kathryn who's likely at home cooking up a storm. danielle niles is here with the weather. anything we need to know, danielle? >> not really. >> moving on. >> i will go dig into the turkey right now. happy thanksgiving, you guys. this morning, temperatures are the door. it's 43 degrees in boston right now. wind from the south at 8 miles per hour. it adds a chill to the air. the windchill is 38 in boston. upper 20s in taunton where actually our temperatures are right now. depends on where you are, but it's been warmer than we've been in the past few mornings. we have had a deck of clouds that has moved in. these clouds may be a little stubborn at times. that's really the only weather feature. they will break apart and give way to some sunshine. ape lot of clouds -- a lot of clouds. 11:00 a.m. we're already into the 50s. debt spite some of the clouds,

i do think the skies will partially clear. we'll take you out through the end of the week, black friday tomorrow and the weekend coming up. for now, back to you. breaking news in boston. a deadly shooting at a fenway area bar. >> police heard shots and raced to the scene at who's on first. nicole has the latest. >> reporter: officers were in this area patrolling when they heard the gunshots here. they immediately responded just down here on yawkey way. you can see the stretch of road still blocked this morning. i do want to get you to video from overnight where you can get a somewhat closer look as this all happened at who's on first. i can tell you police say there was a private function happening around 2:00 around closing time when everyone was leaving. he described it was a chaotic scene with hundreds of people running. there is no suspect.

they are looking at with that. they are also making a plea to the public for help. let's listen. >> we all know that folks have cell phones and everything like that. please send us the footage. for god's sakes, it's thanksgiving and we shouldn't have these types of crimes occurring. one man dead, two people have suffered nonlife-threatening injuries. police say the man is in his -- [no audio ] america is also on alert today. we'll try to get that you information as soon as it comes back. we had a problem there with nicole jacobs. america on alert. the fbi warning police to be vigilant as millions travel and shop on this thanksgiving holiday weekend. the concern? copy cat attacks like what happened in paris. there's no credible threat right now, but all across the

something like this, i don't think twice. >> members of a new counterterrorism unit will join the extra two 00 police patrolling the streets. more than 3 million people are expected to line the parade route. demonstrators are vowing to shut down part of a city on black friday. they hit the streets and on tuesday released dash cam video of the 2014 incident that shows a white police officer shooting a black teen 16 times. the same day the officer was charged with murder of the 17- year-old. a 6-year-old boy stuck with a dirty needle outside his school. now he's being tested for diseases like hepatitis and turf. his family is understandably outraged. katie brace spoke to them. >> reporter: . advancing to the next level of his game is all charlie's mom wants him to focus on.

>> i am scared of needles, mama. >> he's only 6 and i had to test him for hiv, hepatitis b and c. >> reporter: monday he and his classmates were collecting leaves. charlie picked up a pile with a needle that left two pricks in his palm. >> we need our children to be safe at home as well as school. i don't feel safe bringing my child to school anymore. >> reporter: kristin says it wasn't until she raised concerns with the emt that they found the needle. she says a voice mail did not go out until today and the school needs to do a better job communicating. >> i think any time a child gets stuck with a needle, we need to know because how do we know that was the only one?

a low risk of catching anything. >> there shouldn't be nigh type of risk. -- any type of risk. >> reporter: the family is moving to another school and city saying the risk here is too high. >> reporter: the area was searched before the children returned to school on wednesday and they found one needle. the school district says they will educate kids about needles to make sure this doesn't happen again. katie brace, wbz news this morning. police say two men who are under arrest stormed an auto body shop and beat several people inside. the two face several counts of assault and other charges. police say they were after a 19-year-old employee at the north reading shop but also attacked several people inside with a baseball bat and crowbar. all are expected to survive. an elderly woman involved

so far, she's not facing any charges. the 88-year-old lost control of her car at a natick shopping center on tuesday and crashed mcdonald. the 73-year-old was a vietnam navy veteran and retired engineer from hopkinton. his son tells us this is a wake-up call and the state elderly drivers. imagine how frightening parallel parking would be if gun. that happened to teenagers in the middle of a driving lesson. three students were inside with the instructor getting ready to practice and the instructor said it was terrifying. >> he was very clear if the student hit his car he would shoot us. >> reporter: the instructor says when she realized the die

today, we come into the mid to upper 50s. 55 in boston. 53 in worcester. so we've had 40s a lot this week. it will be a milder day and above average. we should be in the upper 40s for this time of the year. so radar is quiet. we will be dry today. despite the fact that we have clouds around, the satellite is more doom and gloom. we have breaks that will develop. high pressure's off to our east. i think especially the second half of the afternoon and evening skies may partially clear out. overall, a pleasant day. that one from the south about 8 to 16 miles per hour. overnight tonight and tomorrow, cloud cover does feel back in. we may be mostly clear for clouds across the interior. either way, friday is dry. no weather-related issues. temperatures up around 60 degrees. you can leave the coat in the car if you are walking around. no issues with that friday into saturday.

not a ton of moisture with it. we may get pockets of showers early on saturday morning particularly along the south coast. dry. so aside from the early morning just fine. overnight tonight, 45 in heading out maybe midnight tonight, we should still be in the mid-40s cooling off at 7:00 a.m. with partial sunshine. some of us may come into the 60s tomorrow afternoon. look at this, 61 in lawrence. most of us top out about 58 to 64. this is a big ski weekend. a lot of ski places are opening up. 50s and turning much colder in the 30s. 6 to 18 inches on the pace. machine groomed now opening. a lot of spots in northern new england. accuweather seven-day forecast. brighter on sunday.

temperatures in the 40s. then another round of rain comes in not until tuesday wednesday. back to you. several events planned across the baystate to help those in need celebrate thanksgiving. >> the women's lunch plate is getting ready to serve a 150 women. susie steimle is live with a closer look at their prep. good morning, susie. >> reporter: good morning, julie and chris. that's wonderful on a day like thanksgiving to highlight the good in our community. that's what's happening here at the women ace lunch plate. chef sherry is preparing a thanksgiving feast but breakfast as well. this is something you do well. >> we do breakfast for about 150 women a day. >> reporter: is this an everyday thing some. >> every day. we start breakfast at 8:00 until 11:00 and then we start serving lunch. >> reporter: what all do you

>> traditional turkey, stuffing, sweet potato casserole, cranberry relish, cranberry sauce, rolls, i think i got everything. oh, green beans and lots and lots of pie. >> reporter: that sounds good to me. one of the things i love about this organization is the dignity piece. the motto is dignity is everything. tell me about that part. >> it means regardless of whether you are homeless or just having a bad day, we want to treat with you respect and dignity that everybody deserves. so when the ladies come in the volunteers serve them their silverware. we treat them the way would you treat a guest in your home. >> reporter: thank you, sherry. not only thanksgiving at noon but breakfast as well. so wonderful to see something so positive going on and a safe place for people to be on thanksgiving.

not everybody has that. susie steimle, wbz this >> thank you. a mother will not face charges for abandoning her baby boy at a church nativity scene. the new surveillance shows the unidentified woman in a store moments before she left her newborn son in a new york church. the district attorney says the mother will not face criminal charges because even though she didn't notify anybody about the baby, she did follow the spirit of the state's safe haven law by taking him to a warm place where she knew he'd be found. fierce winds, ripped tents full of merchandise right off the ground. this is wild. vendors at this california flea market say between the damaged property and lost business, they are out thousands of dollars. scary scene. died.

6:23 right now on your thanksgiving morning. if more than two dozen governors do reject syrian states federal aid. the u.s. office of resettlements says governors do not have the legal authority to deny benefits for services to refugees based on where they come from. doing so could stop the federal program and the money that comes with it. massachusetts governor charlie baker and new hampshire governor maggie hassan have both opposed resettlement. today many will reflect on most thankful. >> this morning, why the thing

u.s. often forget about are the ones that are most important. >> reporter: happy thanksgiving, everyone. what are we thankful for today? i could run down a long list of people. many are coming over for dinner and football later. i feel lucky to have great professional colleagues. i'm definitely thankful for them and all they do. then there are the people i don't even know who make us safe and help us thrive. this thanksgiving seems like an especially good time to be thankful for 45 little words that appear in a 224-year-old document called the bill of rights. "congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion around prohibiting the free exercise there of or abridging the freedom of speech or of the press or the right of the people peaceably to assemble and to petition the government for a redress of grievances." this first amendment to the constitution it a major part of

strip it away and we're england or france or another democracy that whatever its merit likes to give bureaucrats the power don't ever forget how crucial the first amendment is to keeping power in check whether it's political power, police power, prosecutorial power or any power. the poem can get such a warm welcome in a country where catholics were despised not long ago. and whether or not you approve of a message behind a peaceful protest. remember the rural role of protest in pulling and improving our country. right now as always, there are some who want to modify or scrap the first amendment. i'm very thankful that so many others are saying no way. exercise your free speech with

into the mix. i'll let you know when it arrives coming up. we continue to follow breaking news in boston. area bar. >> i want to get to nicole jacobs live outside who's on first bar. what can you tell us this morning? >> reporter: chris and julie, we're right here at the corner of yawkey and vanness right here at fenway park. as the morning goes on, you can see the fenway workers showing up because there are football games scheduled to take place much different scene. i want to get you right to video of who's on first. this is where police say that young man was gunned down. we know that he is in his late 20s. two other people were shot. they we're told have nonlife- threatening injuries. there were officers patrolling the area when they heard the gunfire and responded to who's

building. let's listen. >> we couldn't tell. it was a chaotic scene. several hundred people fleeing, and you couldn't pickup who's whom. whom. we will look at all of the video footage and do a day canvas to see if anybody was out. >> reporter: they are hoping that surveillance video will give them some information as to a suspect in this case because right now he says there are no suspects. right now, they are not either. the public. they know that many people have cell phones nowadays. they are hoping that someone has information that they will investigation. that's the very latest from the fenway area in boston. morning. >> thank he have you much for

follow -- thank you very much for following the story for us. americans during the holidays are expected to see big crowds over the thanksgiving weekend. there's always tight security at logan airport but extra state troopers are carrying long guns on patrol and tsa is being told to take their time screening packages and people. you'll see extra patrols mingling in and around the big crowds on black friday and beyond. at the wrentham outlets, you can expect to see police with long guns and other k-9s. the macy's day parade will run along the most iconic places with cameras, police patrols and radiation detectors. fan duel is waiting to see

their operations in new york. the state's attorney general argues they are operating illegal gambling sites. the owners say it is a game of skill and it's legal. the judge will only determine if people can play while the case goes to trial. >> subcommittee family of frank gifford says he suffered from cop cushion-related -- concussion-related brain disease. researchers discovered he had cte that could cause memory loss, depression, and dementia. roger goodell released a statement saying in part "at the nfl, we are supporting grants to the nih and boston university as well as other independent efforts to research the effects of repetitive head trauma. this work will continue as the health and safety of our players remains our highest priority.

susie steimle is live with the good work they are doing. good morning, susie. >> reporter: good morning, julie and chris. we're on newbury street where everything's happening. on thanksgiving morning, somebody has to wake up early and put the turkey in. this morning, it's 11 turkeys and chef sherry is the one doing all of the work. >> that's right. >> reporter: what else do you have? >> we have 75 pounds of potatoes we peeled for mashed potatoes. we have traditional stuffing, gravy, rolls, and butter. >> reporter: the big thing that makes it feel like a comfortable place, people sit down and talk to each other. >> right. we have a lot of volunteers. today we have probably 25 to 30 volunteers coming in. they deliver the meals to our

private function. one man in his 20s died of gunshot wounds. two others were sent to the hospital with gunshot wounds. they are expected to survive. a kindergartener had to be tested for hiv and hepatitis. he was stuck by a needle as he and classmates were working on a composting project by collecting leaves. the morning says the school sent out a voice mail to other parents. millions travel and shop on this thanksgiving holiday weekend. there are concerns about a copy cat terror attack. there will also be more patrols at shopping malls. intelligence officials do say there is no specific threat against the united states. there's extra security in new york city today for the macy's thanksgiving day parade. members of a new
