." >> no big deal. >> i just keep thinking, what is this winter going to be like? >> that i can say with certainty here. >> there's no snow in the forecast. >> a lot of people will be on the roads and air travelers. >> last year, weren't we dealing with ice and snow? >> and it was black friday, too. thanksgiving night into black friday morning. that slickened the roads in a lot of spots. look at the city of boston

up in just over a half hour from now. the warmest thanksgiving was 1941 in boston. we were 71 degrees. the wettest period, 2.6 inches and the snowiest, 4.4 inches at logan airport back in 1989. this thanksgiving, 50s with sunshine and clouds not too bad, right? it's 30 in boston. temperatures are similar to yesterday. we had teens to taunton. the sun is going to be shining. clear skies overhead right now. that will be with us from start to finish today. notice a lot of the eastern two-thirds of the country doing just fine. we have a storm system coming into the west coast, the rain and snow stretching back up into the northern plains. that will wreak havoc into the center of the state.

no travel issues for weather across new england, across the northeast. tomorrow we start with clouds in the morning across the interior. so here's the thing. we get a wind from the south bringing in the low-level moisture. the bright blue skies will be mixed with cold weather. at times we will be mixed with the mid-50s. heading into friday, 60 in a lot of spots. week. friday into saturday the front comes in. we'll be mild enough that it's plain old scattered rain into early saturday. high temperatures today middle to upper 40s for most of us. not as cold as yesterday. should be. 39 in boston overnight tonight. a lot of the suburbs dip back into the lower 30s. know there are a lot of big

break-ins. eight homes were targeted monday. several just a few doors apart. each time, the thieves were after small items like electronics, jewelry and cash. in one case, they took a gun. >> these were actually forced entries. windows and doors were pried or kicked. >> police say the robberies happened during the daylight hours. they are looking for at least three men, two white, one black with a dark colored suv. the mbta is pulling back on controversial changes on the commuter rail. it cut service to certain lines stops altogether. they were supposed to take effect on december 14th. there's been such a public backlash that the t is now tabling the plan until next spring. that's also when the changes to

welcome back. it's 6:23 right now. an unlikely discovery at a church nativity scene in queens, new york. a newborn baby boy found in a manger. police believe the boy was just about four hours old when a church custodian heard his cries and found him. he was wrapped up in towels. his um billick cal order -- umbilical cord still attached. the church is considered a safe haven but because no one was notified, whoever dropped him off could face charges. >> we're also hearing a parishioner has offered to adopt the painy. there is a growing trend in many professions to hire young employees who are less

expensive. >> and a closer look at why experience should matter more. >> reporter: good morning. if you are a sports fan, you are probably still buzzing about monday night's patriots game and the atrocious display of incompetence turned in by the officials who blew numerous key call that hurt both teams. it turns out, members didn't either know the rules or were so inexperienced they were going by college rules instead of the professional ones. professional. that's the key word here. amazingly, given the scrutiny and amount of money involved, the nfl uses part-time officials who have other jobs during the week. so much for their commitment to the integrity of the game. that's not the only industry where part timers are handling jobs that really need to be filmed by part-time professionals. look at journalism where you

your news from someone without basic reporting skills or an experienced editor scrutinizing their work. how about politics where rank amateurs are all of the rage in the republican primary at least despite the disappointing performances of two underexperienced presidents in a row. there's no way to say this without sundaying to some like an old coot shouting at the neighborhood kids to get off his lawn so i'm just going to go for it. experience matters. it can be the antidote to panic, confusion, and destructive knee jerk reaction of all kinds. new blood is generally a good thing in any profession. anyone who thinks greener and cheaper are better than older and wiser ought to realize you get what you pay for. talk back to me at keller@cbsboston.com. new this morning, history in the nba.

the accident is in the median. then from the north, 93 southbound looks better than normal. only slowing down between medford and the leverett connector. chris and kathryn? breaking overnight, an player shot. rams wide receiver stedman bailey is in critical but stable condition right now. bailey was shot while sitting in a car many miami, florida. his injuries are not light threatening after being shot in the head. no word on any arrests. bailey is currently serving a four-game suspension for violating the substance abuse policy. we're following developing news. a tense night in chicago. protesters marched through the streets clashing with police at times. >> the unrest comes after graphic video shows a white police officer shooting a black teen 16 times killing him. nicole jacobs is following the developments. good morning, nicole.

p city braced for what it knew would be a tense situation. the video is disturbing and shows the moment 17-year-old la kwon mcdonald was shot and killed by 14-year veteran police officer jason van dike. mcdonald was shot 16 times including in the head and chestal within 15 seconds. most of shots were fired when the teen was on the ground. van dike has been charged with first-degree murder. hundreds of protesters flocked to the streets in outrage. the victim's parents and city leaders are calling for peace. >> people have a right to be angry. people have a right to protest. people have a right to prespeech, bust they do not have a right to commit criminal acts. >> several protesters have been arrested, though, for the most part, the protest has been peaceful. nicole jacobs, wbz this morning.

yesterday's commute was a mess out there. today isn't expected to be too much better. susie steimle is live along the pike with tips to help get you to your destination more quickly. hi, susie. >> good morning, chris. happy day before thanksgiving. we're taking a look at traffic along the pike. right now we haven't seen any problems. there has been a steady flow throughout the morning starting around 4:30. we haven't seen any snarls yet. that will likely change a little later on in the day. the tips from officials right now saying, don't drive between 4:00 in the afternoon and 8:00 in the afternoon. we know that 47 million americans will be traveling over the next couple of days for thanksgiving and 42 million of those 47 will be in their cars out on the road. aaa tells us that gas prices have a lot to do with that. on average, people are paying about $11 less a gallon than they were this time of year.

we caught up with some drivers last night trying to beat any of the congestion for their travels. >> going in, it wasn't bad. i could see the traffic going out of boston was really backed up. we've only come to a complete stop twice, so that's good. >> reporter: also, some good news for you out on the road if you under the allston brighton area, if you are going through the tolls there, they are offering free tolls and free coffee. only from 7:00 this morning until 8:00 this morning. so that's actually just in the next 20, 30 minutes if you want to get out there. if you are in the area, there's motivation for to you start your day, traveling for the thanksgiving holiday. live in natick, susie steimle, wbz this morning. >> i love that free coffee. the man police say posed as an attorney is being held on $10,000 bail. david koraza is facing charges after he was advertising his services as a lawyer, but he doesn't have a license.

he charged two clients thousands for legal fees for work he didn't do. frightening moments for a brockton teen. 16-year-old haleigh was home alone when a burglar broke in and started ransacking the bedrooms. the teen decided to hide and called 911. >> what room are you? >> i'm in the bathroom. >> is the door locked? >> there is no lock. i was like, you know what? i have to try to maintain myself because if he hears me, that might not be good for me. so i was like, okay, just be calm. let me take deep breaths anding to be to this operator. >> police say they arrived just as the moon broct the burglar

trump's wife says he would be "the best president ever." trump's family joined him on stage for an event in myrtle beach, south carolina. it is the fist time he's husband. charlie baker is get going grades this morning. a suffolk university poll finds baker has a 07% favorability rating making it one of the -- 70% favorability rating making it one of the best in history. baker said he was accepting refugees for now and only 47% of voter agreed with him. a who's who honored at the white house. prime minister handed out the medal of freedom award including baseball legend willie mays, james taylor and barbra streisand.

the west coast creating areas of snow already developing from oregon back towards montana with blizzard warnings in parts of wyoming. for us, though, the big blue h, fair weather is in control and will stay in control during the day today and toll. what will happen, low-level moisture in the form of clouds tomorrow. so don't expect the bright blue skies we have today. there will be clouds and at times it may turn mostly cloudy particularly through the interior. nonetheless, it will be a dry day. dry to end the week on friday. morning clouds for some sunshine on friday. friday into saturday morning we get scattered rain showers. high temperatures today, mid-to upper 40s today. just a few degrees shy of where we should be.

one pedestrian has decide and two others in the hospital. police say an elderly driver hit them. police say he's arm and dangerous. right now, they are looking for fer fan doe owens. he is accused of killing a woman and setting her body on fire. her body was found bound and burned near the train tracks earlier this month. draftkings is headed to court. the state attorney general is trying to stop the fantasy sports site from doing business in new york. new this morning, the "new york times" says both fan duel and draftkings are blocking it from state where online betting is already illegal. a first look at the new captain america movie. >> we'll take a look at the trailer that was released overnight.
