a lot of it has to do with the cloud cover. it's moved in. where it's broken apart, that's where it's cooled off. the clouds may be stubborn but i do think we'll see peeks of sunshine from time to time. it will be dry. temperatures come into the area with an above average day. running in the middle to upper 50s across the southeast part of the state as well. we'll take you through the holiday weekend. black friday, of course, tomorrow. so a lot of shoppers will be heading out. i'll have that forecast for new a couple of minutes. boston. area bar. one person killed, three others hurt. >> nicole jacobs is live outside who's on first with the latest. nicole? >> reporter: julie, i want to make one clarification. the chief has confirmed that three people total were shot. one of those three has died. the other two, we're told, have nonlife-threatening injuries.

we're live right here at the corner of yawkey way and vanness streets. you can see an active scene here. i want to get you right to some video of who's on first. right out in front is where police say they found the victim when they arrived. officers patrolling the area actually heard the gunshots and responded to the area where they saw hundreds of people running from the scene. here's the chief describing just the chaos. let's listen. >> we couldn't tell. it was a chaotic scene. several hundred people fleeing, and you couldn't pick out who was whom. what was good is that we'll be gleaning video footage from the cameras and day cameras as well to see if anybody was out. >> reporter: so they are really depending on the surveillance video this morning. they hope to get some kind of

answers. we know there were private functions here at who's on first. it's unclear if everyone involved in the shooting was at that function. that's under investigation, but again a terrible situation here on thanksgiving. one person has died from injuries. we know he is a male in his late 20s and two others taken to the hospital with nonlife- threatening injuries. we're live in boston, nicole jacobs, wbz this morning. >> just awful. america is on alert. the fbi warning is to police to be vigilant as millions of people travel and shop this thanksgiving holiday weekend. the concern, copy cat-like attacks like we saw in paris. there is no credible threat in the u.s. >> president obama wants people to know his administration is prepared. we'll take a closer look now at the stepped up security. >> i'm not concerned at all. there's been hype i've heard on

the radio, but other than that, it's business as usual. some i don't feel alarmed whatsoever. they are very strict and reassuring that they have everything under control. >> passenger as logan wait in longer lines and stricter security, but many say fear won't stop them from debting where they need to go. will you shop on friday, too? >> yes, i will, actually. moving on. life goes on. >> reporter: which was echoed at the wrentham outlets early in the day. >> some can happen, you can't stop it. >> reporter: while some are anxious. >> there should be an ample amount of security on friday because there will be a lot of people here. >> reporter: most have faith in what the government is saying. >> there is no credible threat. respect to certainly massachusetts. >> i wouldn't go to new york over the holidays, put something like this, i don't think twice. >> reporter: there's also extra security in new york city for the macy's thanksgiving day parade, which happens this morning. members of a new counterterrorism unit will join

an extra 2500 police officers. last week, crews were busy putting the finishing touches on the giant balloons. demonstrators protesting the death of a chicago teenager are vowing to shut down part of the city on black friday. they hit the streets in protest again last night. on tuesday, the city released dash cam video of the incident that shows a white police officer shooting a black teenager 16 times. the same day that officer was charged with murdering 17-year- old la kwon mcdonald. an agonizing wait for a boston family. a 6-year-old boy stuck with a dirty needle outside his school. now he's being tested for diseases like hepatitis and hiv. his family, understandably, is angry. kate can i brace spoke -- katie brace spoke to them. >> reporter: advancing to the next level of his game is all his mom wants him to focus on. he knows something is wrong.

>> i am scared of needles, mama. >> reporter: but his mother focuses on a little more than just this. >> he's only 6 and have i to test him for -- and i have to test him for hiv, hepatitis and other diseases. >> reporter: he was picking up leaves when he was left with two needle pricks on his arm. >> our children are supposed to be safe at home as well as school. i don't feel safe bringing my child to school anymore. >> reporter: it wasn't until she raised concerns with an emt that the needle was found. she says the school need tops do a better job communicating with parents saying a voice mail did not go out until today. >> parents want to know if a child got stuck with a needle pause how do we know he is the only one? >> reporter: he's at a low risk of catching anything. >> whether it's a low risk,

high risk, there shouldn't be any type of risk. >> reporter: the family is moving to another school and city saying the risk here is too high. >> they're my painies. some are the boston health commission searched the area before the kids returned to school on wednesday and found one needle. the school system also says they will make sure to educate kids about needles to make sure this does not happen again. katie brace, wbz this morning. in case you are just waking up, today is thanksgiving. >> is it? >> so start debting the turkey ready -- start getting the turkey ready. >> the women's place is getting ready to serve a thanksgiving day feast to more than 150 women. susie steimle has a closer look at the prep. susie. >> reporter: good morning, julie and chris. happy thanksgiving to you. as you guys know, this day is all about the meal and appreciating what you have for many of us. that's why it's worth recognizing that not everybody

has a home to go to on this day or nice meal waiting for them. that's where the women's lunch place comes in. this afternoon, they will be serving lunch to 150 people via thanksgiving feast they spent all day preparing. this is a nonprofit that does this monday through saturday with the slogan dignity is everything. so rather than a regular soup kitchen, they do a restaurant style service here. they serve you at your table. there's no plastic ware here. it's real plates, real silverware. they started back in 1982 focusing on homeless women in boston. in a little bit, we'll give you a peek inside of the preparations. we'll also talk with the executive director later this morning. this is an organization that is based on donations, so if this strikes a chord with you and

we'll talk about the weekend in a few. chris? deadly violence near fenway park. one person killed, two others shot at the who's on first bar. it is being described as pure chaos by police. party goers running as police who happened to be patrolling the area tried to get inside. there they found one person dead from a gunshot wound and two others shot and at the hospital. we have a crew on the scene. you can't miss the extra security. at logan airport, state troopers are carrying long guns ready for active shooter scenarios. they will also have more patrols at shopping malls and other potential soft targets. there's no specific terror threat right now, but americans are being warned to be vigilant. an elderly woman involved

license suspended but so far, she isn't facing any charges. the 88-year-old lost control of her car and crashed into three people killing ken mcdonald. veteran. mcdonald's son says this is a wake-up call that the state should set up road test drivers. learning to live is already frightening, but imagine how frightening it would be if someone threatened you with a gun. three students were in a car with an instructor when a man knocked on the window. it was terrifying. >> he was very clear if the student hit his car he would shoot us. >> reporter: the instructor says when she realized the die actually had a -- the guy actually had a gun, they drove away and called police. he was charged with criminal

threatening. a special rescue mission. by the cold. crews saved more than 60 of them so far and for the creatures being found there is death. that means treatment at the sea turtle hospital. >> every november and december, we have what's called the sea turtle stranding season. >> reporter: the water is just too cold for them. they are lethargic and drift. when winds blow, waves push them onto land. hundreds of volunteers search for the turtles and they are brought here. >> we're in the new england acare yum sea turtle -- aquarium sea turtle hospital. >> reporter: volunteers examine the patients, draw blood, take x-rays and treat cases of pneumonia.

welcome back. a newton mother has a lot to be thankful for this year. her little boy is thriving, she launched a new business and she's cancer free. >> she's using her new business to try to help beat the disease that nearly took her life. >> reporter: sally is a mom on a mission. she knows the demands of having a 2-year-old and balancing that with a business. >> this is one of our small little bee bracelet. >> reporter: the inspirational line all about being positive. >> we love the idea of using the bee as our symbol. so we love the play on words

with just bees. >> reporter: she never realized how much she'd need that very message two years ago. >> i couldn't comprehend how this most amazing, special time in our lives had suddenly turned into a nightmare. >> reporter: seven months pregnant with sam, she was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and given two years to live. >> we never thought it would be cancer. i don't have a family history of that. i was only 31 years old. >> reporter: she delivered her healthy baby boy and a week later began several rounds of chemotherapy at mass general. strongest supporter. >> what was important to us was as normal a family life as possible. >> reporter: after surviving the fight of her life, sally can now say -- >> i am cancer free, yes. i am fortunate and happy. >> reporter: her focus is on family and a new beginning with her business.

so an above average day today. satellite and radar shows the deck of clouds that's moved in. don't expect the bright blue skies like we had out there yesterday. the clouds will win out at times today, but there will be peeks of sun sign that come out. -- sunshine that come out. late in the day, we do get more sunshine, increasing sunshine through the day today. through the evening and night, though, the clouds fill back in. dry and mild. temperatures come up around 60 tomorrow. then there's a cold front. this marks the leading edge of cold that comes out. it gets ushered in by a couple of rain showers. notice there's not a ton of moisture with it. i'm not anticipating a steady other heavy rain light that. high pressure builds in, drier air comes in and the cooler air will filter in through the course of the weekend.

>> nicole jacobs is live outside at who's on first. >> reporter: good morning. still an active scene here. you can see the police officers here as the morning picks up. of course you see more activity and they are not letting anyone down this stretch of yawkey way. i want to get you closer to the who's on first area there where police say they found one man dead. it happened around 2:00 this morning. we're told officers were patrolling this area when they heard gunshots. went closer to investigate and saw hundreds of people running from the scene. at this hour, police have no idea who the suspects might be. they are searching a surveillance video. they are making a plea to the public as well. we know there was a private function going on at that bar at the time. it's unclear if the people who were involved were actually involved in that private

function, but nonetheless, this is an ongoing investigation. they are trying to determine who shot and killed this late 20s male and who shot those other two individuals as well. still an ongoing investigation. we'll continue to keep you posted. >> nicole, thank you very much for the update. three people are accused of shoplifting then reselling them to boston area stores. the charges are the first under retail crime. the man camping out trying to save his water park is giving up on the fight. kevin dumont chained himself to the top of the liquid planet trying to find a buyer but he's out of time. the bank plans to auction the property next week, and his

doctor believes he is developing pneumonia. he spent 17 days camped out on the slide. the makers of the movie "spotlight" are refusing to cut out a scene that a boston man claims ruined his reputation. jack dunn is the long time spokesman for boston college saying he tried to interfere with the "boston globe" investigation with the cover-up of the abusive priests. his lawyer is threatening to sue the movie-makers if they do not delete the scene but they letter. they say "courts recognized producers may compress events as they see fit as long as the events themselves are true." several events are planned across the baystate to help those in need celebrate thanksgiving. >> it's always so nice to see people coming out. this year at the women's lunch place in boston, they are

getting ready to serve a thanksgiving day feast. susie steimle is live with more. susie? >> reporter: good morning, julie. we're live inside of the church where they are getting ready for a huge feast for more than 150 women who will be here today. i want to talk to chef sherry who's been doing a lot of work right? >> i'm excited about it. >> reporter: what went into making today happen? >> we've been cutting up potatoes, and we have 27 turkeys we are going to cook. we've been making stuffing and getting things spiffied up. >> reporter: this isn't just a traditional place. they do a lot for the women. >> right. it is a daytime service for women. they can come take a nap, have a hot meal, have coffee, hang out during the day and we have advocates that work with them to find jobs, housing, and all kinds of things.
