around new england triggering some roadway floods in some areas. feels more like spring them winter. i am ken macleod. >> and when katie price. let's get to barry burbank who has been tracking the rain. >> we will get a little more is a couple showers coming from the west. the heavy rain from earlier is pretty much offshore. we have a -- we have a another band in central massachusetts producing a few isolated downpours. and even a couple flashes of lightning here, especially through western new hampshire and into vermont. that's all headed our way but it looks like a lot of it will weaken before it heads our way. meantime, 540 in boston. 600 in ignored. so close to a record temperature. we will probably have a record high temperature in the next hour or so as the warm floods

look so much colder it is to the west. 290 in buffalo, 250 in cleveland. don't worry about any freezing overnight but overnight lows by don will be in the 30s. it will feel like the lower 20s. big changes coming up. strong winds brought down trees and power lines across the area. a couple large limbs snapped off. this large tree in fairhaven pulled down some wires and in hall, wind knocked out a transformer, knocking out power for the entire town. officials hope to have that fixed by 11:00. rain and hail led to flash flooding in some areas. this driver needed help after her car stalled in chelsea. the wind driven rain is causing problems in several spots. jim smith is alive near shore drive. >> reporter: the rain seems to

there are still lingering trouble spots that everybody should be aware of. here is one. i want to get out of the way and show you one entire lane being taken up by some standing water. unfortunately, it's a scene that is being repeated throughout the area tonight. from the north shore to the south coast, eastern massachusetts was pelted with a driving, daylong rain and wind storm. the high tide here in lynn brought lot -- brought rough seas. if you lobster traps washed up on shore but no major problems. >> it's crazy because we have been inside the house all day and didn't want to come out because it was so stormy. >> reporter: in new bedford, flooding plagued downtown as torrential rain backed up storm drains, creating a traffic mess. in one case, winds brought down a tree on top of power lines.

hard to find here in chelsea. the flooding came too quickly for at least one driver who was stranded and needed a tow. at least it wasn't snow. >> it would be a lot worse if it was snow. i can't really complain too much. >>reporter: i prefer snow because i am more of a winter guy.>>reporter: okay, i guess it depends on who you talk to as far as rain versus no. i think i agree. i am very glad this was not snow. if it was rain instead of snow, this would have been something. jim smith, wbz news. developing story from sturbridge. investigators searched for the cause of a fire. they gutted part of a historic hotel complex.

>> reporter: the images are still raw for the survivors. >> i was physically shaking at 4 am.>> it's horrifying to come see that. >> reporter: a motel on the property of the historic public house in sturbridge catches fire early sunday morning. >> you saw the fire trucks in the parking lot, the smoke. >> reporter: two forcefully occupied and 16 rooms destroyed. >> they were yelling for the firemen to come get me. i had to climb down a ladder. >> thankfully, all our guests were out safely. >> reporter: this building isn't the only total loss. several cars also may have been destroyed. >> my rearview mirror is melted and my headlight -- headlights burned. >> reporter: dana was one of at least 20 guests staying

women -- way meant -- we're told their injuries are not life-threatening. she said for arraignment tomorrow. police have arrested a driver for that deadly hit-and- run crash early yesterday morning. 21-year-old vincent green is charged with motor vehicle homicide and leaving the scene of the accident, among other things. police say green was driving recklessly when he plowed into a 56-year-old man and never stopped. that victim later died at the hospital. the boston's pride women's hockey team took to the ice for the first time since a teammate suffered an injury on new year's day. denna laing suffered a serious spinal injury of the classic. luisa is live in austin. she must have been on the minds of her teammates today. >> reporter: obviously but these women are competitive athletes. they played like it and you just had to take one look at the score, the prize-winning 8-

see a sense of solidarity as they played for an injured teammate. before the game, there was a moment of silence in honor of the prize player, denna laing. and then an announcement that every women's national hockey league player will wear number 24 on the left side of their helmets closest to their hearts. the boston pride player suffered a severe spinal cord injury two weeks ago when she struck the boards at gillette stadium before the nhl winter classic. her parents released a statement saying she has limited movement in her arms and no feeling in her legs. we actually caught up with the river player who is there the day lighting was injured who said this is -- laying -- lang was injured who said this must

campaign 2016, less than a month before voters cast the first ballots in the race for president. the latest polls show a tightening democratic race. hillary clinton is hanging onto a small lead 48-45 with bernie sanders but in new hampshire, clinton trails 46 to 50%. clinton downplayed those numbers. >> polls go up and go down. i stay pretty focused on what we have to do to build on the progress of the obama administration but go even further. >> reporter: -- >> the iowa caucus is on february 1. new hampshire holds it's on february 9. the future of the green line expansion will top the agenda when officials meet tomorrow. the t has planned for years to expand trolley service to somerville and medford but cost estimates have gone up dramatically to over $3 billion. so, officials must decide whether to scale back the

-- scrap it entirely. they have also dished out more for 2015. work is underway for the mgm resort and casino. on tuesday, crews will begin deconstructing an elementary school that was badly damaged when a tornado tore through springfield in 2011. the property will eventually become the parking garage for the facility. mgm hopes to open the complex in 2018 but has recently been asked to scale back construction plans. quite a lot of rain today. like a monsoon. >> coming down like crazy. >> flooding on some of the streets. some minor wind damage around the region and some minor splashing at the coast. we have seen a lot worse storms and this but we did get one to 2 inches today.

more of snow but on the summit of mount washington, it went from snow, sleet, freezing rain and then rain. still raining today, 1.9 inches from our weather watchers. huffington 1.3 inches and the cave got about 1 inch. the heaviest rain is offshore. we have more -- one more band with an approaching cold front. we have heavier rain heading to wurster up to if switch new hampshire -- ippswitch new hampshire. how about the records to be today? and wurster, it got up to 560 for a new record high of -- beating the record of 530. will boston have a new record in the next few minutes? it's possible.

if the wind goes more southerly. indeed, it looks like the current temperature just jumped to 570, so we do have a new record. it just went up in the last few minutes. 570 in boston for a new record high. out to the west, nothing like record high temperatures. we had many record high temperatures in vermont and southern new england and into new york now it's 290 in buffalo, seven below zero in international falls. we won't be that could but we will feel chilly by early tomorrow morning. by then, bridges down to 320 around boston and 20s off to the north and west. the real temperatures will feel like the lower 20s because of wind. as warm as it is right now, you're going to have to bundle up tomorrow morning. with the wind blowing, the wet roads will mostly dry out but pedaling might go on puddling--

be careful when you head out. but that heavy coat on because it's going to be about 300 and about 310 coming home from school with the wind blowing much of the time. the reason for this is a storm center going west of us, drawing the warm air to boston for that record high. we see it clearing out overnight but no flash freezes overnight. it won't get cold until way after midnight in the early morning hours. we will have temperatures in the low to middle 30s at this point. then, it looks like we are in for some cold days and a potential for snow. a lot to talk about here in a short time but we could have snow showers tuesday afternoon that could amount to 1- 2 inches and cold weather, thursday and friday. next weekend looks strongly as well for the pats game on saturday. more on that tonight at 11:00. >> i like the warm temperatures. next in sports, the pats
