by the afternoon and breaks of sun and the real feel is in the 30s through the day today a couple flurries possible through the evening. with temperatures cooling into the mid-30s. we have got a week toned talk about all the details -- weekend to talk about all the details coming up. we begin with developing news. an atv crash sends three people including a child to the hospital. nicole jacobs is live in fitchburg with the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you kathryn. that was a serious atv crash. i can tell you right now that investigators inside the police department say this is a state police investigation. i want to get you a video from ashburnham hill road a few miles away from the police department. two atvs were involved three people were taken to the hospital. one of them we are told a small child. it's unclear the extend of the injuries for the individuals or

however, we are told it's still under investigation. the reconstruction officer who was on the scene has not completed the report at the time we called the state police barracks in holden. but we are told once that report is complete, we should learn more about the crash that happened late last night. but again, it's still under investigation. when we learn more, we will certainly pass it along to you. live in fitchburg nicole jacobs wbz this morning. >> thanks. more developing news this morning many water pressurissues making it ditch for fire fight -- pressure issues making it difficult for firefighters in spencer. sh video shows the wall of flames. the homeowner tells the worcester telegram no one was there at the time of the fire and there were no family pets inside either. no word on what sparked the fire. and new this morning, police in new bedford investigating a deadly shooting on new year's eve. officers say a man in his 20s was shot on pleasant street around 7:30.

temperatures in the 20s as we head into the start of next week. so hour by hour today, the clouds part for sun. they will build back in late in the day and a couple snow showers and flurries coming off some of the lake-effect bands possible even a little later south shore to the cape around 9, 10a now stray flurries are possible. accumulation map deeper blues indicate 3 to 6 inches northern green mountains and northern white mountains and then as you extend into northwest main there may be amounts to top out over 6 inches in the summits. highs today up around 40. so what you see is what you get. up by a few degrees and that's it. winds gusty this afternoon. that max it feel like it's in the 30s. and tomorrow, and sunday, pretty uniformed. upper 30s to around 40. the biggest difference you will notice is sunday won't feel as cold because the wind won't be as strong. monday is cold. only in the upper 20s and the biggest thing to watch here in

parts of the country dealing with serious flooding. it feels like it is never ending. >> it's not. mississippi has been spilling over the banks and this is the deal. it takes several days for the water to recede and an though it's dry now, this is all moving downstream and putting more cities on alert. this is some of the damage more than a dozen people unfortunately lost their lives. rare wintertime flooding was spurred by over 10 inches of rain over a 3 -day period across missouri and illinois and national guard is out stacking sandbags and trying to get road back opened. but. >> the timing of this this time of year it's unusual. >> it's unusual. this is normally what you see in a springtime. >> exactly. >> and historic and just unfortunate around the holidays. so, thankfully our weather is quiet here at home. >> yep it's clear and calm so totally a different scene. >> cooperative for the fireworks and celebrations last night. and what a month of december it was. temperatures well above average. in fact it was the warmest ever

of boston and across most of the northeast and mid atlantic. 45.3 degrees is what the mean temperature end up being warmest ever by several degrees. look at december we ended up every red box indicates an above normal day. one slightly cooler than normal day and that was on december 1st. so it's been an unseasonably warm stretch and that continues this morning. the average high temperature for january 1st is 37. and we are at 37 right now. we will come up by a few more later this afternoon. 31 in worcester. and middle 30s for most of the rest of us. uniformed because we have had a deck of clouds that's been sitting over us. helps to keep temperatures up a little bit. i do anticipate the clouds to thin out and break apart a little bit. give away to sunshine today. and in spots. meanwhile there are lake-effect snow band back to the west. rain showers to the south. we don't have to worry about either of those. although, there may be a stray flurry and upper level energy swings through this evening.

ruled out and won't amount to a whole lot but you may see a couple flakes this evening. overnight tonight, skies will be mainly clear and chilly. we are at the time of the year we get the melting during the day where there's snow pack and sleet from earlier during the week. so the melting and refreeze just watch out for slick spots and some of the untreated surfaces. by the time we get to sunday, northern new england gets scattered snow showers and squalls and that's the leading edge of cold air for the start of next week. notice there won't be a ton of moisture with it as it comes through us but will usher in temperatures only in the 20s. as we head into the start of next week. so hour by hour notice the clouds do clear out. lake-effect snow bands and couple snow showers may develop here through the evening hours. again, south of boston back to the cape and 9, 10 you see a couple flakes mixed in and don't want that to catch you off guard. heading north, big weekend right? temperatures in the 30s dropping into the 20s. we have started to see things get going in ski country and they will be additional amounts

figure out what caused the crash. we will have a live report fromfitchburg with the latest on the investigation coming up. in spencer no one was hurt in the house fire on main street that you are looking at, but firefighters had an especially tough time getting it under control because of water pressure issues. worcester telegram reports the back of the home suffered extensive damage. the traffic on route 9 has to be diverted for two hours. a rochester new york man arrested charged with plotting a violent attack on new year eve. 25 -year-old emanuel lutchman is in custody right now. this is after a federal court can appearance yesterday. investigators say he planned to use a machete and other knives to attack a restaurant in the hopes of winning over members of isis. this morn the mother of the so-called -- morning the mother of the so- called affluenza team is behind bars after being deported from mexico. she remained jailed until officer can take her backs to texas which likely won't happen until next week. texas prosecutors charged tonya couch with hindering
