that rose around midday, we changed over to rainfall, now the sub freezing temps are making a fast move to the south, we saw a few accidents, it does not take much ice to create a a lot of issues on the road. so looking at temperatures, we've got low to mid-20s across southern new hampshire, 26 most of the day. boston down to 30 degrees, here you see that front, snaking its way south, it's lost a little bit of its momentum over the last hour or so, so it's still working its way down toward mansfield and tauton, it will getaway down to the south coast before it stops with the sub freezing temperatures and much milder across the cape and islands, nantucket 50 degrees. not expecting a flash freeze to move in on these locations. the bottom line is there is still a little bit of drizzle, freezing rain advisories out for much of the region here, very dangerous travel conditions, you know, it's

drizzle but a little glaze of ice and many of you have been sending info tows and reports and noting the changing conditions, i want to make sure everyone treats that as a treacherous situation. also we have pockets of fog, locally pretty dense right now, boston down to half mile visibility, fog will be an issue before drier air works in again. here are your headlines, that flash freeze with sub freezing temps quickly moving to the south, earlier on today becoming ice as we head through this evening and overnight, we'll linger into tomorrow morning's commute. some melting tomorrow, getting into the 30s, whos in the southern part of the state, milder on thursday so an opportunity to get some of of this ice out of the way, we can imagine that that we've started winter in and out of this freeze cycle until everything dries out, we'll take a full look at new year's eve forecast, the weekend coming up

the snow and the sleet have stopped, the roads are slick, temperatures are dropping, causing spots to freeze and that is causing people to spin out, you can see backups on the roads, 93, 90, route 16, red in there. here is a better look more specifically at the roads, jim armstrong is driving around, 95 north in burlington, how are the roads looking out there? >> reporter: well, in a word, liam, bad. they are bad and they are getting a little bit worse unfortunately for the reason that eric was just describing here, the gauge in our cartels us it is 26 degrees outside right now, the roads have been slick are freezing over and doing so in a hurry and causing a lot of accidents, we are on 95 north exit 34 in burlington, there is a fresh accident, i can see flashing lights, we passed earlier another bigger accident much worse 95 southbound also in burlington before exit 329 a there, so it

different problems in the same stretch of 995 north and south here in burlington. i can see some blue lights down there from what i believe is a new accident, but again a lot of problems throughout this area again because wet conditions on the road, freezing so quickly as the temperatures drop right in the middle of this evening's commute. >> jim, thank you, stay safe out there. we want to continue our team coverage, in fitch berg -- fitchburg, how are things looking out there. >> reporter: plowing seemed to get off to a sporadic start to make a mid afternoon come back, with the temperature dropping down at 23 currently, refreeze is likely to be a problem overnight, making steep streets even more of an adventure. -- adventure. julian had a heck of a time just trying to get out of his

a they faced their first test since last year's epic melt down, snow and sleet causing minor delays today, our bill shields is live at the jfk u mass t stop in dorchester, this is a dry run for the t. >> reporter: yeah, it's kind of a dry run, that is a good way to put it, how many times last year were we here on the redline of jfk or quincy center or braintree with all problems that they were facing this so here we get a little snow storm today, what happens? well, have a couple of glitches on the redline and the green line. in quincy center this morning the redline trains were rolling just not so fast or on time. down the line here at the jfk stop in dorchester, a switch and malfunction. >> they had enough time to prepare for it, it's ridiculous, every weekend something with the redline. so i'm just frustrated. >> reporter: during last february's record snow fall the

apprehended ethan couch and his mother tonya in puerto viarta, the 18-year-old tried to disguise himself, his blond hair dyed brown when he was caught. the pair disappeared after couch missed a meeting with his probation officer. they planned to disappear that they even had something that was almost i can't kin to going a away party before they left town. >> ethan couch was given probation and no jail time two years ago after killing four crash. during the trial, a psychologist testified that the teen suffered from "affluenza" suggests his parents' wealth left him without a sense of responsibility. to transfer couch's case to an adult court. >> now that he is in custody, what do you want to happen to oath in couch this time around. accountable. mother. that is a third degree felony
