and talking about that a little bit before they begin their school day so they can assist students. >> reporter: high schools were deserted after superintendent mark conrad made the decision to close all 17 of nashua schools leaving more than 11,000 students at home. it's the result of an email threat to a school threatened specific acts of violence to students and staff in nashua's to high schools. >> it was specific in terms of naming the two high schools by occur. saying today is the day that harm would be done to students. >> reporter: state police and the bureau of alcohol tobacco and firearms helped sweep the schools with dogs. they found nothing. no word from law enforcement on who did this or why. >> public outcry, safety worries, worries from the parents, we would certainly prosecute this individual to

>> reporter: counselors tomorrow. will be discussing with situation. to defend his decision, basically saying it was how specific the threat was that alarmed him and the last time a school was closed in nashua due to a threat was a decade ago. live in nashua, louisa muller, wbz news. the scare from this threat extended beyond nashua. the towns of tyngsborough and hudson, new hampshire put extra police at their schools this morning just as a precaution. breaking news in confirmed six american soldiers died when a suicide bomber on a patrol. two more soldiers were wounded. the soldiers were patrolling through a village near bogra airfield when they were attacked. also breaking tonight, police trying to find a woman and her two children. they say she has kidnapped them.

paul? >> reporter: police have not issued an amber warning but these children are still missing. this is not the first time the mother has taken that but this is the first time she's been gone this long without a trace and the father is deeply concerned. >> this is a picture of stevie and eden in front of my house. probably a month or two ago. >> reporter: stephen kerrigan holds up a picture of his two children, eden rose and five- year-old stephen junior. both are missing. ex-girlfriend took them on sunday from their father's home and never returned. >> i'm praying that they get returned safe and we resolve this. >> reporter: today, police say they have concerns for the children's safety and have a warrant out for valerie's arrest for minor kidnapping. stephen, who has sole custody says, he allowed the kids to

part of the day to celebrate stephen, jr.'s birthday. she was supposed to return them by pat -- by 5 pm on sunday. that never happened. >> i don't know where they could be. it's a scary thought that you don't know where they could be. no one knows. >> reporter: jacob grew up with valerie and says she would never concert children harm but has no idea where she is. >> valerie love those kids. she would never hurt kids or do anything like that. >> stephen along with police have been searching all day. >> reporter: eden rose never went to school today. police are currently searching for valerie's 2002 land rover discovery, license plate number 847-zik04 -- 847-zz2. anyone with information is asked to contact police. paul burton, wbz news. david, back to you. counting down to christmas

stay in the mid-50s as you rush minute holiday errands. once we get to christmas eve, we're looking at temperatures in the mid-60s. eric fisher joins us right now. the whole world is turned upside down here. >> it feels that way certainly. the whole pattern has been upside down. completely reversed, 51 in boston, one of the coolest days this week, 40s west of town, plenty of mild air off to our south and west, felt that moving in today, gusty southwest winds, as long as the storm track continues to track off to our west we continue to be on the warm side. if you want snow, they've got to move up along the coastline and neither of those situations happening anytime soon. look at our hour by hour, a batch of rain moving through tomorrow, midday through the afternoon, the steadiest rainfall. we'll get a break then another patch of rain starts to move in as we head towards wednesday evening. and all the while, temperatures will go up and up until we get

temperature trend is 50s every day but way up into the 60s on christmas eve and then still around 60 on christmas day itself, a record-setting week. we'll walk you through all of it in a few minutes. a judge in new bedford has ordered a man to stay away from animals after what police found in his home. they say they were investigating danny santos in a hit and run when they visited his home. then found animals dead and alive in and out of the house. that included seven dogs who were malnourished, and now in police have filed animal cruelty charges. truly eye-popping, eye- opening numbers tonight from the struggle with his budget. 24% of workers have made more than $100,000 this year. the highest-paid employee took home $315,000, more than half of that was overtime pay. the average hourly wages is

higher than any other major transit system in the country. hundreds of firefighters are sounding the alarm tonight about their sirens. they say noise from the sirens is leaving them with hearing loss and as lauren tells us, boston firefighters past and present are about to file a lawsuit. >> reporter: it's a signed that -- sign that means help is on the way but now thousands of firefighters including more than 300 from boston are suing the maker of these sirens. >> they have completely blasted in your face. you wince as you get older. you wince at the noise. >> reporter: boston district chief bill meyer says it permanently damaged his hearing. >> my kids are always yelling at me, dad, i have to repeat everything. >> reporter: the volume and pitch of the sirens made by federal signal are unreasonably dangerous, the lawsuit says. the company could have designed sirens that direct anoint -- direct noise away from the

>> it's company -- it's up to the companies to work on it. they are tremendous. >> reporter: the company defends their surroundsound silence saying the claims don't make sense. restricting the full sound range of sirens increases the risk of accidents by reducing the warning sound to the size of fire trucks. this reduction puts the public at greater risk. rich paris of the boston firefighters union says this is a serious issue for his members. he thinks there's got to be a better way to design the sirens. >> you have to have it allowed to warn the people but you've also got to take the firefighters. >> reporter: lawsuits have already been fired on behalf of firefighters in new york and philadelphia. the signal is the largest maker of sirens in the world. david and paula? >> lauren, thank you. a fenway favorite gets the ultimate honor. >> the number that's going to be joining this classic collection at fenway next summer. plus a randolph man says

think about this generosity. a third grader who gave up her own birthday presents so that less fortunate kids could have those. we had the privilege of meeting her today. >> for this little girl, a good idea is just beginning. >> maybe i can do something that can change the world. >> savanna turned nine last month and on her birthday, she had a great idea. >> my idea -- my idea was to have people buy presence for toys for tots. >> that's instead of buying presents for her. >> she said she didn't want birthday presents this year. and she was going to donate them.

her family and friends would have given her and brought them here. to the toys for tots center at the police station. >> i was so happy when i dropped them off. i dropped off a lego set, headband, a bear, basketball hoop. children don't have all the things that we do. >> it's part of what the season is. she felt that it was better to give than it was to receive. that's the instance of what christmas is about. >> because of that selfless act, less fortunate children will have a happier holiday. >> i'm very proud of her. it's a great thing. >> nice to get presence for yourself but it's even more greater to give them to kids that don't have toys. >> is she and angel? >> she is. >> with her little voice, so innocent. she's going to do it again next

gusty this evening, by tomorrow morning, much calmer outside, a brief lull and then the winds will pick up again tomorrow afternoon and evening, gusting out of the southwest and the strongest gusts felt across the cape islands and south coast for tomorrow our -- fortunate, a chance of a shower, mostly dry and cloudy, temperatures holding in the 40s. tomorrow, way up into the 50s again, sometimes just a degree or two just shy of 50 degrees. tracking some rain tomorrow also. as we head out the door in the morning, a few showers, starting to develop. more widespread rain as we head through the afternoon and into the very early evening. a couple quick downpours in there also. that rain moves out, then we get a lull, a lot of fog to deny through the day on wednesday. and then by wednesday evening, the next slug of rain starts to move in, pretty heavy stuff on wednesday evening. wednesday night flights may actually be impacted at logan because of the rainfall. temperatures way above average, as we head into thursday, talk

record smashing, way up into the 60s. if you're traveling everywhere on the east coast, look at the forecast. new york over 70, dc just a couple degrees shy of 80 degrees. 80s down in florida, these will be records set on christmas eve. for us, expecting 68 for the high and a low of 64 at night. a couple of showers, most of the day is drive. last-minute errands, if you want to get in a round of golf on christmas eve, no problem. warmest one that anyone alive has seen in the pot -- in the boston area. christmas eve, not just the high temps being broken but the low in terms of the warmest said, most 50 degrees will be set on christmas eve. the highest winter dew point might get set, muggy outside, and the latest measurable snowfall in the city of christmas eve, we'll be going well past that. them for christmas day, highs near 60, bright skies, breezy,

let's start off with injury news. danny amendola left the win with a knee injury. nfl network in rapoport says he's having tests done on it but it's believed to be a string that won't make a miss playoff games. so there's good news. and more patriots news, multiple reports say the team will sign former falcons running back steven jackson for the rest of the season. that's the rumor. legarrette blount and dion lewis are out for the year. the third two-year-old has over 11,000 yards rushing, he has yet to play a game this season. patriots improve to 12-to -- 12-2. with denver's loss, the pats click a first-round bye. this morning, on the callahan show, brady was asked how he would feel about resting guys down the stretch to get ready for the postseason. >> i played to win. i think -- it's also the 15th week of the year.

a randolph man who said he created the characters of "kung fu panda" is now facing federal charges. >> prosecutors say he made it jamie gordon produced this sketch which he said dreamworks stole to create "kung fu panda". but prosecutors say gordon's sketch was something that he traced out of a lion king coloring book. million fighting his lawsuit. he could get up to 20 years in prison for this. apparitions are -- the parishioners will get one last closing. >> the archdiocese made a deal with st. francis cabrini. they have 90 days to ask the supreme court to take their case but if they do not or rule against them, they must give up their fight. the parishioners have been occupying the church in a vigil for 11 years. new england aquarium is to
