5:00, i'm chris mackinnon. >> and i'm katherine houser. >> it's chilly and it's going to be rainy, too. >> danielle, let's get all the details. >> steadier rain arrives this evening, but it's a damp and chilly start to the month of december. 32 in boston right now. but notice widespread 20s all the way down to the cape this morning and we've gotten this cold because the skies are partially clear. the clouds thicken up across connecticut and then back in through eastern new york and showers. notice a little bit of pink here showing up in the radar. there may be light pockets of freezing rain in western massachusetts and that's why we have a freezing rain advisory from 6:00 a.m. until noontime today. west of wuster county. use precaution as traveling. for the rest of us, the clouds thicken up, our temperatures gradually rise and it's after late morning that we get areas

because they can't find his remains. >> live this morning with more. good morning, nicole. >> good morning to you, katherine. the d.a. calls it perhaps a needle in a hay stack. for the first time in 120 years, hunters have special access to blue hills and authorities are asking them to be on the lookout for this man. a parent's sweet memories. >> jamie was awesome. >> of their 27-year-old son, jamie. >> it doesn't get better. it doesn't get better. >> he was jenny and david robertson's second of four sons not seen for nearly two years. >> our last memory is him going up the street and the back of his car. >> jamie had recently spent time in jail, on new year's day 2014, men he thought were constables showing up with words of an on announced drug test did not seem strange.

badges. they have guns. paperwork. returned. a former police officer is one disappearance. >> hunters are likely to go to not. >> perhaps those blue hills deer hunters now taking to the woods for game could discover what this family has been waiting for. >> i think they are determined to bring our son home to us. >> we are taking a live look now at many hunters checking in for what is now day two of their access to those special areas of blue hills. again, authorities say it might seem a little odd, but they are hoping they can help them out and just keep a watchful eye while they are hunting. nicole jacobs, wbz this morning.

a second arrest in the theft of armory. charged with having one of the assault rifles that was taken. the weapon capable of shooting hundreds of bullets a minute. >> six weapons are missing and the fbi is offering a reward to get them back. susie is live for us in our satellite center with a closer look at the evidence that led to this newest arrest. >> good morning katherine and chris. police say it was all thanks to images taken on this woman's cell phone that helped them arrest her and track down this rifle. she's behind bars facing some very serious charges. >> ten of 16 weapons stolen from a wuster armory has been recovered and a second person is in police custody. 26-year-old took this picture on her cell phone of one of the stolen assault rifles. it is her unique hand tattoos that gave her away. former army reservist was arrested for the original theft back in november.

surveillance video loading the high powered weapons into his car. ashley spoke with fbi agents, but denied knowledge of the theft. a warrant to search her cell phone revealed these pictures were taken at this page street home in dorchester. police found the red chef place mats at that address. but it's unclear where the rifle was discovered. we tried to speak with someone at that home, but no one came to the door. bigsby could be facing ten years in prison. she is charged with lying to investigators and unlawful possession of the assault rifle. she is being held by u.s. on thursday. there are still six missing weapons that were taken from that armory and a $15,000 reward for information that could lead to the discovery of wbz this morning. >> thank very much.

marathon bomber, tsarnaev, returns to court today. his attorney want a new trial and want half the convictions thrown out. good morning, bri. >> tsarnaev's lawyers are hoping a new supreme court ruling can help convince the judge to grant a new trial. the defense team says the supreme court ruling requires that 15 of his convictions be tossed out, but they say those 15 counts likely influence the jury's decision to impose the death penalty on other counts. therefore, they argue tsarnaev should get another chance at the penalty phase. tsarnaev will not be at the court hearing in boston today. he's at a super max prison in colorado. jahar and his brother, tamerlan, planted bombs in 2013 and killed four people. some of the crimes he is convicted of are being called into question because in june, the supreme court declared the legal definition of a crime of violence unconstitutionally

still on the table as well, if tsarnaev should get a new trial because jurors could not be impartial, the judge has denied that request before. as if that's not already a lot to cover, prosecutors will also argue their motion ordering tsarnaev to pay restitution to the victims. the judge is not typically someone who rules immediately, so it could be weeks before we know his decision on all of this. chris, back to you. >> thank you very much. today the defense begins presenting its case in the trial of a teenager charged with killing his math teacher. the prosecution rested its case yesterday, phil phillip is convicted of murdering -- asked that one of two rape charges against him be dismissed. the judge is expected to rule on that today. the defense admits chism killed ritzer, but using an insanity defense. jurors are expected to visit the crime scene. >> it is 5:08 right now.

police officer and two others at a planned parenthood clinic in colorado could soon be facing more charges. robert lewis dear was charged with first-degree murder during a brief court appearance yesterday. dear is accused of shooting people who were escorting others to the clinic and a police officer who responded to the scene. that officer is garrett swasey. the funeral will be held on friday in colorado. >> a school scare in roxbury. it happened yesterday in a park across the street from the school of mathematics. a teen was shot in the hand and is expected to be okay. nearby schools were put into lockdown. students say it was scary to hear gun shots in the middle of the day. >> teacher came in the hallway and told us to close our windows. at that point, we thought they were in the building. >> we had to be super quiet. everybody on the certain side

door had to move to the other side of the room. it was kind of scary. >> the two young mening involved likely knew each other. >> a boston hospital where so many shuting victims are treated are trying to stop @ cycle of violence. boston medical center developed an advocacy program. they guide and encourage the victims with steps to help them and their families. >> especially patients with children. they can see a different mom and dad than they did before they got injured or hurt. okay, dad has more time now. mom is going back to school. and it trickles out. >> and those in the program realize their own kids could become victims and it's important to be role models for their children. >> the mbta could be in for cuts.

we have gotten so cold because the skies stayed clear. a few high, thin clouds across connecticut. just a touch of light freezing rain starting to develop here as well in the winterized radar. because it's so cold, there may be icy patches that develop in those areas, western massachusetts, and northwest connecticut. down to the south, more moisture and to our west, there are areas of snow. big upper level low. that will play a role in our weather, too, by the time we week. so the dry air is trying to hang on this morning. it's not going to win out. the clouds will thicken up with to midday. there may be a couple patches outside of 495, south west new hampshire, a couple icy spots. use caution, keep a close eye the morning hours. by the afternoon and evening, areas of rain become steadier. rain overnight tonight will be a chilly, raw feel.

your morning commute. but another area of low pressure comes by, showers redevelop, turn to steadier rain tomorrow late afternoon and evening. that rain la continue at times wednesday night. thursday early in the morning, there will be areas of showers. notice as the cold air comes in, it may end as a couple of wet snow flakes on thursday. i'm not anticipating any accumulation. i don't want you to be caught off guard if you see a few snow flakes. highs today not as cold as yelled, but still below average. topping out in the mid to low 40s. a chilly rain around 40 in boston. mid 30s in some of the suburbs. high temperatures tomorrow, 45 to 50. another round of showers and steadier rain moves in. gusts to 40 miles per hour. turning brighter to end the week. friday, saturday, sunday, even the start of next week looking good.

pats lost to the broncos still stings, but that's in the past. more importantly, the good news on ron gronkowski trumps everything. he took a low hit late in the game. looks like he had another season ending knee injury. it's just a sprain. no major damage. he is likely to miss a few games and playing status will be a pain tolerance issue. bill belichick didn't have any update yesterday. >> i know everybody wants an instant analysis. but it's more important to be right than jump in and start talking about a lot of stuff that is inaccurate. of course when we're hoping for the best. >> more injury news, left the game late in the first half and never returned. multiple reports say the pattings linebacker has a sprained -- also the pats cut wide receiver with a cost -- opened the door for denver to rally. he could end up back on the practice squad.

according to the report, profoundly inept tea officials never bothered to figure out how much the project would cost. instead, out sourcing control to a construction named white scanza, under a process that will allow the price tag to be negotiated as the project is under way. placing control essentially at the whim of the contractor. this was fun as an innovative process, although it must seem like sheer nonsense to any nonfool who has ever hired a contractor and knows you at least agree on an estimate up front. bell with me. so i did what the mbta should have done at the start of this phi i can't fiasco, guess what they were associated with? that's right, the big dig. back in 2002, keywit and their partners settled the whistle

in fact, we have freezing rain massachusetts. that. all it takes is a trace of freezing rain to really slicken up the roads. so northwest connecticut, eastern new york, and then western massachusetts outside, there's a low to moderate risk of that freezing rain advisory potentially being expanded into wuster county. because our temperatures are so cold, they will gradually rise. a lot of 20s on the map and 19 in keen. so as the precipitation moves in, cold enough, that some of it may start as a touch of freezing rain. in fact, you could see it on the winterized radar into southern birkshire county. otherwise, a lot of cold air in place. it will take time for showers to move in. in fact, for your morning up. sunrise coming up at 6:53. midday lunch hour, and temperatures should manage to

2014 and now presumed dead. the 37-year-old had just been released from a short stay in jail. two men claiming they were constables took him for what they said was a court ordered drug test. investigators want hunters to be on the lookout for any trace of him. a second arrest in the theft of high powered weapons from an armory. a dorchester woman is charged with unlawful possession of an m4 assault rifle and lying to the fbi. 26-year-old, ashley bigby is being held by u.s. marshals until her next hearing on thursday. former army reservist was arrested last month and charged with stealing 16 weapons from @ armory. six pistols are still missing. a close call for two women and two children. take a look at this surveillance camera. captured this frightening scene. lets the group cross the street here. but that's when the truck rear ended the suv, sending it flying toward the group.

back to the sidewalk safely. and a close call for a driver in vermont when this post went right through the windshield. the driver says a pickup truck forced him off i-90 in westminster and he hit the post. he wasn't badly hurt, but the driver of the truck just kept on going. police are now looking for anyone who may have seen this crash. >> over to campaign 2016, republican poll leader is back in new hampshire. the billionaire developer will rally supporters and waterville valley tonight. trump has kept his focus his attention on chris cristie, the new jersey governor, won the endorsement of the union leader newspaper. and that caught the attention of trump, who launched a shot of cristie on twitter. how is chris cristie running the state of new jersey, which is deeply troubled when he is spending all of his time in new hampshire? cristie will continue

the month. winter begins december 21, least daylight, nine hours, 4 minutes. yes, that s word, average snow december is 9 inches. you remember last year, we didn't have much and the flood gates opened up. we are waiting on snow flakes. for us this morning, it's a school. we're going to have some showers on the way for the end of school. temperatures up around 40 degrees, but definitely a chilly feel. only 19 in nashua. 32 in the city of boston. widespread 20s down to the cape and the islands. look at this. we manage to gradually rise, not as chilly, but still only in the upper 30s for highs from pittsburgh to gaffrey. now, once the sun comes up this morning, we'll have a touch of filtered sunshine, then the clouds are going to win out

the dry air is trying to hang on, it's having a tough time doing it. the clouds will win out and eventually some showers will work in our direction. just a touch of light freezing rain may come down in western massachusetts and northwest connecticut. may slow you down a little bit. all it takes is a trace of freezing rain to slicken the roads. there's more moisture to our south and there are those areas of snow still continuing in parts of north and south dakota through minnesota as well. so that big upper level low will spin in our direction by the time we get into wednesday night and thursday. for now, high pressure slipping off the coastline. the showers arrive. west to east during the late morning and midday for most of us. they will be with us scattered in nature during the afternoon. i do anticipate steadier areas of rain for your evening commute. tomorrow morning, maybe a mostly dry start, the lulls that come in, but there will be areas of rain tomorrow. have the wet weather gear with you again.

rain continue wednesday night into early on thursday morning. the back edge could end as a couple wet snow flakes. i don't want you to be caught off guard. overnight tonight, areas of rain, chilly and raw. temperatures manage to keep them up near 50 with pockets of rain redeveloping. the sun breaks back out and right now the weekend is looking fantastic. 45 to 50 with sunshine. it will stay that way to start next week. traffic and weather together. >> most of the slowdowns to the south of the city, but we are starting to see delays to the north as well. les start with the expressway northbound, back to the split. 128 southbound, you're going to hang up between the split and route 3 north, sluggish between union street and the dreaded split. from the north, two slow pockets of 93 southbound.
