live, from the channel 4 studios in boston, wbz news at 11:00, starts right now. >> live look at the city, after a warm, wet day and the city actually hit a new high temperature for the day. >> but driving rain was the rule across most of the area this afternoon, causing flash flooding in some spots. some dramatic changes are in store for tomorrow, with the return to winter, kind of, sort of. good evening. >> we should see close to a 30-degree drop in temperature by tomorrow. here's barry to give you the details. >> it's going to fall overnight, tumbling temperatures, still 52 degrees right now, the air is relatively moist, humidity 60%, southwest whipped, that's the warm weather wind direction, we saw that today.

to a developing story, the would -- boston police officer who was shot trying to corner and drug suspect has been re. that suspect will be in court, accused of firing 6 shots at the officer. jim smith is live at boston police headquarters. >> reporter: this is welcomed news for so many. kurt stokinger's family, and his fellow officers, the police commissioner, the mayor, and the entire city. meantime, the man who police say fired the shots is due to face a judge tomorrow. >> reporter: it's the kind of call that gives even veteran cops chills. an officer down, shot by a suspect on mount bowdoin. now, officer kurt stokinger has been released from the hospital. even on friday, he was stable enough to speak briefly with the commissioner and mayor.

we thanked him nor his service. we told him in our mind, he's a hero. i said i appreciate his service, his bravery, and hope for a speedy recovery. >> reporter: sources tell us about 6 shots were fired. the man who pulled the trigger, was 27-year-old grant headley, who was arrested a short time later. headley is a convicted drug dealer who was on probation. the wounding is the latest attack against officers nationwide. >> we are the targets. we are the targets, and that's wrong. we are the men and women who are out there protecting you in this city, the public should not stand for this. it's outrageous. >> reporter: the over is said to be in good spirit. he's 37 years old, and the father of two. resting comfortably with family members tonight. live at police headquarters, jim smith, wbz news. >> thanks. good news.

pats captain who devils -- gives us insight and how he fires up the team. in the news tonight, malden police have arrested a man in a hit-and-run. the victim was hit on december 27. officers have now identified the suspect, except to say the driver will face a judge tomorrow. 21-year-old vincent green is charged with motor vehicle homicide and leaving the scene, he was driving recklessly when he plowed into a 56-year-old man in west boylston street. fire investigators in stare bridge are trying to pin down the cause of a fire at the public house hotel complex. nobody was hurt, but the flames made a mess out of some wedding plans. >> reporter: the images are

monday, february 1, and new hampshire holds its primaries on tuesday, february 9. work is finally about to get up way on the mgm resort casino in springfield. on tuesday, crews will start demolishing an elementary school on that site. that school was badly damaged when a tornado tore through springfield in 2011. the property will eventually become the casino's parking garage. they hope to open in late 2018, but recently -- let's talk about the weather, because we going to change? >> very big change. we talk about winter this week. which we haven't had an opportunity to do so. >> and we have a couple shots of snow to go with that talk of winter, so we'll see if it works out. we're watching a number of systems, which could produce snow, but question, will any do just that? we know the one today didn't

record highs, so it was quite a day indeed for this january 10, and still 52 in boston. but it's fallen to the 40s to the west, and drops off in new york in the 20s this from central new york westward, and look at the numbers, 9 in indianapolis, 21 below in international falls, minnesota, right under a dome of high pressure with radiational cool. so here come the front, moving into almost into western worcester county, the back side of the front, winds picking up from the west and driving the cold air our way, so we're going to be much different tomorrow morning than now. high pressure in control here, but actually a low up in portions of canada which will give us some problems here later on tuesday. so the temperatures are falling tonight, as we go through the night, the temperature will be dipping. down to about 6:30, 7:00 a.m., about 34 in boston, 30-29 as you head out in worcester county, mid-20s to the cape. the temperature might rise just
