i can tell you the building is vacant. and it was vacant of course at the time of this fire, so good news, no one was inside, i do want to get you to some video of overnight, those flames really piercing from the top of the roof, i can tell you firefighters were in, to release some of the fire and the smoke, what we know right now, this building has been vacant for about 15 or 20 years we're told, it's currently a dcr building, they did have to do a thorough search inside to make sure no one was there, we're told at one point there were living quarters, right now fire crews says it was a labor intensive process because of all the ladder work that had to be done to relieve the fire and smoke but the department -- deputy chief says they're looking in say.

custody of her kids but she's allowed visitation, she picked them up sunday and never brought them home. >> excited about going home and i am too. >> reporter: a sigh of relief prosecute a father whose world was turned upside down sunday afternoon. >> feel like i got 1,000 pound just lifted off my shoulder. >> reporter: steve carrigan says he allowed his ex girlfriend valerie mcgrath to visit with their son and daughter sunday. but when she didn't return the kids on the agreed upon time, he alerted police. that triggered a 24 hour search and her arrest. mcgrath took off with the kids and rented a car in fall river. carrigan noticed the ending with the kids safe and happy is the best he could've hoped for. >> i'm very glad it wasn't another state, far away or anything like that, just so glad it's just, you know, down the street and now we can just go home and enjoy the rest of the night. >> reporter: now he'll head home and answer questions over

hundreds of local firefighters say they're losing their hearing because the sirens firefighters joining thousands across the country, they're filing a lawsuit against federal signal, the maker of those sirens, they say the volume and pitch are unreasonably dangerous and the company could've designed siren directing noise away from firefighters. >> it's up to the companies that manufactures the sirens to work on it. they are tremendously loud. >> the company is defending their sirens saying in a statement the claims don't make sense and restricting the full sound range of sirens increases the risk of accidents by reducing the warning sound to the sides of fire trucks, this reduction puts firefighters and the public at risk. this is a big story yesterday, organizers of the miss universe pageant are apologizing for this embarrassing mistake we told you about it, host steve harvey announced miss columbia the

building, we know it was a vacant building, this been vacant for about 15, 20 years, currently a dcr building that had living quarters at one point, a thorough search to ensure no one was inside and that did prove to be the case, we are told there were no injuries to firefighters in this situation, certainly good news there. i can tell you that the fire chief says they don't believe this fire started inside the building, fact they say it started outside which does lend them some suspicion, it gives them an idea that perhaps it was intentionally set but certainly that is something still under investigation, a very labor intensive process here this morning, as they had to release the ceiling to release all of that fire and smoke that was trapped inside of the building, but again, back here live, the scene is clear, traffic is flowing again, but certainly, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. that's the very latest from brighton this morning, nicole

nicole thank you very much. 6:33 right thousand, a mother in court today accused of kidnapping her own children and sparking a frantic search, susie steimle is live with the latest, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, kathryn we know that mother was valerie mcgrath who was held here at the lakeville police department, her two children accused of kidnapping were found safe, a 5-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl now at home with their father unharmed after that lengthy and extensive search. she is due in court later today and mcgrath does not have custody of her two kids, but is allowed visitation and that's what happened sunday when she picked up the kids for a couple of hours, but never returned them prompting a 24-hour search, certainly scaring the father especially after she reportedly rented a car in fall river. >> i'm very glad that it wasn't, you know, another state or, you that.

prosecutors say he made the whole thing up, they say jamie gordon produced this sketch which he says dreamworks stole to create kung fu panda but they say now it's something he traced out a lion king yolor -- coloring book, dreamworks spent $3 million defending. savannah's ninth birthday was last month but instead of getting gifts she asked her family if she could give the gifts they would've given to her to toys for tots, she's going to do it next year too, she says, use it for people who could use help. amazing at 9 years old she can do that. we can learn something from her, i love that. a special thank you, how one woman is honoring hole police.

6:46 a boston building badly damaged by an overnight fire. >> right now, fire crews still on the scene at a vacant building on western, you can smell the fire from blocks away, the flames started around 3:00 this morning, crews had to cut holes in the roof to get to the fire, luckily no one hurt. a mother set to appear in court today accused of kidnapping her two young children, valerie mcgrath arrested in raynham last night, accused of taking her two young children and not returning them to their father, the kids are okay and reunited last night. overnight cranes helped right another crane that lapse -- collapsed on to a house in plymouth, that fell right on the roof, went through it and the second floor of the home on lisa avenue, still trying to figure out what went wrong. schools back open in nashua but with an extra police presence a threat forced

schools yesterday, officials now say there's no longer a specific threat. there are more health troubles for chipotle, people in three more states have gotten sick from eating there and a new outbreak of e. coli is suspected. the new vps -- victims are from kansas, north dakota, and oklahoma. but it's not clear if the case is link to the e. coli case in other states, the cdc investigating locally dozens of people were infected by the norovirus after eating at the cleveland circle location, those cases not linked to the other outbreaks. dozens of people trapped high in the sky, see -- seaworld, sky tower trapping them at 400 feet, the tallest observation tower in florida, crews eventually manage to do bring the cabin down, no one wrong. a historic rocket landing in

it is time for our daily talker, would you consider moving closer to work if your employer paid you more? >> hmm, okay, that's what facebook workers are now considering the social networking site is offering thousands of dhars for -- dollar for employee to move within 10 miles of the california campus, anywhere between 10 and $15,000 to relocate, but facebook says that number is confidential. critics say the move could squeeze out low income residents in the area but one economist says this could actually be a good thing. >> facebook's offer combined with their offer for menlo park to build more housing and for them to support low income housing is a good thing, it's a package. >> so the question, we are posing this morning, would you take facebook's offer? what incentives would get you closer to work? david on facebook writes if they are paying for the move, why not? think of the time you can save. marie had this to say, i think it is a thoughtful and generous
