great to have you with us, i'm katherine houser. >> it's time to flip the calendar. if you still use a calendar. >> you have your phone, yeah, calendar phone. it's true. >> i got the new one, too. >> i got a lot to do, shopping. i'm just realizing. >> we need to check our forecast with danielle. good morning. >> i have three calendars at home that i had to flip. i'm going to have to do that later today. we turned the calendar and it's a cool start this morning. feeling like december. the temperature in boston is 34 degrees. the dew point is in the 20s and the wind has gone calm in the city. we have frost out there and it is thick in spots. leave an extra couple minutes to warm up the car. 20s to pittsburgh, 22 in norwood right now. that will have implications on the rain that is moving in. you notice the leading edges

there may be a couple spots, particularly west of wuster county. a freezing rain advisory has been post #-d ed for the western part of the state. for the rest of us, temperatures slowly rise. we should stay mostly dry for your commute. 42 by lunchtime. a chilly rain with pockets of showers that become steadier. we have a damp couple of days here. we're going to time out the rain hour by hour in a couple of minutes. >> a second arrest in the theft of high powered weapons from an armory. a door chester woman now charged with having an assault rifle. that weapon capable of shooting hundreds of bullets every minute. >> the fbi is offering a reward to get them back. kate meryl has more.

stolen machine gun that the fbi has been searching for. the assault rifle was tracked down thanks to this dorchester woman's cell phone. she is snapping these pictures of the stolen gun. those are her unique hand tattoos seen holding the gun. they are two of the stolen guns from the armory break in back in november. investigators say this surveillance video snow shows james morales breaking in and taking off with 16 weapons. he was later busted in new york and three of the weapons were found by a homeless man in a bag. but not all were recovered. but using tracking information from the pictures found on bigby's phone, the fbi came to this home in dorchester where they say the pictures were taken. inside, they found the red chef place mats seen here in the weapons pictures, but no weapons. we tried to speak with someone at the home on monday night,

>> i'm looking for ashley. >> but her former address, the new tenant didn't want to talk about her or her arrest. the missing machine gun, however, was later found in dorchester and bigby was arrested on an outstanding warrant. now has been charged with lying and unlawful possession of that machine gun. but there are still more guns out there. so a $15,000 reward is being offered to get them off the street. as for bigby, she is being held by u.s. marshals until her next hearing on thursday. wbz, kate merrill. >> police are hopes the deer mystery. jamie robertson was seen on new year's day in 2014. the 27-year-old was released from a short stay in jail. two men took him for what they test. as robertson's parents still

believe local hunters can help. >> i know it's a needle in a hay stack, but stranger things have happened. hunters go to areas where the general public is not, which is an area you might see a body. >> they are determined to bring our son home to us. >> four men, including a former police officer have been charged in connection with robertson's disappearance. charges have not been upgraded to murder because robertson's remains have never been found. boston marathon bomber returns to federal court today. his attorneys want half of his conviction tossed out. good morning, bri. >> tsarnaev's lawyers are hoping a new supreme court ruling can help convince the judge to grant a new trial. the supreme court ruling requires that 15 of tsarnaev's convictions be tossed out, but they say those 15 counts likely

to impose the death penalty. therefore, tsarnaev should get another chance at the penalty phase. tsarnaev is in colorado and will not be present for that court hearing in boston today. jahar and tamerlan planted bombs in 2013 and killed four people. some of the crimes are being called into question because in june, the supreme court declared the legal definition of a crime of violence as unconstitutionally vague. now still on the table as well, if tsarnaev should get a new trial because jurors in boston could not be impartial, though the judge has denied that request before. and as if that's not already a lot to cover, prosecutors will argue their motion, the judge is not typically someone who rules immediately, so it could be weeks before we know his decision on all of this. chris, back to you. >> thank you very much. today the defense begins

trial of a teenager charged with killing his math teacher. the prosecution rested its case yesterday. phillip is charged with raping and killing william back in 2013. attorneys asked to dismiss one of two rape charges against him. the judge is expected to rule on that today. the defense admits chism killed him, but argues he was insane at the time. jurors are expected to visit crime scene. >> a shooting outside a high school under investigation this morning. a teen shot in the hand near the o'brian school. the teen is expected to be okay. the shooting forced three schools into lockdown yesterday. police believe two teens knew each other. so far, no arrests have been made. >> the man charged with killing a police officer and two others at a planned parenthood clinic in colorado could face more charges. robert lewis dear made a brief court appearance yesterday.

two people who were escorting police officer. melrose. the funeral will be held for swasey on friday in colorado. a republican poll leader, hampshire. the billionaire developer will valley tonight. trump has begun to focus attention on chris cristie, the new jersey governor won the endorsement of the new newspaper there. and that caught the attention of trump who launched a shot at cristie on twitter. trump posted quote, how is chris cristie running the state of new jersey, which is deeply troubled when he is spending all his time in new hampshire? new jerseyens not happy. cristie will continue campaigning in new hampshire today with stops at a cafe in london. he will also hold a drug recovery round table in concord. >> a strong show of support for hillary clinton's campaign from

>> but it was a good holiday. >> jill, we'll see you in an hour, thank you very much. >> i know, the left over, the turkey soup, you know, giving the left overs new life. not good stuff, the weather. it's kind of chilly. >> it's not great to start december. we flipped the calendar and it's going to be a chilly, damp start to the month. but, there's no snow in sight. at least through mid december right now. there may be a couple flakes here or there, but no big flakes on the horizon. it looks like the sun is going to be shining and temperatures should be near normal. 34 degrees in boston. the wind is calm, the dew points in the 20s. the air is dry and temperatures are coldest well north and west of boston. it's 19 in keene right now. a lot of communities are running in the 20s. due to the fact that the clouds have taken longer to thicken up here this morning. out ahead of the clouds, we have clear skies.

then we run into showers. both rain and eventually some snow, but not until you get back towards the midwest. look at the upper level low spinning here. eventually this will slide east and impact our weather. to our south, areas of rain that extend from new york back down to the tennessee river valley. so this area of moisture is going to be moving in our direction here during the day today. so high pressure slipping off the coastline. there may be very light pockets of freezing rain and freezing drizzle in western massachusetts, northwest connecticut, and back through eastern new york this morning until midday. for the rest of us, our temperatures should gradually rise and that means it's a chilly area of showers through the afternoon. notice by the evening there may be a couple pockets that we have to watch out for. it's generally areas of steady, light rain for your evening commute. tomorrow morning, we start mainly dry, but another round of moisture comes in. so areas of showers fill back in tomorrow.

evening commute again and then as we head into thursday, this is the predawn hours, we should have areas of rain shipping out of here. notice a couple wet snow flakes may mix in. either way, it doesn't look like accumulation is expected. high temperatures today, not as chilly as yesterday. upper 30s for highs. most of us should manage to sneak into the upper 40s. overnight tonight, we drop back into the 30s. it's going to be a cold rain. 42 in the city of boston. that rain should taper off for the morning commute tomorrow, but still have the wet weather gear with you because the showers are going to fill back in. high temperatures topping out in the upper 40s, some 50s along the coast. accuweather, some early morning showers. a blustery feel and turn brighter to end the week and the weekend a little bit of a warming trend we should be 45 to 50 with plenty of sunshine. >> sounds good. on the back end. >> right. >> thank you very much, danielle.

>> a boston medical center program trying to break the cycle and show people a way out. wbz's jim armstrong has the story. >> thomas and kendall have known a lot of pain in their 24 years. that's part of why they've been friends for more than a decade. the aspiring rappers shared something that could have ended their lives. >> in the parking lot and like the shooter was literally right there. if he wanted to kill me, he could have done that. >> instead, he changed them. someone sprayed bullets into the crowd sending both men to the er at the boston medical center. at just about the lowest point in their young lives. >> that's the greatest opportunity to break a cycle. >> it's at that point, advocates from bmc's violence intervention advocacy program showed up at their bedsides, offered to stay by their sides. >> i'm an aunt, i'm a cousin,

>> each victim turned survivor gets a mentor. someone who survived the streets themselves to guide the way. >> we're in the community trying to make it better than it is now. >> how much is that going to be out of your paycheck? >> basically, david came to me said i could help with everything. >> for these two men, the constant encouragement works, as does the fear their own kids could end up victims, too, without their dads as role models. >> my son followed my footsteps. that's not the steps i want them to follow. i want him to grow up to be something better than that. >> talk about breaking the cycle of violence, that is the type of thinking they try to encourage. and long-term, when city leaders are trying to find ways to break the cycle, they hope they'll consider their program as key to the solution. in the satellite center, jim armstrong, wbz news. >> ahead, a local animal rescue group needs your help. >> dozens of cats just rescued and now looking for a good home.

a dorchester woman is now charged with unlawful possession of an m-4 assault rifle. this is 26-year-old, ashley bigsby. she's accused of lying to the fbi. james morales was arrested last month and charged with stealing 16 weapons from the armory. six m-11 pistols are still missing and the fbi is offering a $15,000 reward for their recovery. police are hoping the deer hunt at the blue hills reservation helps them crack a nearly two-year-old mystery. jamie robertson was seen in 2014. the 37-year-old had just been released from a short stay in jail. two men claiming to be constables took them for a court ordered drug test. investigators want hunters to be on the lookout for any trace of him. >> americans hit the stores and the web on black friday and cybermonday. today is is the day to hit up your heart. today's giving tuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back to charities. adrian lost part of her leg in
