>>reporter: boston neighbor says she has known him for most of his life. >>reporter: what was your reaction when you heard? >> oh my, i could not speak. i was shocked. it brings it home, my next-door neighbor. >>reporter: he is no stranger to public service his family says he comes from a line of firefighters including his father, grandfather and uncle. police say officer stokinger dealer friday morning when he was shot in the leg. the lead shooter, 27 -year-old grant headley, a convicted felon come out on probation for selling drugs when a shot officer stokinger. he was later caught and arrested. >> i just pray for him. i am so thankful that he will be well soon and able to go back to the duty he loves to do. >>reporter: the police department thanking the public
