for peace on earth. a fedex nightmare on this christmas day, thanks so much for joining us this noontime. thousands of packages didn't reach their destinations in time to make it under the tree and right now many are scrambling. julie is live at one of the fedex shipping centers in boston where people can go and pick their delayed packages up, julie. >> reporter: well hopefully, chris, at least for the next hour or so customers can try their hand at the local fedex express stores, already so many have taken to social media giant. >> a few unhappy customers spent part of their christmas morning at the local fedex wanting to know where their packages were, some were lucky enough to leave with boxes in toe. nationwide thousands had to explain to loved ones why santa will be delayed this year, the shipping giant is open

at 90 yesterday, but hey, it's noontime so we'll go up another couple degrees, the record in boston is 65. i don't think we are going to get to 66 degrees in the city of boston. but nonetheless still warm. look at this fitchburg you are at 61. worcester 60. and even all of the cape in the 60s, it is glorious out, it feels wonderful. a lot of sunshine, saw a lot of of folks running today, some folks in shorts, it's just something we don't get on christmas day, but i have winter back in the forecast, i have snow in the forecast, definitely want to stay tuned, chris. >> thank you very much, we'll check in with you in 15 minute. a haverhill mother and daughter facing charges accused of sending police on a wild goose chase. the two lied about seeing a man throwing a baby off a bridge setting off a major search effort on christmas eve, nichole jacobs has a closer look. >> reporter: the police chief says this is the type of call they had to confirm either way

but in the end, they determined it was one big lie. the merrimack river on christmas day is calm, just hours after a serious call that brought search crews out by the dozens, haverhill fire chief jack piro addressed the media. >> we did every report from a woman in her daughter that witnessed this, we are not sure how credible that report is. >> reporter: a report from 42- year-old holly fowler and her 23-year-old daughter christine, from their apartment building both living next to the river at 190 washington street, a man they say walking i can't lock the bridge in haverhill with a baby carriage and a baby in toe, they reported hearing crying and then witnessing the unthinkable. >> that someone had thrown a baby off the bridge into the water. >> reporter: massachusetts state police haverhill police and fire, along with dive teams and a chopper searched the waters looking for a baby, or so they thought.
