whole weather team is excited on tuesday morning, we accumulated .9 inches of snowfall at logan airport. frosty start, but no snow falling from the sky nothing heavy at least 32 degrees in boston, 30 degrees taunton. and feels worse than that because the wind is fairly strong from the west your real feel temps, 23 degrees, worcester feeling like 23, lawrence 23, want that extra layer as you head out the door. satellite and radar picture shows clouds in the boston area we're all clear on the cape and islands, and for our friends in ski country you'll see more snow showers over the course of this morning into this afternoon but for us here in boston to bedford to taunton, mainly dry, lower 40s in that hour by hour forecast, mix of sun and clouds, yes but the chance for a flurry passing by later today. the wind stays fairly strong

to what's in store for us monday and tuesday, where we'll see highs in the 20s coming up. all right thank you. a scare in the sky over logan airport. >> looks like we have a drone off to our right about 700 feet, just saw it a few seconds ago. >> a pilot says a drone flew in the path of his jet moments before landing the latest in the series of midair scares that have the faa cracking down on drone users. this is the second drone reported within a week. as katie reports officials report the problem is only going to get worse. >> reporter: a jetblue crew had a distraction, a drone. >> tower fyi, looks like we have a drone off to our right about 700 feet spotted a few seconds ago. the plane landed safety,

northeast of the airport under faa rules drones must stay 5- miles away from airports and only allowed 400 feet. and reported a drone within the no fly zone and at about 800 feet, that flight too landed without a problem. i have heard bad stuff about that. like interference. >> with increasing popularity the faa requires owners register their drones. >> accidents, mishaps controlling air spaces is going to be a bigger issue. passengers are wrapping their heads around technology. >> i think it is a cool advancement in technology. locally, not really concerned. yeah. i've seen a few things on the news. the faa received 100 reports each month around the country about drones flying near planes on the first of the year, the numbers are already adding up. the faa was notified about the drone siting and state

wbz this morning. we are following a developing story out of essex, both men were hit in front of the ck pearl restaurant being treated at beverly hospital. state police are now investigating that crash. robbed and threatened with a needle a man walks right into an unconventional weapon on the clerk. police say the robbery caught on camera helped them break open several cases. >> reporter: on christmas eve, the suspect walks in the door and right up to the clerk that item he is pulling out, hypodermic needle, jabs it at the clerk and raids the register. >> like four times in a row, he is completely scared of working here. >> this man didn't want his face shown. he works at the andrew's square and says this clerk has quit he has been robbed four times now on the jab.

with a knife then the fourth came with a needle. the surveillance video of this man and woman led boston police to four suspects, they've arrested angel on armed robbery and bridget on drug dealing as well as two of their friends on outstanding warrants. as for the store itself the owner decided to close all together at the end of january they've lost $2,000 in the four robberies and say the area is simply too dangerous. >> the clerk was not injured in the attack and get this boston police say when they eventually caught those suspects, they were carrying crowbars and a hypodermic needle and may have been preparing to strike again. this morning four people including two young children are still being treated for serious injuries from an atv collision in fitchburg, one lost his leg in an accident.

names of anyone involved. investigators suspect a wood stove sparked a house fire in spencer, fire crews had an especially difficult time getting under control on thursday because of low water pressure on scene. no one was home when the fire started. right now a massive man hunt is underway for the person who opened fire on a popular bar in israel. you can see customers at the tel aviv location diving for cover. israeli media reports the shooter was an arab and his father recognized him from surveillance footage. police have not confirmed or denied those details. the worst of the dangerous winter flooding is over for now in the st. louis area, flood waters are starting to recede as well. now people who live there are faced with a massive clean up on friday, 2 more levies on the mississippi river gave way making at least 11 that have failed total. the flooding was caused by 10

week and it is blamed for 22 deaths. from water to ice and a daring rescue, three good samaritans didn't hesitate to help when they spotted a boy trapped and in trouble in an icy pond. he grabbed near by neighbors and quickly formed a human chain to reach the child. the water was freezing making every second count. >> i decided to just break the ice as i walked out there and grabbed him. >> thanks to their quick action, that 9-year-old boy is doing just fine now. >> well it is one of the coolest events of all seasons, coming up how you can get involved in this year's hot stove, cool music live

thanks for coming in. >> thanks for having me. >> how long has this been in existance. >> we started the foundation named later back in 2005, in that period of after glow after the red sox won their championships and we are at an all time high and thought we'd capitollize. running as gm and turned that into a force raising money and giving it away to charity. tell us about the charity you raised the moneyfor. we target our funds at organizations around boston serving disadvantage youth. give us an idea some of the benefits that the disadvantage youth get from all their money do? >> we have hand picked organizations we have relationships with and doing good work in the community organizations like horizons for homeless children, many of the

personal connection to, volunteered and worked with some as a social worker. must be so rewarding, great charities, obviously you care so much about those. tell us a little bit about this great event that you have coming up sounds pretty cool. hot stove, cool music right? that's our primary fundraiser doing it for 15 years, it is a music concert on commonwealth avenue, great local artist from boston baseball players pretending to be musicians you've heard how all athletes would like to be musicians and musicians would like to be athletes i found out there is truth to that. and we'll have people like bernie williams proving they can get along when it comes to charities. >> he is a guitarist nominated for latin grammys as a guitar jake peevy.

are well above normal for temperatures, we've pretty muff avoided winter until now all of the sudden we flipped the switch and had our first snowfall according to logan airport the airport received inches of snow there we did have rain the last couple of days temperatures backup to near average or slightly above normal. december just running a tad below temperatures, december temperatures, yes, very warm, warmer than normal the entire month wrapped up with 10.6 degrees above average. boston back to seasonal temperatures 32 degrees, real feel temp at 23 degrees with that wind from the west at 12 miles per hour mixed in it feels miserable out there. i'll be honest, 30 degrees in taunton, 31 degrees lawrence, it is relative here on a normal winter, compared to say

feels just very, very cold in worcester, 16 degrees for your temperatures feeling like 23 in taunton, 21 degrees. hour by hour forecast, not warming up, temperatures remain in the 30s for the rest of the afternoon. 36 degrees, for the noon hour to be exact we hold with 37 degrees by 3:00. mix of sun and clouds today, chance for a flurry but the temperatures will be the main store today 38 degrees, feeling more like 30 degrees at times with winds staying strong from the west gusts up to 25 miles per hour. lows tonight in the 30s and 20s once again a frosty start to your day tomorrow morning, tomorrow afternoon reaching the upper 30s and gaining a couple degrees here. if you're heading to the north, anywhere skiing well it is going to be fantastic weather finally snow showers and cold temperatures in the upper 20s both today and tomorrow. hour by hour forecast keep it dry for you for the rest of

through sunday morning 9 a.m. low pressure system and arctic cold front will push our way sunday night still looking dry, once the front passes through monday morning then the wind direction changes a bit we'll get enough of a little bit of a breeze coming off the ocean that will help to trigger a couple snow showers, especially along the cape and islands and cold, cold temperatures, any snow that develops that ocean affect snow will be fluffy that will help to get us decent accumulations depending where those snow bands set up plymouth county, the cape and islands talking about 1 to 3 inches of snow. real feel temperatures here, monday night single digits for a lot of folks tuesday morning dangerous cold with the real feel temperatures predicted to be below zero and tuesday afternoon with an actual high of 20 degrees feel more like 10 degrees.

like 16 degrees, feels like 23 degrees in boston, 23 degrees in chatham. blocked from that wind. wind coming from the west gusts up to 25 miles per hour we'll continue to keep the wind around this afternoon. picture just wanted to show you we have clouds moving into the boston area trying to see a few flurries across the board here but most of the action is going to be well to the north and west with lake effect snow showers making their way into the brookshires falling apart before they reef boston. we keep flurries in the forecast but most of us will be mixed with sun and clouds, feeling colder with the winds staying rather strong in just a few minutes i have that arctic air from monday and tuesday, when we could see ocean affect flurries and snow showers in just a bit. thank you checking our top stories on this saturday for the second time in a week pilots are report ago close

airport. this time it was a jetblue flight crew that called it to the air traffic control tower the faa says drones are becoming popular with amateurs who are now required to register. drones are not allowed within 5- miles of airports and must stay below 400 feet altitude. police made four arrests in an armed robbery the weapon of choice a hypodermic needle investigators say the suspect jabbed the needle at the clerk and made off with the cash in the register the clerk wasn't hurt, boston police say they were carrying crowbars and another needle. authorities believe they were preparing to strike again. do you want to start the new year $300 million richer? of course you do. probably won't happen odds aren't deterring people from buying power ball tickets

12th largest in power ball history. it's becoming an unwelcome tradition vandels striking a west bridgewater cemetery. these crimes are taking a toll on family. this is now the fifth time this cemetery has been hit in 5 years. but this by far is the worst damage. most of it can't be repaired. >> it is heartbreaking. i pulled in here expecting to see a couple stones overseeing the carnage everywhere, it is all i wanted to do was burst into tears. . my grand grandmother's stone was one of them. >> she oversees the cemetery, simply had enough. >> unfortunately it is one step forward, two steps back like we start to get doing and more damage and more damage. the pleasant hill cemetery is targeted time after time after time.

make a difference helping homeless families on this special edition of our traditional help for the holiday segment where we feature a nonprofit organization that has done a great job offering much-needed services to our community and this is actually your turn to make a difference by helping them so they can continue helping others today we are featuring a homeless shelter which opened its doors almost 30 years ago with the mission of helping families gain the education, and the skills they need to permanently lift themselves out of poverty. joining us, executive director. thank you for having us here. tell us a little bit first of all, what exactly is it that you do? >> thanks to the dedicated

as family, serve as family and we provide with the skills they need so that they will be sustainable throughout their life. every time i think about it, i smile because i've been there so many times, and i've seen the children. obviously we've donated toys at a personal level and i've seen their little faces and you've walked me through the whole shelter. specifically the one in jamaica, that was your very first one correct? >> correct. well actually we started out in the basement of a church, that was our pilot program and then a year later we move into jamaica plane. >> you've been there ever since. it is so good for you to actually give us good news. give us the good news the fact that there have been growth. >> yes, there has thanks to all the support like yourself. you are considered part of the family. we have many supporters that have supported throughout the

we started out with four families and now we serve 109 families and by next year we should be serving 118 families. >> wow. we have provided housing to help families find housing over close to 2000 families and continue to do more because others, we have more families now so the numbers grow quickly. obviously the fact that there is growth means there is a big need out there right? >> there is still a need, but thanks to massachusetts i consider to be the very best in serving the homeless, okay, in the city of boston as well. they are very, very good at that. the record shows us. more and more families come to this state because of that situation you know, the

had difficulties with their partners or just don't have housing wherever they are. they come to the state. despite that we are providing good services to the families across the board. we are not the only shelter there are plenty of shelters. we have a great record but the economic downturn that we had obviously sort of trigger more families into the edge of becoming homeless. we started out with single mothers and children now we have couples and children. >> it is good because you are changing based upon their needs. also you have homes now in lawrence. you started in boston and homes in lawrence where there is a lot of latinos in lawrence. >> there is a combination of everything in lawrence, mostly latinos. we get referrals from the

this is a nice balance. so, this specific segment is so that our viewers will have an opportunity to help you guys because you've done such a great job throughout the years, not just this year. what are some of the things that you guys need? anything specific. >> if they can give giftcertificates to the families that would be helpful that way they can buy whatever they need, we'd be happy to receive that of course funding always helps and we have been in a capitol campaign in getting new places, capitol campaign funding is great help as well in order for us to serve much better. >> they can always call you guys the number is at the top of the screen. >> they can put together a gift package something you know specific for families.
