e-mail: comments@captioncolorado.com good morning, everybody. this saturday morning. you made it to the weekend. i'm kerry connolly along with pamela gardner. another great weekend it will be. >> amazing weather. with us. we will be mostly dry. today will be dry. and cooler temperatures. on the way out, i'll get to all of that in a second, starting out with temps in the comfortable range here. 51 boston, 52 hyannis. 39, though in norwood. it gets a little frosty once you get up to fitchburg. 46 degrees in worcester. heavy coats necessary for some while others farther to the south and east can have a lighter jacket out there. temperatures or visibility right now is looking good in all spots. we're not dealing with the extremely dense fog or

it came down to now 1 and three-quarters of a mile. light fog has developed in the connecticut river valley. that's where we see the fog. temperatures will be very pleasant. the clouds hang around for the majority of the day with bursts of sunshine throughout. 60 degrees by 3:00. 52 by 5:00. very, very pleasant temperatures. cooler day for sunday. temperature swings, though, come up. then we have 60s. some days in the 40s. we'll go through all of the details in the seven-day forecast. kerry? >> all right, pamela. thank you. this morning, we know how a run away red line train took off. sources tell us a rubber cord was wrapped around the throttle control allowing the train to leave the station. as lauren leamanczyk reports, it looks like the driver could be fired. >> reporter: as a run away red line train sped down the

passengers on board. >> the only thing i could think was that there was no only train ahead of us, we hope. huge. >> reporter: tragedy averted not just by luck but here at the mbta operations center. dispatchers got the call a minute after the train left braintree station. the race was on. they had just ten minutes to clear the line so they could bring the train to a halt. >> there is no question that that nine-minute duration felt like an hour to them during that particular time. >> reporter: wbz has learned the driver of the train david vasquez wrapped a rubber telephone cord around an accelerator control. he stepped out of the train to flip a bypass switch and forgot to remove the cord. so instead of stopping, the train barreled past four stops with 50 passengers on board. >> we are confident that this was an isolated incident where a single individual appears to have made multiple errors.

thinking here, those errors didn't lead to disaster, but they might get vasquez fired. >> in any way wedging or restricting the movement of this would be subject to termination. >> reporter: the t is going to start requiring two operators present before they try to do a bypass move like the one vasquez was trying to do. lauren leamanczyk, wbz news. we are following a developing story now in southern california. authorities investigating a hate crime. it's not far from the scene of last week's terrorist attack in san bernardino. it is the same mosque that was hit by gunfire in november of 2014. leaders of the mosque say the building was fire bombed. fortunately, there were no injuries. cbs news has learned the

people to death at a holiday party in san bernardino did use encryption technology on their cell phones. now the fbi is working to unlock them. meantime, fbi divers returned to a lake looking for crews into the shooting. the two had been in the area the day before the attack. the army is investigating the death of an army ranger from new hampshire who was killed in a training accident. corporal andrew amesbury died after being hit during a live fire exercise in fort stewart in georgia. he grew up in stratford, new hampshire, and served one tour in afghanistan. he was just 21 years old. a brave survivor of the sandy hook tragedy was honored at a game last night. the celtics called her a hero. she said she's a teacher, not a politician. as jim armstrong reports, this

>> reporter: to be sure this is a bittersweet moment for caitlyn. friday night, the celtics bestowed upon her the hero among us award, recognizing the nonprofit she runs that teaches grade schoolers about compassion and tolerance. >> all would have been lost if i had chose ton focus on the evil actions of that day -- chosen to focus on the evenle actions of that day. >> reporter: three years ago, she was in hell. she barricaded her fist grade class in a bathroom, protecting gunman. >> every, single second of every minute of every day is the anniversary. monday is three years, and that's very real and very raw. it's every minute of every day. >> reporter: in the three years since, she has watched astounded as the mass shootings have continued. >> completely senseless, and i am praying for those in power of our country to put their heads together and find a common sense solution because

>> reporter: the governor of her home state wants to be the first state to prevent people on the no-fly list from buying guns. >> it's time for right-thinking people to say if someone is on the terrorism watch list, perhaps we should, you know, temporarily delay them from buying a gun. >> reporter: for this survivor herself, that's a start. also governor baker said he's considering following connecticut's lead on this issue. baker says he's going to look into whether or not massachusetts can issue its own executive order allowing the state to look at the federal no- fly list and stop people on that list from buying guns here in massachusetts. morning. the d.c.f. work who're failed to act on a neglect complaint when bella bond was a baby will not be instead, the employee will get a written warning for copying and pasting old information about bella's mother into new reports in 2012 and '13.

hold someone accountable if you don't give them guidance. bond's mother and the mother's boyfriend are charged in connection with her murder. a lynn man is under arrest. a third person shot inside of the house is seriously wounded. police are saying nothing about a motive. foggy weather may have played a role in a deadly crash in north reading. the drive wears killed friday morning when she lost control of her car, swerving across the road and into a house. the family inside, fortunately, was not hurt. in new york state, the call is overturned. for now, fantasy sports will stay in business. draftkings and rival fan duel have won an emergency appeal to continue operating. a judge ruled they could no longer take bets so they went to court. new york's attorney general wants to shut down the site arguing it's illegal gambling. funeral services will be held this wednesday for a woman who bake an icon in her brooklyn neighborhood.

even at the age of 101, she worked at irving's toy and card shop. she and her late husband opened the shop near the end of the great depression, and she continued to run it past her 100th birthday because she didn't want to disappoint her most important customers, the neighborhood kids. here's what some of them had to say about ethel when cbs profiled her in september. >> okay, thank you. almost. >> reporter: really? >> yeah. just really welcoming and polite when you come in. >> nothing can compare to her in that candy shop. >> reporter: ethel leaves behind three daughters, 12 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren. some of her family still live in the area, but it's not clear yet what will happen to the shop. boy, she will be very missed. hearing a young and talented musician perform is always a treat, but a concert at children's hospital was music to an entire medical team's ears. we'll explain why. pamela? >> time to take a look at more

a little violinist who thought one year ago thought she might not play again performed with the doctors who saved her talent and her life. she had to leave last year's holiday concert early because of a headache. she found out a short time later the pain was actually from a brain tumor. her family was told surgery could save her but rob her of her talent.

hospital to prove she'd beaten the odds. >> reporter: sophie plays the violin as beautifully as she smiles. >> that was so fun. >> reporter: this brave young girl has a lot to smile about. >> i feel great. i don't feel sick at all. >> reporter: that was not the case a year ago. sophie felt sick during last year's christmas concert in vermont. the headache that sent sophie home turned out to be a brain tumor. >> she developed headaches and was supposed to play in this concert around christmas a year ago. that was interrupted because of her headaches. >> reporter: sophie underwent brain surgery at dana farber's children's hospital. >> it's been pretty tough. >> reporter: for the past year, sophie and her family have been traveling back and forth from vermont to children's hospital. immediately following her surgery, they weren't sure if sophie would be able to play the violin again. >> because of a new diagnosis, not knowing whether this would be a tumor that we could take care of. >> reporter: sophie is in the

speaking out about remains stolen from a worcester cemetery. the people whose graves were violated were part of a historic blood line and the descendants are sharing their story with jim smith. >> this is lincoln holton dean, my grandfather. >> reporter: a pain that's hard to imagine, his grandfather's final resting place brutally disturbed. a worcester mausoleum robbed, the remains of five families stolen. they were part of a grand family, the houghtons and are now not resting in peace. >> when we heard the reports that someone had taken the remains of our family members and used them, i think, on an altar for religious ceremonies, it really sort of made your -- it was saddening but more disturbing. >> reporter: police have charged medina who is a priest. one skeleton found in his

>> there were marble covers to the areas where the caskets and bodies were laid to rest. so they had to be smashed and damaged and the caskets had to be removed and opened. >> reporter: in all, nine adults and two children were interred in this mausoleum including bob's grandfather who left harvard to fight in world war i and his great-great grandfather. >> we're also concerned about whether the remains are now being handled properly and with where are the remains? >> reporter: jim smith, wbz this morning. a boston uber driver comes under attack, and it was all caught on camera. abdul azziz picked up a group early yesterday morning on stewart street. he claims one of the men in the group yelled at him and insulted his religion. when he asked the group to get out, he was suddenly attacked. it continued outside the car.

a fire at a mosque is being investigated as a possible hate crime. the fbi has been called in. it's not far from the scene of last week's terrorist attack in san bernardino. it is the same mosque that was hit by gunfire in november of 2014. leaders at the mosque say the building was fire bombed. fortunately, there were no injuries. cbs news has learned the husband and wife who shot 14 people to death in a holiday party in san bernardino did use encryption technology on their cell phones. unlock them. meantime, fbi divers returned to a lake looking for clues into the shooting. syed farooque and tashfeen had the attack. an army ranger killed in a training accident after being hit during a live fire exercise at fort stewart in georgia.

kids between the ages of 6 and 11. the program works with children who have experienced traumatic events like the death of a parent or sibling or homelessness, and it provides them with all sorts of services such as individual therapy, mentoring, and virtually anything you can think of to help them cope. joining us on "for your community" this morning is janet carp, the founder and executive director of boston youth sanctuary. janet, thanks for being here. >> good morning. thank you for having me. >> you were an elementary schoolteacher and then you came up with this amazing idea for boston youth sanctuary. how did you come about creating it? >> year after year, i came across students that due to emotional issues were unable to access education because they were caught in a cycle of trauma, and in talking with their families and other providers, the common thread was their traumatic life

more therapeutic services. so with the help of family and the community and a lot of support, i was able to create this model for a therapeutic intervention. >> it's hard to hear when any child is suffering in any way. you tend to help the kids between 6 and 11. is that the age where the intervention is the most important? >> we find that if we do more preventive work, less recovery work has to be done on the other side. if we can start young before the behaviors manifest, we can provide the children with the skills they need so that they can have less traumatic life experiences. >> what are some of the services for those who have not heard about you, what are the services you offer the kids? >> the children get individual therapy, art expressive therapy, dance movement therapy and ape lot of really fun activities. they have male and female

boston police are now investigating the incident. uber tells wbz they have banned that passenger from using their service. foggy weather may have played a role in a deadly crash. a driver was killed friday morning when she lost control of her car swerving across the road right into a house. the family inside was not hurt. this morning, a family is speaking out about remains stolen from a worcester cemetery. the people whose graves were violated were part of a historic blood line in worcester. this morning, their descendants are sharing their story with jim smith. >> reporter: this is lincoln holton dean, my grand father. >> reporter: bob is feeling a pain that's hard to imagine. his grandfather's final resting place violated, brutally disturbed. a worcester mausoleum robbed. the remains of five relatives grand families, the holtons. peace. >> when we heard the reports
