breaking news this noon, an investigation under way, and a scare on the mvpa, the redline train takes off without a conductor on board, taking a live look, we are waiting to here right now to hear from governor baker, that inbound train blew past three stations before the power was shit down and that train came to a stop, i'm chris mckin non- and i'm kathryn hauser, the t is trying to figure out exactly how this happened. the fbi is aware of the incident, investigators were combing the tracks near the brain tree station, again we have live team coverage for you this noon. we begin with nichole jacobs, what can you tell us. >> reporter: kathryn we are live where that train finally came to a stop at the jfk u mass station, part of the investigation is trying to determine if any of those

with causing this bizarre yet frightening ordeal. a run away train making a go just after 6:00 a.m. thursday, the redline headed north to north quincy station with no operator on board. sources tells wbz the nbta operator got off the train for a repair but was subsequently hit by it, it continued rolling on, we are told, at unknown speeds ignoring all station stops, it wasn't until operations crews depowered the rail that eventually it came to a halt. of course creating severe redline delays. nbta manager says passengers safety is the highest priority, and this highly troubling incident is under investigation by transit police detectives. in the meantime governor charlie baker's office is also responding to the investigation saying the governor is "grateful no passengers were injured in this troubling incident and we'll be

closely, this as the original operator is treated at south shore hospital." investigators are also interviewing witnesses as well as that original train operator trying to figure out exactly how something like this could have happened. we're live in boston nichole jacobs. massachusetts governor charlie baker has been briefed on the incident, he just spoke to the boston harold. >> the most important thing for my -- from my point of view is investigations on going, nobody was hurt, thankfully. but this train was tampered what they were doing. >> he is going to have a press conference in the next few moments, we'll bring that to you live. chris we want to give you a closer exactly what happen here, this is a look at the redline, you can see where this train started in brain tree,

quincy center, and stopped at north quincy station, chris. the incident has caused delays on redline all morning long, of course, and into the afternoon, passengers unaware exactly what happen. our beth is live this afternoon and she has talked with riders who were on this ghost train, what are they saying, beth? >> reporter: it was a seemingly normal commute about 6:15 this morning, 15 minutes into the was terribly wrong. now there were six cars in all and we spoke with a passenger experience. >> the whole train started off. and everything just stopped down between quincy and jfk and minutes. >> one of about 20 passenger os be the redline train was without a conductor, only when

they realize they were alone. >> we knocked on the door of the driver and nobody was there. >> what did you see inside? >> nothing, it was all dark, everything was quiet. it was just odd, we had no idea what was going on. >> reporter: what is going through your mind now? >> it was just kind of scary, at first we received information gunshot and somebody was hurt. so my first idea was like, i am going to get out of here, at the same time i don't want to get out of here. >> reporter: the lack of information frustrating for passengers, many deciding they had to get out before t officials finally boarded. >> some people were trying to break the windows, most people were trying to open the doors and some other people were trying to call and see what is going on. >> reporter: and still given no information she says when they finally pulled into jfk she is glad there were other people on the train with her to try to calm her fears and thankful

suicide mission if they are going after someone with a rifle. >> now boston police are concerned about this decision saying they were not consulted by the school. wooster police are investigating the thefts of three more sets of human remains from hope cemetery, officers say the thieves are using the skeletons in religious ceremonies, investigators have been checking all the mausoleums in the city after medina in hartford was charged with having five skeletons, medina told them he is a priest and admitted to paying someone to steal the remains, officers believes the mausoleum locks were cut back in may but not stolen until september. today boston police are investigating a deadly shooting in dorchester, a man was shot and killed around 9:30 last night. right now no arrests have been made. we want to get you up to

been covering, comments on the run away redline train that took place earlier this morning, there he is in plymouth. let's listen in. good afternoon. so i think many people know there was a train that left brain tree this morning that was unmanned, passed through four stations, stopped, passengers were let off. thankfully nobody was hurt. the train itself was determined it was -- it was unmanned and traveling from brain tree within a couple minute thes when it left much the power on the third rail was should off at that point in time but the train coasted because it had moment 'em at that point forward through several stations before it came to a stop. inspection of the train determined that some of the controls had been manipulated and there is an on-going investigation that involves folks from the nbta from dot

from what we can tell at this point, it appears to be an isolated incident. >> governor is the fbi involved in the investigation to your knowledge? >> to my knowledge at this point they are not involved. i believe it's public safety dot and the nbta. >> you said this morning it was tampered with. >> manipulated with, tampered with. it's pretty clear that it was set in forward motion which is why it moved in the first place when the signal was manipulated. but as i said, within a couple minutes of it leaving the third rail was turned off and it coasted through several stations. >> the motor man who was -- what was his role to the best of your knowledge, it was something wrong with the train, got out to check it, is that -- >> something with the signal check the signal. and then it went forward. >> last question.

something to do with the tampering. >> the investigation is going to obviously involve questions, people are talking to him and they'll talk to others as well. but i don't want to draw conclusions about that until the investigation is further along. >> are people safe -- >> look, this is as i said at this point we believe this is an isolated incident and i think the system overall is running on normal schedule and in a normal way. this particular incident is being investigated on its own. but as i said within a couple minutes of that train leaving the station they cut the pow you are. >> to the best of your knowledge, is it conceivable, governor, this motor man put something in gear, -- oh, i mistake. >> i don't want to get too i think the big question at bill, is the right one.
