year to you let's look live this noontime. you can see a mix of sun and clouds and just poked our heads outside and we saw the clouds are building back in out to the west danielle says they will move this way i am chris mckinnon. >> i am kathryn hauser. today may be nice but 2016 will usher in cold air danielle is here to explain all that. what are we talking about. >> monday and tuesday you guys temperatures are not going to get out of the 20s. and the wind chills are going to be a shock as we head into monday and tuesday morning. right now not too bad. temperatures 41 above average for the first day of the new year. wind out of the west at 15 miles per hour and that breeze is making it feel colder. so the real feel in the city is 33 degrees. and despite the fact we have managed lower 40s from taunton to providence. 35 in worcester and upper 30s to keen. the clouds will build back in and have done so along central

off to the west we have lake- effect snow band setting up. these are going to actually try to make their way into western new england. birk shiers a couple flurries between. >> a -- now and 3 p.m. temperatures will be in the mid to upper 30s through the earning and some of the snow showers may make their way all the way into eastern massachusetts between about the 5 to 9 p.m. time frame. just don't want you to be caught off guard by these. may drop a coating in some spots as they come on through quickly from west to east. and we clear out tonight and tos-- 20s there. could be a couple icy patches melting and refreeze. weekend is looking good. upper 30s real feel around 30 tomorrow and less wind on sunday. we will talk more about that arctic blast and snow showers couple minutes. >> thanks very much danielle. from the field to the ice gillette makes a transformation to welcome the winter classic

by the way the plunge has been happening for more than 110 years. >> it looks chilly. boston new year's celebrations are not over yet. first night events are stretching into the afternoon. first day events are being held at copley square including music and dancing and magic show and a lot of music too. and in case you missed it boston ushered in 2016 with fireworks and the crew got into the action. this was so neat to see putting up a large 16 for 2016 on the side of the building. break news two people dead after a gunman opens fire in a popular tel aviv bar. three other people were injured in that shooting and the gunmen did get away. police are unsure of what the motive is. also developing this noon, four people rushed to the hospital after a new year's eve

two injured are children. we have been following this all morning and nicole jacobs is live with the very latest this noon. >> reporter: we have learned in the last the few minutes these were fathers and sons pared on the atvs all we are told by state police were taken to umass medical center in worcester. one of them was way leg amputation. with a leg amputation. snow packs the edges lined with trees. it's where authorities say two atvs crashed thursday and the sunrise bringing light to remnants of the vehicles where just hours earlier they sprawled across the road mangled. massachusetts state police told wbz two adults were driving the atvs with children riding along. when at some point after 9 p.m., the two crashed and all four riders were ejected. >> when they arrived on scene,there were four people

four males ages 32, 21, and i believe 7 and 6. >> reporter: serious injuries for three authorities say life- threatening injuries for one of the adults. it's a new year's eve crash still under investigation. where questions remain. the names of those involved in the crash have not been released but we are told that it's under investigation. as far as charges that has yet to be determined. live in fitchburg nicole jacobs wbz news. >> thank you. breaking news right now at noon we learned this, natalie cole the daughter of jazz great in the king cole has died. there are few details right now. old. the story for you. also at noon, water pressure issues make it difficult for fire fighters in night fire.

flames on main street. fire crews from several towns had to be called in. the homeowner tells the worcester telegram no one was there at the time of the fire. flames. police in new bedford investigating a a deadly shooting officers say a man in his 20s was shot on pleasant street around 7:30 last night. investigators spent the night talking to witnesses so far no arrest have been made and the victim's name has not been released. andover man is free on bal accused of point -- on bail accused of pointing a gun at a know plow driver. he pointed the unhoededed gun at snowplow driver's head during tuesday's storm. prosecutors didn't want the judge to let him go free but his attorney insisted it was self-defense. >> the intent was to protect himself. he put it in his pocket. it's not like he got out of the car brandishing the wellon -- weapon.

he must stay away from the plow driver and guns. the new year medford has a new mayor. michael mcglynn's last day was yesterday he was the city's longest serving mayor. he awarded 13 keys and donated artifacts to the historical society and signing paperwork to foster the crystal campbell peace garden. this is the first time since 1956 that neither mcglynn or his father held office. we are getting a look at the very first 2016 baby here in the bay state. >> look at carl leeta skaza born at 12:02 in worcester. pounds 8 ounces. all are doing great. this is a first child for the family. >> she is a peanut congrats to them. turns terrifying.

todayer for fighters are still trying to put out hot spots in the massive fire that engulfed a dubai skyscraper. more than a dozen people suffered minor injuries. official say the fire appears to have started on the 20th floor of the luxury hotel. despite the fire, dubai official went on with a fireworks display last night at the a nearby building. now at noon record breaking flooding is happening in the midwest. the mississippi ohio and arkansas rivers are all reaching historic levels.

the floods caused at least 22 deaths. david begnaud reports. >> reporter: southwest missouri towns are under water. roads look like rivers and homes some are nearly submerged. >> we are at a flood stage of 42.31 feet so it's going to go down but that's a lot of water the levey is holding right now -- levee is holding right now. >> reporter: in arnold missouri hundreds are finding themselves without a home. and temperatures are now dropping below freezing. >> until this goes down, and they can come and check our homes and make sure they are safe, we can't live in them. so we are going to be out of a place to stay probably for a couple weeks at least. >> okay. keep us updated thank you. >> reporter: the thorn family has lost their home in arnold due to the flooding. but for linda thorn, this new year brings a sense of hope. >> oh my lord. it's a new beginning. i got a great grand baby coming in. >> reporter: david begnaud st.

turning to the weather at home, kind of a sunny but gray day and depends on where you are really. this is a live look at gillette stadium the puck will drop in less than an hour on the winter classic but will the weather cooperate? sound like it will. >> a and-- and a lot of people are out there and my best friend is out there and wants know what the weather is going to be. >> i think it's classic weather for the classic. highs in the 30s and wind chills in the 30s right now. so it could be a lot worse this time of the year. we know that much. the real feel is 25 in spot. boston down to chatham the real feel temperatures in the lower 30s right now that's pretty must case acrosses region. yes absolutely. but it's winder time so -- much. temperature 41 in boston. so, with that wind factored in that's why it feels colder.

low 40s along the south coast. and we are going to gradually cruise back this afternoon. so any sunshine the clouds will continue to billow and build in here at times. and as we head through the evening, notice at 7, put a couple snowflakes in here because what we are watching is a threat for a couple of snow showers really what's happening here as we have lake-effect bands they are coming off the lake ontario and erie. some may make their way into massachusetts. they get a little boost of energy as they come east. so notice by 6 p.m., couple brief snow showers here. the city briefly around 7:hundred and south of boston -- 7:00 and south of boston between 8 and 9. i don't think it will slow you down a lot but don't be caught off guard if you see flakes in a few communities get a quick coating heading through the evening. doom back -- zoom back to the now. get the wind going and warmer air and colder air blowing over the warmer water picking up the

other than that, though, there's not a lot going on. brief snow shower this evening may briefly reduce visibilities and temperatures won't be that cold so it sh have no problem on a treated surface to melt on tomorrow looks like a nice start to the weekend. it will be a little blustery. the winds will gust occasionally over 20 miles per 30. and sunday don't think we will feel as cold because the wind will be a little less. by the way cold shot of air brings some snow showers and squalls to northern new england cold as we head into monday. this is a early look but you will get the gift. monday morning -- gist. monday morning single digits and teens for a lot of us heading into tuesday, that's when the heart of it comes in. so we are talking about real feel temperatures subzero as we head into tuesday morning. northern new england temperatures in the 20s with snow showers could be 3 to 6 inches in mountains of northern

today we are learning more about the adorable new polar bear addition to the columbus zoo. >> you might remember we told you that the cub born in november was abandoned by her mother. so the zoo staff took over and have been hand feeding her ever since. experts say the cub progressing nicely and now weighs a little over 6 pounds. and 17 1/2 inches long. >> that's just cute right there. cuteness on another level. >> it is. >> if only they would stay that small. >> oh. >> so cute. >> feel right at home with the chilly weather. >> the cold air coming in it's going to be shock on monday and tuesday, but until then weekend is look pretty good. just watch for snow shower 5 to 9 p.m. time frame today may drop a quick coating and ocean effect snow showers to cape ann to cape cod on monday and rebounding a little bit towards the middle part of the week. >> that's it for us at noon join us at the 5. we will see you monday morning at 4:30.
