confusion when the train was speeding along passing through several stations, the lights going out, and when it finally stopped those in the first cars realized there was no conductor. but plenty of passengers had no idea they were on an unmanned train. >> it seemed to be a routine commute when the redline train left brain tree station just after 6:00 a.m. but passenger bill briggs realized they were bypassing stations. >> ha is the first time we were going really fast, wow that is stopped. >> you noticed the expressions on the platform. at the next station. >> what did you think when you stations. >> that something was wrong. we are going too fast. >> all the lights went off and everything stopped between quincy and jfk and we stayed there for like 30 mines. >> that is when passenger person and da daily said some were trying to open doors and

ryan looking into that. >> paula with all the safety technology available for today's train, we wanted to know how often something like this happens, after checking with the federal transit administration, we learned about two similar incidents. first in chicago, two years ago and unmanned train left the yard and actually crashed into another train that was carrying passengers. 33 people including the operator of the other train were injured, that incident was blamed on a maintenance issue. in sacramento there was an incident that sounds almost exactly like what happen today. a mechanic bypassed safety control while trying to fix a problem then stepped off the train, it took off and derailed then got back on the tracks and foundly came to a stop but not before causing more than $70,000 in damage. the big difference between those two example the and what happen today in boston, neither of those unmanned trains had passengers 0 on board when they
