>> it's been a chilly week so far. the temperatures are about to go up. who can see 60s to end the week and important updates to the holiday forecast. >> and looking if order to it. stepped-up security. the new efforts greeting millions of passengers as they head out toward the holidays. >> and an officer facing murder charges in chicago. . we begin with breaking news at noon. a worcester officer recovering after being hit while directing traffic. and sky eye over the scene at grafton and franklin streets. the car involved took off after the crash and they're looking for a red chevy sedan. the officer involved is doing okay this afternoon and is expected to recover. >> and right now, the holiday travel rush is underway from the nation's roads to the

millions of americans are making the trek to see family and friends for thanksgiving. >> and right now, the president is meeting with national security advisors. we want to get to a news conference that is going to be taking place underway. afterwards, he is expected to address the nation. a speech we'll be bringing to you live. >> and we're expecting the president to speak any moment now. this is after a meeting with the national security team and that is -- what is going on across the country as folks get out and begin travel plans across the country. a lot of changes are in place at airports. >> and this is the busiest travel season of the yearia. gee and timing is everything. and there are no specific or credible. >> jim axelrod: i'm jim axelrod. president obama making a statement from the white house. >> -- homeland security jai johnston, my f.b.i. director, and my attorney general loretta lynch for a regular update on

and going into the holiday season. i think all of us recognize how horrific and heinous what took place in paris was and, as i said yesterday, for many of us, the events there touched a deep chord, given the connection between the united states and france, the degree to which americans see in paris a way of life that's so familiar to us here in american cities, and given the shocking images, i know that americans have been asking each other whether it's safe here, whether it's safe to fly or gather. i know the families have discussed their fears about the threat of terrorism around the dinner table, many for the first time since september 11. it's understandable that people worry something similar could happen here. watching the events in paris made the threat feel closer to

so as we go into thanksgiving weekend, i want the american people to know we are taking every possible step to keep our homeland safe. first, we're going after i.s.i.l wherever it hides. that's been our strategy for more than a year. i'll speak about this in more detail in the coming weeks, but let me remind the american people of what our coalition of some 65 nations is doing to destroy these terrorists and defeat their ideology. so far military and our partners have conducted more than 8,000 airstrikes on i.s.i.l strongholds and equipment. those airstrikes along with our efforts with partners on the ground have taken out key leaders, have taken back territory from i.s.i.l in both iraq and syria. we continue to work to choke off their financing and their supply lines and countertheir recruitment and messaging and even as america is already supporting french airstrikes in

syria, yesterday president hollande and i agreed our countries are going to step up that coordination even further and do more of that work together. so we're stepping up the pressure on i.s.i.l where it lives and we will not let up. adjusting our tactics when necessary until they are beaten. that's our first goal. second, we continue to do everything possible to prevent attacks at home and abroad and

. wrapping up a special report from president obama releasing a statement on homeland security at the white house. interesting that he reiterated the fact that if you see something, say something, be vigilant and enjoy the holiday. >> and stressing the point there is no specific or incred -- credible threat and encouraging all americans to go out and enjoy the holiday with loved ones. in other news, new york police are putting more plain clothes officers along the iconic macy's thanksgiving day parade route. more than 1 million people are expected tomorrow and this year, they will be using radiation detectors to keep crowds safe. extra security is expect at fenway park today and tomorrow and several high school rivalries will be playing the thanksgiving football games at the historic park. >> and more than 60,000 passengers are expected to come through logan airport today and they'll be greeted by increased security across the country. heavily armed officers will patrol terminals and tsa agents have been told to take their

time screening bags. to keep things moving along, the tsa said to check in and make sure some common items are checked in those bags. and if you have maple syrup or gravy, a bottle of wine, something like that, we see passengers make the mistakes and please put them in checked luggage or pick them up at your destination. >> the tsa said be sure to arrive early and be prepared with ocean on hand. still ahead, a car careens out of control and takes out several people in a busy shopping parking lot. what we're learning about the horrific accident. >> and so the sun is shining out there now. great for travelling and tomorrow looks nice. how that will play into our

use issy is live for us with the latest on this. good afternoon, susie? >> reporter: good afternoon. we have just learned that the driver is an 88-year-old woman from framingham and that her license has been suspended because of yesterday's accident. at this point, no charges have been filed against her and as for eyewitnesses, they're having a tough time forgetting what they saw. it's the kind of accident that happens so fast that you don't get time to react. >> it was me. it was really me. >> reporter: one day later, the reality and setting in. for eyewitness -- [ indiscernible ] >> reporter: it's painful to remember. >> carnage. i couldn't go to the -- and just wanted to dial 911 and multiple ambulances. >> reporter: al watched as a woman in her 80s driving a white buick came flying around

the corner of the cloverleaf marketplace in natick across from the natick mall. her car jumped the curb and hit three men. two in their 70s, one in his 40s. and shoo crashed into the side of the building. she and three men were hospitalized. one man didn't survive. >> yesterday what, we saw was life can change in just a second and it can for everybody. >> he watched the accident from his showroom window. he's having a hard time shaking what he saw. >> we're really watching our surroundings and i'm trying to be aware -- coming in and out of here and taking for granted. >> reporter: both eyewitnesses said they're worried about the driver. they can't imagine this was done on purpose. >> god bless her, too. she couldn't do everything. that happened to anyone. >> reporter: just one storefront away from where this accident happened is burlington coat factory. police say they are taking a look at some surveillance video that was recorded at the time

to determine what went wrong here. live in natick, susie steimel, wbz news. >> such a tough story. thank you very much. developing at noon, tension is building in chicago after a night of protests. it all stems from just-released video showing a white police officer shooting and killing a black teenager. that officer is now charged with murder one year after the shooting. nicole jacobs is live in the satellite center with the latest developments. good afternoon, nicole. >> good afternoon to you. a judge ordered the release of the video. community activists have been calling for that move for more than a year. it details the 15 seconds that led to laquan mcdonald's death. it's police dash cam video sparking outrage in the city of chicago. 17-year-old la cursing an mcdonald walking in the street. two police officers approaching and within six seconds, the first shot. 15 more would follow. two mcdonald's head, chest, and throughout his body, all while

the video pushed hundreds to take to the streets in protest, marching and chanting to the police station. coming face-to-face with many before the most part -- for the most part, maintaining peace. >> and it was peaceful and yet stressed out. >> i that is the call for mcdonald's family and city leaders as they braced for tension and the possibility of more to come. >> people have the right to be angry. people have a right to protest. people have a right to free speech but they don't have the right to commit criminal acts. >> if you could, would you take back what happened that night? >> reporter: the 49-year veteran behind the trigger charged with first-degree murder. >> people will judge this split- section action of my client; however, the standard in this case is what was my client experiencing at a time in which he made this split-second decision to fire? >> reporter: it was self- defense, he said. mcdonald had a pocketknife and was wanted in connection with a freight yard burglary.

>> reporter: mcdonald's was also found to have pcp in his system, a preliminary investigation showing although he had that pocketknife on him, he did not use it to threaten police. as for the officer, the judge denied him bail. a final decision on that will be made at a hearing set for next monday. in the satellite center, nicole centers, wbz news. >> thank you. and new at noon, a framingham woman is charged with attacking her 103-year-old neighbor. police say leslie belvo threw the man to the floor when he refused to give her money. this happened on monday and the lawyer said there was no assault and the man is, quote, confused. police have security video showing her entering the man's apartment. and we have to take a live look over the city of boston now for last-minute struggles for thanksgiving and that is a nice day to get out and do it if you don't mind the traffic. there is going to be a lot of people hitting the road today. >> i try to think of all of the

things i too to do, like prepping potatoes and getting the green bean casserole going. >> and your hands will be tired from all of the peeling. >> i know. >> it's never ending. >> yes. >> and if you're stuck in the traffic, roll down the windows, you know and that is shining. we're seeing warm-up, too and in time for the thanksgiving holidays. temperatures are in the 40s and that is still on the cool side and 7 miles an hour and the real feel, 40 degrees and the air is nice and dry. a little bit cooler than where we should be. and coming up by two more degrees in the afternoon and most communities, that is it. and a couple of clouds in northern vermont and low clouds to the south. they will play a role in the forecast. the second. of weather going on.

the first coast is seeing the storminess here. the upper left lowy ising areas of snow right now from montana and into wyoming and idaho. there is some blizzard warnings for parts of wyoming. a few inches will fall in spots. the blowing wind will create near visibility for parts of the intermountain west. the blue-h, the dominant feature on the weather map, the high pressure and fair weather in control during the course of the next 24 to 48 hours and this is the deal, though. this evening, a lot of plans, right? a lot of people like to go up the night before thanksgiving. things look fine. we'll be fine. -- dry. the high pressure is in charge. some of the low clouds are moving in tonight and tomorrow. that, i think, is the biggest difference for your thanksgiving and that is not going to be the bright blue skies and that southerly wind transported in some milder air. temperatures into the mid-50s and even though the clouds will win out at times and into the evening and night, friday into the week, the temperatures into

of sunshine on friday and here come the cold front and friday evening, why it's not in here and snow for northern new england and some areas of rain. overnight on friday and into saturday morning. you are probably waking up saturday to a few pockets of rain and temperatures are cooler and dry the rest of the weekend and partly cloudy overnight tonight, 39 degrees and 30 to 35 in the suburbs and a lot of football games tomorrow morning and temperatures in the upper 30s to mid-40s and that is going to be colder this time of the year and a lot of turkey trots, too and tomorrow in andover, and more clouds, upper 30s and we rise into the 50s for our thanksgiving afternoon. and a lot of clouds around and some sunshine here and there. sixty to end the week. an early morning show or saturday and into the 40s and the 40s to start next week.
