>> yes, there's a little bit of fog and it's locally thick, you guys so hearing from a lot of people on twitter, it's thick like pea soup out there but it is in spots, localized obviously so be aware of changing visibility, dense fog advisory, shaded in gray until 10:00 a.m. this morning, which means visibility quarter of a mile or less at times. and we have that from taunton to thu bedford, plymouth to hyannis and orange and keene, look at logan airport doing well, temperature wise, 49 degrees a warm start southwest wind variable all morning long just like yesterday, mid 30s, worcester and 45 to near 50 on the cape and island, besides the fog though, not contending with much else, just a few clouds, and think wet weather holds off until late in the day, so lunch time clouds still some patchy fog, 52 degrees, and around 50s for the ride home with scattered

earlier this month in order to clean up, 148 people who ate there got sick with norovirus, all the employees tested for the norovirus and workers not allowed to return until their tests come back negative, the city says one manager has been dismissed. the homeless woman accused of driving her car on to a crowded sidewalk in the las vegas strip is expected to make her first court appearance today. lakeisha holloway is charged with murder in sunday's crash that killed one person and injured dozens, her lawyer says she'll plead not guilty. holloway also faces child abuse charges her 3-year-old daughters in the car at the time of the incident, the child was not hurt. disturbing new information on the local mother charged with kidnapping her own two children. prosecutors say a suicide thoet -- note was found in valerie mcgrath's car, they say she planned on killing herself and the children, mcgrath took the kids from the father's home on

mcgrath behind bars on $50,000 bond. after 17 months in prison, the young man who gave a gun to the marathon bombing brothers is spending his first day as a free man, that gun was used to kill m.i.t. officer sean collier and for that, stephen silva tells us he's sorry. our nicole jacobs is live in cambridge this morning, with new reaction. good morning, nicole. >> reporter: good morning to you, chris. this is where m.i.t. officer sean collier is remembered after he was shot and killed by the tsarnaev brothers. the gun handed to them was from silva. stephen silva as you mentioned, this morning he's apologizing. >> i apologize to any people or families i caused harm too, i'm deeply sorry for that. >> reporter: under those words 22-year-old stephen silva is a free man. >> i had no idea what tsarnaev's intentions were with the firearms. >> reporter: the firearm at the center of this case, the one used to kill m.i.t. officer sean

tsarnaev brothers by silva. >> i definitely would like to give my deepest condolence to the collier family, i'm very upset that the firearm was used to kill him. >> reporter: in federal court tuesday, judge mark wolff sentenced the former drug trafficker to 17 months in prison, exactly the time he's already served during dzhokhar tsarnaev's trial, he cooperated >> glad this happened. >> reporter: but city leaders see the magnitude of his involvement, hoping the idea of turning his life around proves true. >> we hoped to see him pulled to greater punishment but hopefully he learned his lesson. >> reporter: and now with parent remorse, silva walks out of federal court, apologizing and looking ahead. >> i just want folks to know we're human, we all make mistakes but anyone can change. >> reporter: sean collier 's brother released this statement to wbz regarding silva's release, he says i believe in

well, it's a little too early to be looking for santa claus, but he's spotted, something else in the skies all the way from vegas o northern -- to northern california, dozens of people saw a streak of light that looked like a shooting star and poefed -- posted videos on social media, they say it was the lights of a reentry from a rocket, pretty cool, what is that? >> too fast to be a shooting star, too long lived there. >> definitely gets your attention seeing that. what's getting our attention

>> oh, the mild weather, the non-christmas feeling temperatures! >> it really is, we're coming in to the 60s, 70 tomorrow, the question in some spots. >> these kids will be loving not having to bundle up going to school. >> maybe the fall jacket, the rain coat, couple showers moving in, the bus stop forecast here, temperatures in the 40s to start with some areas of fog, and there may be a shower along the south coast cape and islands as we head in to the evening hours, so, end of school, maybe an isolated shower or two, temperatures running in the 50s, speaking of 50s we have now tied, tied the record for number of 50 plus degree days in december, back in 1953, we also had 16 days as well, going to add more to this list over the next several days, i keep saying almost 60, we did briefly touch 60 yesterday afternoon, it is 49 degrees, at logan airport right now, 40 lawrence, running in the

like yesterday, cooler spots, 48 though in taunton, 49 providence, low to mid 40s on the cape, dense fog in spots, be aware of that, obviously, in between some of these reporting stations you can see some stars, through the thin clouds, depends on where you are, but it is locally thick from the vineyard back to taunton, plymouth, lawrence reporting a mile of visibility right now, the fog is in place, and besides that, it it's a dry start. now the clouds are in place as well, those come out ahead of showers that are advancing well to our south, that's why they take time to come in to the region, some showers break out as early as late afternoon along the south coast and cape, those will move north so it's pockets of light rain, for your evening drive, maybe a little bit of drizzle as well, after the evening commute, the heaviest rain fills in, pour for a brief period here, late this evening and overnight tonight, tomorrow morning, a leftover shower or

then the sun breaks out we go 65 to 70 degrees, remarkable warmth for christmas eve, a gusty breeze, going to be nearby on christmas day so we're still mild up in the low 60s for some of us and it looks like a nice day with the blend of sun and clouds, high pressure trying to nose its way in here, we'll keep any showers out of the region on christmas day but some of them may try to skirt back in here as we head in the upcoming weekend. so highs today, topping out in the 50s, it's a gradual rise just like during the day yesterday, 65 to 70 tomorrow, look at that, we may come in to low 70s in a couple spots, a lot of it depends on how much sunshine we can get out but i think we'll do that no problem, particularly north and west of boston, 68 in the city, this is crushing old records, the old record to beat in boston 61 degrees, look at this, christmas day itself, still the lower 60s in metro west, the sun back out turn cooler as we head in the weekend, couple showers around, may get mild again on sunday, and then feeling more like winter, at least a little bit for the start of next week.

saying this is christmas eve eve, somebody on twitter was like wait a minute, don't confuse me. but no, the day before christmas eve. just so we're clear. wasn't trying to scare anybody. >> yeah, the countdown continues, you still have time, still have time to get things done, the only thing you'll have to conend -- contend with are areas of low fog, until spots until 10:00 a.m. this morning, areas of fog that will reduce the visibility to a quarter of a mile or less. and it is widespread, current visibility is quarter of a mile in dense fog from province town to nantucket, quarter of mile in taunton, keene, orange and springfield, logan airport doing fine with 10 miles visibility, 49 degrees in the city too, 46 worcester, a lot of us running in the 40s but cooler readings north and west of town and aside from the fog the clouds are in place, but it's dry to start the day. hour by hour notice most of the afternoon spent dry too, any fog should lift by late morning but there may be some patches around

lynn with an interview with that homeowner, good morning, susie. >> reporter: good morning, chris, and kathryn, they're calling him a modern-day grinch around lynn and police are really hoping you can help them out and take a look at this surveillance video and see if you recognize this man. you can clearly see him walking up on to a homeowner's porch and uncoiling these lights, then taking them for himself. you might also be familiar with the light display that he's stealing in this video, it's a popular one, a new one this year, it's a laser light display that casts green and red little dots on to your house, they're popular with homeowners but police say they're popular with thieves too. they've been swiped from homes all across the state, we spoke with this homeowner who caught the thief on camera, here's what she had to say. >> it's unbelievable, like, why would you steal something you can buy at walmart? you know? and he was like a 35 to

sentenced him to 17 months in prison which was the time served for the former drug trafficker. the gun that tsarnaev used to kill collier came from silva months earlier. this morning he's apologizing and says he had no idea or knowledge of the brothers' plan to kill and bomb the marathon. >> horrible tragedy what happened that day, and certainly, i mean, there's no comfort for the families here today, i can tell you that. >> definitely like to give my deepest condolence to the collier family, i'm very upset ha trarm was use -- that the firearm was used to kill him. >> reporter: sean collier's brother released this statement on silva's release it reads i believe in the u.s. justice system just as sean did, happy holidays to everyone and enjoy time with your families. it is precious. that is the very latest from cambridge this morning, nicole jacobs, wbz "this morning". >> nicole thank you very much. 6:35 right now on your wednesday morning, colleen ritzer's family and friends will be allowed to wear pink to her

in court yesterday the judge ruled ritzer's family can wear the pink, when he's sentenced for the math teacher's murder. chism's lawyer requested everyone except family be barred from wearing pink to maintain quote fair and even justice, the judge denied that request but did rule that prosecutors and law enforcement will not be allowed to wear the color during the sentencing. that request by chism's lawyer is turning a few heads, and this morning, our jon keller explain why he thinks it crossed the line. >> reporter: good morning, i'm sure the attorney for the teenager convicted last week in the horrific rape and murder of danvers high school teacher colleen ritzer thinks she was doing her job by asking the judge to bar spectators at next month's sentencing hearing from wearing pink. colleen's favorite color, has become a symbol of grief and solidarity with her family. but the lawyer got it wrong. big time.

in the aaron hernandez trial ordered his victim's grieving mother not to cry in court during the proceedings for fear of influencing the jury. understandable. but a jury isn't going to sentence this convicted murderer. that will be handled by an lowe. and contrary to the defense lawyer's claim that the sentencing is quote no place for displays of any particular sentiment or emotion, end quote. that's precisely what a sentencing hearing is for. there will be emotional victim impact statements about the grievous loss suffered by colleen's loved ones and the community. and just as the judge will and should take in to account the age of the killer and any other mitigating circumstances, so too, should he factor in the atrocity of the crime, and the damage done. the state called the defense's

half of the country says it would be embarrassed to have donald trump as president, 23% of voters surveyed said they'd be proud while 24% responded neither way. the war of words between the front runners in the race for president is getting nasty at a campaign event on monday, donald trump mocked hillary clinton for running to the restroom during a commercial break during saturday's democratic debate. then trump used a vulgar term to describe how clinton lost to barack obama in 2008, clinton sidestepped the issue yesterday but said trump is cheapening the race. >> it's important to stand up to bullies wherever they are and why we shouldn't let anybody bully his way in to the presidency. >> on twitter last night, trump denied the word he used was vulgar, he says it means she was beaten badly. 6:39 on your wednesday morning, time for your daily talker, harvard researchers are taking on fashion models. >> they're calling for a ban on dangerously thin model from
