good morning, it is 4:30 a.m. right now. a lot to get to this morning. it is thursday, december 3rd. i am catherine houser. >> and fog out there as well. i saw that coming in, pamela. yes, the fog is right arnold the boston area and areas to the north. but first, we still have showers here. left overshowers are moving through the south coast, the cape, the island. just a little spotty rain this morning. temperatures are in the 40s right now. we will stay in the 40s and we will keep the fog around for the next few hours as well. visibility, nashua to lawrence, half a mile or less with some lighter fog to the south here in boston and the cape and islands. once we get past the lunch hour, the rain moves out, the fog moves out too, we have partial clearing with windy conditions ahead. but, a big dry stretch on the way and we check out the weekend forecast in just a bit.

we start with breaking news on that mass shooting in california. a short time ago, a man and woman identified two suspects. >> right now, the investigators are searching the home linked to the suspects, 28-year-old say fa and 37--syed rizwan farook and 27-year-old tashfeen malik. >> and police are looking into reports that farook had a workplace dispute but they are still not ruling out terrorism right now. and this morning a coworker of the suspect says that farook spent some time in syria this spring. and returned with a life. >> here is the--with a wife. >> here is the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: police say that the shooters, 27-year-old syed rizwan farook and his wife, 27- year-old tashfeen malik were

they shot 1 people in san bernardino. as part of the investigation, police were watching a resident. farook's brother-in-law spoke to him just about a week ago. >> we are all shocked. we don't know this was going to happen. >> reporter: police say that farook was a county employee and had been at a holiday gathering, but left angry. witnesses say that the suspects, armed with assault rifles and handguns, returned to the social services building wednesday morning and opened fire. >> they came prepared to do what they did, as if they were on a mission. >> reporter: workers locked themselves in offices and sent texts. others calls loved ones. >> i just told them to make sure their cell phones were off, do not make noise. turned an intersection into a injured. >> i called her and she told me

seventh mass shooting in the united states within the past five months. police have now cleared the social services building where they found three explosive devices. cbs news, san bernardino, california. >> and one officer was shot when the police got into that gunfight with the suspects. but is expected to recover. police retained a third person near the scene but don't know if he is connected to the case. breaking overnight, the brother-in-law of syed rizwan farook is speaking out and now we have a closer look. good morning, bree. >> brood morning, catherine, he is married to the sister of syed rizwan farook spoke to reporters in anaheim. kahn last spoke to that fa- -spoke to farook about a week ago. >> i just cannot express how

happened today, i mean, i [ inaudible ] lost their life. very sad that you know, people lost their life. i wish [ inaudible ] and again, i am in shock that something like this could happen. we stand in solidarity [ inaudible ] or mind set to led to such terrible acts. there is absolutely nothing to justify and we stand in mourning and sadness for what happened and we pray for the were injured. >> kahn says that photos on the internet are not of the suspects but of the brother who was at work at the time of the shooting . syed rizwan farook is an american citizen. >> yes, swat teams in water

shutting down entire neighborhoods before arresting dzhokhar tsarnev. >> reporter: in boston, the training, specially for an active shooter never ends. in fact, boston ems trains with the boston police a lot. ems is there with officers w swat, sweeping rooms and stairwells, getting to victims quickly is important. >> we do drills, just rapid extrication, rapid treatment of people getting involved and trying to move onto that transport. >> i don't know that anybody can be 100% prepared for an event like that. i think it is probably the one, the one that keeps us up at night. >> reporter: boston medical center trains for events like this all the time? i think boston has the luxury

hospital group with an established procedure for emergency response. >> reporter: as was evidence following the marathon when numb of the 260 men, women, and children who died at the emergency rooms died. there were lessons learned then and after san bernardino, there will be new teaching moments. boston ems is going meet with ems in other cities impacted by the tragedies, months, years later to learn what worked and what did not. >> of course, we will bring you any new information on air and online when we get it. coming up in about 15 minutes, president obama's response to the mass shooting and how it is debate. back here at home a threat of gun violence against some cambridge middle school.

open today--say schools will be open today. also, extra security measure. the superintendent says that the e-mail threat was directed at the amigos school, putnam avenue upper school, and vac kaitlyn lane upper school. police will be there at all public schools today. also, breaking news out of south africa, an appeals court has found oscar pistorius guilty of murder. the--pistorius is currently under howls arrest after spending a year of his five year sentence in jail. oscar pistorius will now have to return to court for a new sentence. developing news this morning, an american civilian is being held in afghanistan by militants linked to the taliban. the man being held near pakistan.

details about his capture are not being released just yet. more news to tell you about, brissen launches their first air strikes against isis in syria. the british war planes took off just moments after parliament authorized the strikes. they have already targeted isis in iraq. jurors will have the day off in the phillip chisolm murder trial but the judge is going to hear testimony from a psychiatrist. yesterday jurors visited the high school where the murder happened. classes were dismissed early. they also saw the trail behind the school where her body was found. the defense is saying that chisolm was insane. it is 4:39 a.m. right now on your thursday morning. governor charlie baker is giving the nbta the thumbings up saying the ayenisei is better pray--agency is better

the north and east. so from chatham to sandwich, still dealing with the rain drops falling from the sky. hour by hour forecast, in fact, shows that we completely dry out in all locations, other than the fog and some areas of drizzle, we cannot rule that out. this afternoon, in the hour by hour, we could be dealing with a few flurries n western massachusetts and into our new hampshire areas here. but northern new england is actually getting snow accumulation. ski resorts are happy about that. for us, we are dry. no worries tonight and clearing conditions as the day goes on. however, it will get windy, winds gusting between 030- --between 30-40 miles per hour. 3:00 p.m., 20-30-mile per hour guests for most of us from the west, northwest. and that this is key. it is going to help to dry us

but there is still good going on in the world. >> a new hampshire police officer responding to a shoplifting call discovered something unexpected. lisa molar has the story. >> reporter: among isles stacked with cartons and cans a mother's misfortune met with humanity. >> it is just not something that you can expect from anybody. >> reporter: enter the ocean state [ inaudible ] on november 1, when employees saw a woman shoplifting and called the police. >> he got a plate number, tracked down the suspect. >> reporter: just a typical investigation, officer mike found the woman, but tenderness set in when he learned what she why. >> he realized what she had stolen were things for a birthday cake for which she stated was for her daughter's birthday. >> reporter: a little more than crisco and vanilla frosting.

the police will be at all cambridge public schools today. coming up at 5:00 p.m., what the parents need to know before taking their children to school. also, breaking news out of california, two suspects believed to be responsible for that mass shooting are dead 56 a shootout with the police. >> this is picture of syed rizwan farook. farook and tashfeen malik shot more than two dunsen people at a social services center in san bernardino, california burring a holiday party. right now, the investigators don't what triggered the shooting. they are looking into a chance that a work police dispute triggered it. the two were married and had a baby. a third person has also been detained but it is unclear if the person was involved. president obama talked to cbs news about that california
