up for a lot of spots, from philly to new york city to back up in to central new england as well. so dense fog advisory means visibilities will be a quarter of a mile or less at times, so be aware of rapidly changing conditions out there. it's thick from taunton to new bedford to plymouth, the one mile visibility, chatham, three quarters of a mile, and logan doing okay, worcester as well, temperatures warm in the upper 40s, just in the low 50s, the humidity gone up a bit and the wind from the south at nine miles per hour. it's colder north of town, we're only in the mid 30s in nashua, but 52 in worcester, warm air just below the surface and going to mix some of that warm air today coming in the 50s again, notice it's dry, the clouds are in place but we wait until late in the day for showers to arrive, so your planner goes this way, areas of thick fog that will stay patchy through lunch time and then scattered showers late afternoon in to your evening ride, the rain's going to fall hard tonight, but

we're live in lynn, susie steimle, wbz "this morning ". >> all right, susie, thank you very much, 5:03 right now. after 17 months in prison, the man who gave a gun to the boston marathon bombers is free. that gun was used to kill m.i.t. officer collier, nicole jacobs has the story in cambridge. >> i apologize to any people or families that i caused harm to, i'm deeply sorry about that. >> reporter: under those words, 22-year-old stephen silva is a free man. >> i had no idea what his intentions were with the firearm. >> reporter: the firearm at the center of this case, the one used to kill m.i.t. officer collier, the one supplied to the tsarnaev brothers by silva. >> definitely like to give my deepest condolences to the collier family, i'm very upset the firearm was used to kill him. >> reporter: in federal court, judge wolf sentenced the former drug trafficker to 17 months in prison, exactly the time he's already served. during dzhokhar tsarnaev

accused of killing two men in boston in 2012, he's already serving a life sentence north murder of odin lloyd. the homeless woman accused of driving her car on a crowded sidewalk in the las vegas strip is expected to make her first court appearance, lakeisha holloway is charged with murder in sunday's crash that killed one person and injured dozens. her lawyer says she'll plead plead guilty, also facing child abuse charges her daughter was in the car, she was not hurt. police describe as a mass port impostor facing charges, 35-year-old james reppucci was high on meth and claimed to be a mass port employee visiting a winthrop apartment claiming to change the windows, trying to get in one apartment and walking right in to another. >> i asked for his i.d., he went

>> i was doing something, i forgot, i turned he said he was from mass port i said no, mass port didn't put our windows in. >> while reppucci being booked, video showing him grabbing a bottle of window cleaner and using it against officers, facing assault and battery and other charges. a fire at vacant building in brighton, yesterday morning at the old department of recreation and conservation building on western avenue, the damage from the fire is estimated at a quarter million dollars, and now we're learning more about the history of the building which was built in 1899. it was the headquarters of the speedway, a long track for horse-drawn carriages and bicycles, the speedway was demolished in the 50s, the headquarters has had various uses over the years, dcr has been looking for ways to redevelop this historic location. the chipotle restaurant in cleveland circle will likely reopen by the end of this week. the city shut it down after more than 140 people got sick with

there are a lot of areas of fog that we're going to have to contend here and we've tied a record by the way, for the most number of 50 degree days in december, tying it with 1953, we're up to 16 days because we did hit 50 overnight after midnight, it's 47 boston right now but just 52 in the last hour, we're going to add more days to that list as well over the next week or so. 37 in nashua right now, so just like yesterday, there are some cooler spots, and 52 in worcester though, and 45 to 50 on the cape and islands, this is the current visibility, notice logan airport, boston, 10 miles we're doing fine at logan but half a mile visibility from lawrence to bedford, half a mile to plymouth as well and locally from taunton to providence, then through the corridor and southern new hampshire as well, just be aware of rapidly changing visibility out there this morning. other than that, it's a dry start. and there are some clouds in place, but where we don't have

filtered sunshine early this morning before we wait for showers to move in. those showers are still down through the mid atlantic right now, moving north ward during the day today and we'll get in to some of them, but not until late afternoon early evening, a lot of the afternoon is spent dry, if you're getting anything done, 3:00 p.m., couple showers right along the south coast, cape and the islands, and that will turn to a steadier light commute. no major weather issues but pockets of light rain will be around, that rain will ramp up and intense coverage late this evening, tonight it's going to pour, tomorrow morning though, just a few leftover showers during the first part of the morning commute then the sun breaks out, we're breezy, a little bit humid and we're 65 to 70 degrees tomorrow afternoon, crushing records all across the northeast down through the mid atlantic, by the time we get to christmas day, front coming through, still mild on 60, dry

north of town a clear ride on route 3, 93, 95, and route one, also a good ride trt south, route 3 is clear, no back ups yet at the braintree split and ride so far. new this morning, firefighters in milton, new hampshire now accepting donations to help a family who lost its house in this big fire, it happened last night on pine street, the family of four lost everything and the fire department now accepting those donations to help them out during the holiday season, accepting everything from toys to money, the red cross accepting to help find them a place to stay. national grid will have to pay more than $1 million for safety violations, telling the cape cod times the fine the larnlest they've ever handed down against a local natural gas distributor, it covers 20 pipeline safety violations, contest this.

the war of words between the front runners and the race for president is getting nasty, at a campaign event, donald trump mocked hillary clinton for running to the restroom during a commercial break during saturday's democratic debate. then trump used a vulgar term to describe how clinton lost to barack obama in 2008, clinton sidestepped the issue yesterday but said trump is cheapening the race. >> it's important to stand up to bullies wherever they are and why we shouldn't let anybody bully his way in to the presidency. >> last night on twitter, trump denied the word he used was vulgar, he says it means she was beaten badly. meanwhile, according to a new university poll, half of the country said it would be embarrassed to have donald trump as president, 23% of voters surveyed said they'd be proud while 24% responded neither way. we're learning about a security breach at one of the nation's busiest airports,

man who splid the weapon dsh supplied the weapon to kill officer sean collier is a free man, he walked out of court after a judge sentenced him to time served, stephen silva served 17 months. silva says he regrets giving the gun to the tsarnaev brothers and says he's a changed man. we reached out to collier's family for reaction, his brother andrew tells us quote i believe in the u.s. justice system, just as sean did, happy holidays to everyone and enjoy time with your family. it is precious. in other news, the judge in the philip chism case sets a sentencing date for january 29 in court yesterday, that judge denied an unusual request by chism's attorney to band everyone, except colleen ritzer's family from wearing pink in court. pink was ritzer's favorite color, the judge did rule prosecutors and law enforcement cannot wear pink during sentencing. and that request by chism's lawyer is turning heads. >> this morning, jon keller

crossed the line. >> reporter: good morning, i'm sure the attorney for the teenager convicted last week in the horrific rape and murder of danvers high school teacher colleen ritzer thinks she was doing her job by asking the judge to bar spectators at next month's sentencing hearing from wearing pink, colleen's favorite color that has become a symbol of grief and solidarity with her family. but the lawyer got it wrong, big time. it was one thing when the judge in the aaron hernandez trial ordered his victim's grieving mother not to cry in court during the proceedings for fear of influencing the jury. understandable. sentence this convicted murderer. that will be handled by an experienced, sober judge, david lowe. and contrary to the defense lawyer's claim that there's no displays of any particular

killed a man while he was sitting on his granite hills home, held without bail. threatening a firefighter with a knife, officers arresting morning. a member of the arson squad was investigating a series of recent fires near garnet and appleton streets when they say lefevbre approached him. police say they found the man and the knife nearby. a construction worker is in the hospital this morning after a 600 pound concrete wall collapsed on his head! he was working at a site on shoeman avenue in stoughton, emergency responders tell us the 36-year-old man was conscious and alert when he was taken to the hospital, not known why the wall collapsed. saying the league backed out of funding of a concussion study, espn saying the nfl backed out of plan to fund a major study and that the decision delayed the research by
