>> a candle light vigil was held in his memory. >>reporter: this christmas tree stands not far from the spot where officer jack mcguire lost his life. proof that he will never be forgotten. >> i want to say to everybody tonight this is really nice after 5 years. >>reporter: 5 years later, the community still grieves. joining people from several communities remembering mcguire at the very spot where he fell. he was murdered responding to a robbery at the department store february 6th, 2010. >> my father obviously died right here and we miss him tremendously. especially this time of year. he was my younger broth. >>reporter: he was devoted to his family and department.

it's a loss felt by everyone but also the former police chief now retired. >> that was the worst night of my life. i had been in the service for vietnam. and this was the worst night. >>reporter: those fellow officers gave him a salute passing by in a procession. his widow found a way to thank the community. >> incredible. i just can't believe how many people are here. and i'm so pleased and jack has got a big smile on his face. huge smile. >>reporter: and tonight family and friends also want to pay triblt to current police officers acknowledging the difficult job that they all have. live, jim smith with the news.

investigators say that fire was accidental. a new carbon monoxide incident. it 47-year-old and 42-year-old both died in a bedroom. they were both discovered before noon. the district attorney tells us 2 others in that duplex went to the hospital for carbon monoxide poisoning. home invasion. police say when they showed up yesterday morning, they found the door pushed in. police went up stahoyrz find 3 men, one holding a bat and the other holding a bat. the police arrested these guys and they're expected to be in court on monday. a close call in peabody where a car crashed into a gas station.
