smoke billowed high in the air in this quiet bedford enabled as -- neighborhood as the firefighters battled the flame. family and friends called the firefighters around 12:30 to report smoke. >> the response time was like 4- 5 minutes. there was smoke in the roof line of the house. >> reporter: but crews got more than they bargained for in the concealed space in the attic. >> reporter: more than 50 firefighters sped to the scene as the blaze quickly spread through the roof. on top of that, an added challenge, water. >> this is a rural area for us. we have to shuttle the water in tankers. >> reporter: thankfully, everyone escaped unharmed but

>> thank you. lawyers for the marathon bomber are trying to get him a few trial. they are saying that just days after the sentencing, a law concerning violent crimes were over-ly broad and they are saying that tainted the sentence. they are saying that he didn't get a fair trial because they could about get a fair jury in boston. phillip chism's character was on trial today in the murder trial. chism's former classmates and teammate were called to the stand as well as his family. >> he is my beloved grandson. very, very quiet and a beautiful soul.

the meteorologist fall is through november. that's wrapping up. a big system across canada and mexico and the tail of moisture goes back into the pacific. tonight. we have seen pockets of freezing drizzle as you work your way across new hampshire and into northern vermont. pockets of the freezing rain on the sidewalks and the back decks so be really caution if you are stepping out on the back deck tonight. other wise, we are watching a steady rainfall across massachusetts tonight. reaching over into the area getting the rainfall. we move over toward the cape. over main street, route 6, all wet drives this evening. that's going to be the trend here. temperatures look very much like winter time.

the milder air. nantucket at 49 degrees, but the colder air locked in north and west. we should avoid any significant travel issues, but watch for the icing spots near southern new hampshire. for the most part, it's areas of rain, it's raw, the temperatures in the 30s. a little bit milder near central massachusetts. tomorrow, areas of showers and mist. not expecting wider spread rainfall. the rain will fill back in tomorrow afternoon and evening. the idea for tomorrow, it's an easy one, it will be chilly, it will be wet. high temperatures by late in the day reaching in the 50s south and east of boston, north and west of the city low 40s again. we have had a wet evening commute out there. tomorrow morning still damp, but i think the steadiest rainfall is tomorrow evening

that will be the slowest one out there. the area of low pressure wraps up on thursday bringing a decent rainfall. for us, it brings a gusty wind. winds in the 30 miles per hour range on thursday and a couple l of the gusts could top 40 miles per hour. after that, high pressure is in control for friday and into the weekend. pretty seasonal temperatures on wednesday, thursday friday and saturday. we rise into the 50s by the time sunday rolls around. >> pretty nice, erik, thank you so much. tonight, big news for the sox, david price is coming to boston. >> yeah, the sox are already doing some holiday shopping and all it cost was $217 million. >> reporter: yeah, a good price.
