developing now at noon -- boston's thanksgiving begins with violence. a man shot and killed outside a fenway bar, three other people injured in that shooting. officers were near the ballpark last night when they heard those shots. good afternoon, thank you for joining us on this thanksgiving day. this shooting has some of the fenway entrances shut down this noon. as high school fans arrive at the ballpark for their thanksgiving day football games. nicole jacobs is live with more on the continuing to unfold investigation. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon. that's right. police were just a half block away patrolling in this area when they heard the shots ringing out this morning, very early in the morning. you can see the roadway here is back open but still a police presence. new this afternoon we know the victim in this case had plan of going to work today. as police continue to search for the person responsible.

the fenway area is known for good times. on this thanksgiving that is high school football. only yards away a crime scene where hours earlier it was chaos. >> the sounds of gunshots. >> reporter: outside of who is on first, gunfire erupts, around closing time 2:00 a.m. after a private function. hundreds disperse, four go down. >> located a young male in his late 20s suffering from a gunshot wound and pronounced on scene. >> reporter: by all indications the victim was not an active participant in the incident, innocent bystander police say. too much to bear for a grieving woman on scene. >> from what i understand the young man that was shot was a hard working person, going to go to work today. >> reporter: the mayor and commissioner are fed up with the violence. >> first of all, some people have to grow up. we're talking about grown men, thanksgiving weekend. >> reporter: this latest incident points to what the

>> it has a history of -- violent incidents. not inindicative of the area. someone shot. the area is great and safe. >> reporter: police found a gun and shell casings but the suspect got away. the investigation continues even in in the midst of fenway celebrations. police are going through surveillance video trying to get 234eu clues they can with the -- any clues they can with the investigation. the commissioner says the bar has to refer to the licensing board as to how to move forward. >> thank you for staying on top of that. also developing this noon -- boston police investigating another early morning shooting. this one happened on brighton avenue near patrons bar. officers say just after 2:00 this morning one man was shot, had to be taken to beth israel.

another expected to be ok. no word from police on other suspects. turning our attention to the weather. we couldn't have ordered up a better thanksgiving except we could be having turkey and mashed potatoes now. clouds. >> it feels great. of year. thankfully, this weather is going to stick around as we head into the end of the week tomorrow. temperatures on the mild side. first above average day we've had all week. no weather issues for black friday shopping either. a passing shower is possible, especially in the first port of saturday but we're dry for the rest of the weekend. next chance of rain after that doesn't come in, until tuesday night into the first part of wednesday. looks like that could be a pretty good soaking rain as it comes in. 56 degrees in boston now. average high should be in the upper 40s. so we're above that, dew points in the 40s, wind out of the south, typically warmer wind

that helped to boost our 53 worcester. notice doesn't matter where you 50s. 48 manchester. mid-50s for most of us. the clouds, variable. at times the sun will be out and that is the case now, back down near the cape cod canal, parts of the cape. holes in between but clouds filling back in and then they will win out in the remainder of the day in some areas. through the evening hours temperatures gradually cool through the 40s. midnight tonight anyone heading shopping? this is the midnight temperature forecast, not too bad. we'll be running in the 40s for most of us. a few clouds will fill back in as we head into tomorrow morning. i'll take you through the rain threat through the weekend. details coming up. today is a day to give thanks and give back, that's exactly what is happening in boston. several events are being held

suesthis hits close to home for some people. >> reporter: the spirit of the season. giving. be it food, money or time. it's the time of year people remember to give back. >> help the needy and homeless. they need that. >> reporter: mary scott has been helping out at the women's lunch place for nearly three decades. she decided to start off her holiday setting up for the thanksgiving feast for homeless women. >> that will cheer me up the rest of the day. being here. >> reporter: she of all people knows how important a safe space is during the holiday season. having been homeless when she first came here. >> they give you clothing, stuff you needed. everything. give you a bed. if you need it. let you rest if you're tired. from being up all night. >> people who are homeless and poor, ostracized in our community. we walk by them, we don't see them as people sometimes.

>> reporter: across town new bruins player delivered pies to the pine street shelter. >> we went to a family shelter in dorchester and there was a lot of young kids that were very excited. hope flu new fans. >> reporter: more than 75 homeless men and windchill are expected here. while a lot of people remember to donate time and energy around the holidays it's worth remembering the need is present year round. for example the pine street inn serves 9,000 men and women in boston each year. oftentimes these volunteers give back as much as they give and in some cases those that help make back on their feet make a point to pay it forward. >> they helped me too. >> reporter: in boston, susie steimell, wbz news. merge is -- america is on alert, police departments across the country tightening security after a warning from the fbi, including new york

where millions turned out for the macy's thanksgiving day parade. >> reporter: extra security watched over hello kitty and other giant balloons gliding down the west side of new york city. several million people lined the streets for the 89th annual macy's thanksgiving day parade. >> we're excited. the weather is perfect. >> reporter: spectators waited in long lines as police checked bags but most took the heavy police presence in stride. >> i've noticed a lot of the police officers having the high powered rifles. pretty secure. i feel comfortable. >> reporter: the nypd put hundreds of additional officers on duty including plainclothes police in the crowd making sure everyone has a good time and gets home safely. >> we certainly encourage people to get out and live your lives, free of fear, unfortunately we're in a world where you have to be aware. >> reporter: law enforcement across the nation tightened

paris attacks that killed 130 people. even though there's no known credible threat in the u.s. president obama urged all americans to enjoy the holidays but remain vigilant. >> we're taking every possible step to keep our homeland safe. >> reporter: officials say black friday shoppers can also expect to see more police on duty. new this noon -- for the first time in nearly a week the alert level in brussels has been lowered. this as police carry out another raid searching for two attacks. officers are also investigating a suspicious package delivered to a brussels mosque. authorities say it contained white powder, now being analyzed but it's not believed to be radioactive. meanwhile, pope francis is on a historic trip to africa. he celebrated mass today at the university of nairobi in kenya. he's meeting with christian and muslim leaders along the way and will visit two other

african nations in the next few days. a young boston boy now being tested for hiv, hepatitis and several other diseases after he was stuck with a dirty needle outside of his school. on monday the 6-year-old was collecting leaves with his classmates for a composting project when he was hit with that needle outside at ellis elementary school in roxbury. his mom says the school was slow to respond and didn't send out a warning to other parents until yesterday. >> i think any parent would want to know if a child got jabbed with a needle, how would you know it's the only one? >> doctors say the boy is at low risk of cop tracting anything but the mother says the risk in boston is too high so she pulled herp son out of school -- her son out of school. imagine how frightening parallel parking would be if someone threatened you with a gun while practicing? it happened in a driving lesson. three students were getting

ready to practice when a man knocked on the window and threatened them. the instructor says it was terrifying. >> he was very clear, if i -- if the student hit his car he would shoot us. >> the instructor says when she realized the guy actually had a gun she and the teens drove away and dialed 911. police caught up with this man, 21-year-old joseph duvin and charged him with criminal threatening. two men under arrest for a vicious attack. police say they stormed a north reading auto body shop looking for one employee but also went after sweferl people inside hitting them with a baseball bat and crowbar. all expected to be ok. the pats listing 14 players on the injury report yesterday. amendola one of them. he reportedly has a sprained knee, he was at the walkthrough yesterday but didn't

welcome back. the man who spent weeks camping out trying to save his water park now giving up that fight. kevin do -- dumon chained himself at the top of the water slide called liquid planet to try to find a buyer. he said he's now out of time and the bank plans to auction off the property next week. his doctor believes he's developing pneumonia. he spent 17 days camped out on the slide. the family of frank gifford says the late pro football hall of famer suffered from concussion-related brain disease. when gifford passed away in august his family donated his brain to science. researchers discovered he had cte, a condition caused by a repeated head trauma that could cause memory loss, depression

let's check the weather now on this thanksgiving. a lot of people inside slaving away over the hot oven getting that turkey just perfect. >> this morning i had asked thanksgiving? we've had 70s, we've had teens, we've had snow, we've had rain. what would you least -- what would you like to have? you would be surprised at the results. >> ok. it was totally split. they wanted snow. the other half said 70s. >> i'm into snow for christmas but it's a little early. >> i was surprised though, like a split -- like camp in new england. today's in the middle 50s, beautiful, been such a chilly start to the week. in fact our temperatures were running in the 40s. beautiful out there.

with is a wind and yeah, a little bit of a breeze, a couple of clouds as well. temperatures now are in the 50s, here's the current wind gusts. some clouds over the city of boston but the sun has been out as well. winds gusting over 20 miles per hour. plymouth back to the cape and islands. that wind from the south southeast, typically a warmer wind direction gusting near 30 miles per hour, worcester and fitchburg. yes, there's a breeze but it's dragging in the mild air. 56 boston. keep in mind we should be in the upper 40s this time of year. we're 49 nashua where the clouds are a little thicker. if we get any breaks of sunshine it's definitely helping us out. 53 worcester. 58 taunton and middle 50s on the cape and islands as well. the cloud cover has been variable, literally. the sun has been coming out in full force. then the clouds fill back in. this deck of clouds is getting a little thicker here. we've had high thin ones and almost a deck that is kind of

quiet up and down the eastern seaboard. then we run into ice, rain and snow. it's been active from the central part of the country from northern texas, to oklahoma, kansas, nebraska, well. there is where the travel related issues are today. the same front in the central united states will eventually bring us the threat for a couple of showers, rain showers by the time we get to friday night into early saturday. let's take you through the hour by hour forecast. as you're digesting that food this evening, it's looking fine. temperatures are going to cruise back into the 40s this evening. if you're heading out at midnight tonight, not the worried about any travel issues, building friday, shopping tomorrow looking good, up around 60. cold front comes in friday night. saturday morning a stray shower or two. particularly on the south coast. that is the greatest risk saturday morning until midday. a couple of showers may linger saturday on nantucket, then high pressure builds in, chilly air for the weekend.

welcome back. today we're getting a closer look at what it takes to put together the macy's thanksgiving day parade. and the iconic balloons that you see. check out this time lapse video here showing the hello kitty balloon getting inflated. you can see it takes dozens of people to actually end up getting the balloon up in the air. >> then if the wind is blowing it makes it a little more difficult. can you imagine trying to hold you up one of those with the wind blowing? >> there was a clip on-line today, hilarious watching them try to hold the balloon in place. >> it's hard work. a little breezy for us right now but it's dragging in the warm air. it's actually pretty nice, in the 50s, lower 60s for some of us. we turn cooler again this weekend.
