if you have any travel plans you'll just run into a few rain showers today. a live look at radar as we zoom into the north here, north shore and even along the coast that's where we have the steady showers, no showers moving to the east at this time. spotty showers along the south shore, all the way to preliminary -- all that colder weather all that wintry precipitation stays to the north for today. visibility low in some spots we have light fog reported. temperatures in the 40s, 45 degrees for boston, hour by hour forecast as we continue through this afternoon. most of the heavy rain gets out of here by 2 p.m. mainly dry other than some overcast skies. cool to around 50 degrees by 7:00 with additional spotty showers moving into the forecast.

up about that winter storm monday night into tuesday and our early projection for the snow totals in just a bit. stay tuned. >> all right. thank you. we do begin with some breaking news this morning. it's been another night of violent weather in the south. this time tornados ripped through the dallas area of at least 7 people have been killed in the latest round of storms in dallas. the strong winds tossed cars over as if they were toys. trees fell onto utility lines and natural gas lines ruptured. one resident said his wife left their home just minutes before it was destroyed. >> by the grade of god it ain't i'm really grateful, you know. my wife works not that far from here. if i didn't call her she'd be here right now, my

>> rescuers continuing to search for victims. flights were halted. the red cross setup shelters. the death total across the society now stands at 25 since wednesday's violent weather. and closer to home a fire has heavily damage add home in dorchester. at least six children and ten adults have been burned out of their home. fortunately everyone was able to get out safely. firefighters say the fire started in a front room of the three family building. >> upon riffle heavy fire showing in the front of the building. i immediately stuck a second alarm. it was occupied. everyone accounted for. everyone was able to safely evacuate but it eventually escalated to a four alarm fire. >> investigators believe the fire was an accident. apparently a candle may have come in contact with a flammable liquid. the chief estimates the

a mystery, police say a local hunter found human remains in a wooded area yesterday. for the time being police calling it an unattended death. the da, medical examiner and police now investigating. an officer killed in the line of duty was remembered last night. the officer served 34 years in the department. he was killed five years ago in a gun battle with robbery suspects. jim smith reports on an emotional evening for a fallen hero. >> i want to thank everybody tonight. this is really nice after five years. >> five years later a community still grieves. the people of woburn joining police from several communities remembering the officer at the very spot where he fell. he was murdered responding to a robbery at a department store the night of december 26th, 201. >> my father was a police officer, my brother obviously

officers respecting the tough job that they all have. police have now identified the man who sparked a six-hour the charges. our cameras captured the chaos as he was tackled to moments later his home went up in flames. investigators say the fire was accidents at all. three would be robbers caught in the act in east boston. a 911 call had police responding to a house christmas morning. they found the door forced open. officers went up the stars and -- stairs and found three men. all three expected in court tomorrow. well, some homeless tenants back at a shelter following a hazard mat situation. firefighters evacuate folks at the homesless coalition at about 10 p.m. on christmas eve. a service was going on upstairs. fortunately no one was hurt.

christmas tree. some goats will gladly take them off your hands. they love the trees apparently. the owner says they'll eat everything including the needles. the family says they rescued many of them and got some others as gifts. they say nothing goes to waste on their farm. >> i was wondering this is the first year that we had a real christmas tree in our house. >> so now you know what to do with it. the eat the leftover trees. that's great. you would think the needles would hurt them. >> i know. they probably do taste pretty good if you think about it. >> for the goats. >> so what's going on? so it's a soggy morning out there. >> it is, we have some rain as opposed to a wintry mix. this time of year could get tricky, but no, we have all rain showers. now, there's a system that we're keeping watch on monday night into tuesday

that's when we're going to see our first measurable snow fall all year. we have the steady showers mainly in the northeastern half of massachusetts here. the showers start to go let up actually around the boston area. and all the way to the coast the showers continue to push to the east and a couple of showers also moving to the east of bigger picture shows a wintry mix and some snow in extreme northeastern parts of new england right here but again all that is moving to the east and we'll slowly sink to the south over the course of the next several hours giving us another chance for rain later this evening. most of this afternoon will be dry of here's the hour by hour timing. 8 a.m., a lot of the showers break apart and we might have some bursts of sunshine this afternoon before more fill in and before additional showers develop. very spotty in nature, not a complete wash-out this evening but the sprinkles will be around through 7 p.m. the rain

moving off the cape, off the tonight. overnight clear skies. 7 a.m. monday a good easy morning commute. temperatures starting off in the 30s or 40s, close to 50, 45 degrees in boston. definitely experiencing all rain at this time. hour by hour forecast you see click up to 3 p.m. and we'll top off with a high of 56 degrees for boston, the south. tonight the rain comes to an end. highs for tomorrow look like what we've had for lows the last couple of nights here. we're in the 30s, that's it. the high temperature of 34 degrees in boston. that's going to set us up for some winter weather. our next storm system is going to move in but not until we get into early tuesday morning. 6 a.m. tuesday you see the snow already gathering and moving east ward

good morning. we're glad you're waking up with us this morning. some showers moving across the area. the steady rain mainly north of the mass pike and north boston at this time although some drizzle it's still being reported around boston even to the south shore, and around the cape a few aspirin ankles, we'll take some local looks where the steady rain is falling. and to our west we also have some steady showers along the connecticut river valley. those showers all push to go the east. and we have areas of fog in between the steady rain. light fog reported from boston, all across the board really. temperatures starting off in the 40s thankfully and that means we'll be experiencing the rain as aphotographed a wintry mix. on our way to a high of 56 degrees and the rain moves out early. we'll have a few spotty showers throughout the day but other

maybe a peek of sunshine before additional spotty showers develop later this evening and then things take a turn for winter am we have colder temperatures on the way monday and our first winter storm monday night into tuesday. we'll go through the snow total projections in just a few minutes. right now a quick check of our top stories. we do begin with breaking news in the dallas area, at least 7 people killed after tornados touched down. some killed in the storm, others died in related traffic accidents. you can see the destruction. homes in pieces, cars turned upside down and more severe weather is expected today including some heavy snow and massive flooding. also this morning a tribute to a fallen police officer killed in the line of duty. the officer died in 201 trying to stop three suspects after they robbed a jewelry counter at kohl's. the officer was shot in a gun battle with the suspects

his widow and family spoke at last night's candle light vigil. and six children and ten adults now temporarily homeless after a fast moving fire in dorchester. fortunately no one was hurt but firefighters tell us the fire started in a front room of the three-family building. and a christmas fire destroys a family's home in the brockton area. the father and daughter both suffer from ms. and now a family friend is calling on neighbors to lend a hand. >> it's scary when your house is on fire. >> everything is just destroyed. >> the 34-year old says the family was opening up their gifts on christmas night when a fire broke out and destroyed their second story home. >> we have no clothing, we ran out of the house with the clothes on our back. the back of the house is burnt out, our bedroomser total loss, all the dining room, the kitchen. >> the fire started by candle on the second floor. the father

new details now following a deadly carbon monoxide incident. the victims have now been identified, a 47-year old and 42-year old both died in a program. they were discovered friday afternoon. the district attorney's office tells us two others went to the hospital for poisoning. investigators still trying to pinpoint the source. a close call where a car crashed right into a gas station on route 1 south. luckily the car didn't hit the pumps and the driver wasn't hurt. the pentagon has stepped up the u.s. hit 17 targets on christmas day. the strikes were carried out by fighter aircraft bombers and remotely controlled aircraft. the pentagon says the explosive manufacturing sites and bridges were all targeted. safely. meanwhile a christmas day fire at a mosque may have been

agents say the blaze at the houston mosque had multiple points of origin, an indication used. the two alarm fire caused major daniel but to one was injured. the head of the houston chapter says there has been a recent spike in vandalism investigation. now, to campaign 2016, donald trump is claiming credit for president obama's plan to step up deportation starting next month. he made his pitch on twitter saying the president's move came only after his calls on the campaign trail to deport undocumented immigrants in the u.s.. the obama plan will reportedly focus on hundreds of families who entered the u.s. illegally since 2014. the plan was quickly condemned by democratic presidential candidates even as

line with his ideas. a homeless family gets a christmas to remember this holiday season. it happened when state officials asked them to remove an artificial christmas tree from their temporary room at a hotel. when their future landlord found out about this, he invited the family to move into their new place rent free before their actual move in date which is january 1st, but when they opened the door they found that their landlord had deck core rated the home with a 7-foot christmas tree complete with all the trimmings. that's really something else. 6:36 right now. the patriots get set to take on the jets, and a bad night at the garden. the bruins have a third period melt down with first place on the line. and as we head to break another quick check of your forecast, yeah, kind of a soggy morning out there.

in the middle of a wildfire. it's a soggy start to this sunday for some especially north of the mass pike, drizzle and fog otherwise and becoming mostly cloudy this afternoon with some breaks in the rain. temperatures rather mild and this is the last mild day before winter makes a come back ask actually starts for some of us. first winter storm coming up. but first we have weather trivia. second question of the morning what happened on has that hasn't occurred since 1977 and won't occur again until 2034. a meotor, shower, a full moon?

terrifying moments for one family as they drove into the heart of a wildfire in southern california. they thought they were a safe distance from the

they said there were no road blocks. suddenly burning flames landed on their windshield. the family says they were terrified at one point when they were surrounded by smoke and couldn't see anything. they did make it through safely. the fire is now 60 percent contained and evacuation orders have been lifted for dozens of homes. sounds like young children in that car. look at that. thanks goodness they are okay. >> yes . >> and we are dealing with soggy morning and snowflakes on the way. snow, our first storm of the season here. and all of a sudden the weather team is kind of anxious on this first winter storm here. >> of course it's the first one. >> it's the first one of the season and it looks like measurable snow for a good part of the area. thankfully not dealing with any snow or wintry mix as you head out the door today because temperatures just too warm. we're in the 40 to

showing up on live doppler radar here. the north shore still getting a if you light showers, east. we also have more rain back to the north and west here. for our friends as well as northeastern parts of massachusetts, again all this rain precipitation, all moving to the east and we have a bit of a transition zone here winter weather freezing rain and some snow on the crown of maine there and accumulations anywhere from in northeastern maine. fantastic for all the resorts up there. for us more rain continuing in the hour by hour forecast. the showers start to let up and continue to break apart later this afternoon. we have overcast conditions. some spotty showers and a couple of aspirin ankles but otherwise mainly dry. you might see a burst of sunshine and more showers pass through as a cold front moves in 7 p.m. tonight the showers taper off from north to south, and 11 p.m. clearing conditions allowing for some

temperatures dip into the lower 30s for lows tonight but for now we're in the 40s and 50s for some, 50 degrees, 45 in boston, and for this afternoon, yes, we will have some breaks of sun still pretty mild temperatures in the low to mid-50s for most. a couple of spots hitting the lower 60s. that's not out of the question. lows tonight around the freezing mark with areas to the north and west in the 20s. highs tomorrow looking similar to what we'll have overnight for lows but only 34 degrees a shock to the system days. we've been so spoiled but now actually we will be very tomorrow. and this all ahead of our next system that's west. that's where they're conditions. for us we'll get some measurable snow between mid-night and 7 a.m. on tuesday. temperatures playing a huge role

it looks like first snow with some accumulation of two to four inches north of the loop. probable snow once you get to the north here four to 8-inch range but south more of a snow sleet mix coating to two inches until you get to the cape may be a few flakes mixing in okay. and and all of this snow very tricky system here with those temperatures. and we'll continue to tweak that snow fall potential map. we'll have another look at the forecast models later tonight, monday morning and maybe all hands on deck by tuesday morning. stay tuned. and weather trivia time. the question of the morning what happened on christmas that hasn't occurred since 1977 and won't occur again until 2034, what do you think? >> our audio guy was so nice he

examiner and upton police are investigating. and at least 16 people including 10 children whyer looking for a new home after a fire in dorchester. the blaze started in the front room of the three-family home. and it appears a candle came into contact with something flammable. no one was hurt but the damage is estimated at three quarters of a million. and a special tribute to a woburn officer killed in the line of duty. the officer served 34 years in the department before he was killed five years ago in a shootout with robbery suspects. and jim smith takes us to last night's emotional vigil. >> and i want to thank everyone tonight. this is nice after five years. >> reporter: five years later, a community still grieves. the people of woburn joining police from several communities remembering jack mcgwire at the spot where he fell.

we're talking with the house speaker robert deleo. earlier this month, you and house ways and means chairman brian dempsy said new taxes for 2016 are off of the table and don't bother. why? >> i think similar to last year, i think when we take a look in terms of the economic condition of the commonwealth, we look in terms of what families are going through right now. quite frankly, i don't think that any further tax burden on families is helpful. and, obviously, it's not helpful to them. they're trying to raise a family, you know, and pay their bills and the same thing with our businesses. we're at a stage where we're trying to develop more so, massachusetts bringing businesses in and keep businesses here. i think to raise the tax burden on them as well and again, you know, they could look elsewhere

>> and that has been a fairly the recent years. the latest revenue forecast in the coming year is not that robust and there is a new spending on the table on the mbta and fighting opioid abuse. how are they adding up, sir? >> first of all, on the opioid abuse, we have addressed that somewhat and one of the first items we'll take up as a house is going to be talking about what we're going to do with the funds and as we have done in the past. we'll provide more betting and counseling. how are we going to address the present issues and all-out war against opioid abuse and i, as i stated before and i haven't seen anything to change my mind as of now, i want to see
