an 18 month battle with cancer. don champion, cbs news new york. more breaking news this morning. crews battling an overnight fire in gloucester the call came in before 4 at a home at east main and hammond street. we have a crew at the scene and we will bring you updates throughout the morning. new this morning, police investigating a serious crash in saugus that happened on the northbound side of route 107 near the lynn line. we are told this was a one-car crash. reports from the scene say one person was ejected from the car. no word on that person's condition this morning or what caused that crash. also right now boston police are investigating the city's first homicide of the year. it happened early yesterday morning on falcon street in east boston. a man was shot and taken to the hospital where he later died. anyone with information is asked to call police. today the man accused of shooting a boston police officer is due in court. >> this comes just hours after the injured officer was

chantee lans is live with more. >> reporter: new details are expected to come out of court later today. this all happening one day after the boston flies officer was release -- police officer was he released from the hospital. 27-year-old grant headley of dorchester is spec to face a judge -- expected to face a judge monday. >> i am at 33 mount bowdoin tearis shot. >> reporter: sources tell wbz6 shots were fired at police. officer kurt stokinger was shot in the leg friday morning and released from boston medical center on sunday. and this as new key tales -- details emerge in the case i'm cord together governmenton globe the hand -- according to theboston globe the gun may have jammed. headley was out on probation at the time of the shooting. the boston globe says that his case has been assigned to the suffolk district attorney senior trial unit where they

and homicides among other complex cases. boston police say the officer is expected to make a full recovery. chantee lans, wbz news. >> thanks very much. the man accused of murdering the little girl known as baby bella will face a judge today. nicole jacobs has a closer look at the case. >> reporter: the man accused of murdering baby bella. stuffing her in a trash bag and discarding her body that would later wash up on deer island. michael mccarthy the boyfriend of the toddler's mother is said to have beatent child to death claiming she was demon. >> we dispute the fact she assisted him in anyway. >> reporter: mother rachelle bond was arraigned last week on a grand jury indictment of crime. an indictment was returned for mccarthy who space as -- face as superior court judge in case that touched a nation and sweet little girl whose face no one will soon forget. >> that was nicole jacobs

an arrest in a deadly hit- and-run in malden. 71-year-old was hit on a pleasant street on december 27th. police have not identified the driver. that person is due in court today. another driver due in court accused in the deadly hit in run in worcester. vincent green of west boylston is charged with motor vehicle homicide and leaving the scene. police say green was driving recklessly when he plowed into a 56-year-old man. the victim later died at the hospital. investigators are looking into what caused a fire at a popular wedding spot in sturbridge. flames ripped through the hotel on the public house yesterday morning. at least 20 guests who celebrated a wedding the night before had to get out. >> the cops bang on the door. >> that's what yo -- when you saw the smoke billowing. >> we were yelling for the firemen to come get me and they came and put a ladder against my balcony and i had to climb down. >> no one was hurt and the fire

mexico security forces tracked down guzman because of a meeting he had with actor sean penn. he apparently wanted to make a film about himself and gave penn an interview published by rolling stone magazine. proposed regulation of online fantasy sports will get a public hearing in boston. the attorney general will hold the hearing on tuesday. healy is proposing restrictions on the fantasy sites that would limit most beters to 1,000 dollars per month. it would be age and advertising limits. draftkings and fan dueel the two biggest companies offered qualified support for the proposal. mbta official also meet and discuss the future the green line expansion projectp they wanted to extend -- project. they wanted to extend to trolley service to medford but the cost estimates have gone up to more than $3 billion so officials must decide whether to scale back project or scrap it entirely.

and clouds and no big issues. a blustery feel. real feel in the 20s even at warmest time of the afternoon. tomorrow morning, it's going to be a dry sunny start. but notice what's off to the west. areas of snow. quick fast moving clipper system is coming in. so by tomorrow afternoon, rain and snow showers breaking out in eastern massachusetts. there will be some around for the evening commute but i think it ramps up after about 7, 8:00 so notice periods of rain at the coast. mixed with snow and we will see the changeover at the coastline tomorrow evening and night. but by wednesday morning it's done. areas of snow in northern maine but we will dry out and a stray flurry on wednesday. but the bulk of accumulation that comes downfalls late tuesday evening and night and we are talking about a coating to an inch. this is a low scale event but outside 128 there may be a couple amounts to top out near 2 or 3 inches so we will keep you posted. afternoon temperatures today, lower to middle 30s. keep in mind we are 37 in boston right now.

temperatures and the real feel forecast through the course of the morning and afternoon is actually going to fall so notice as we go through mid morning, real feel is in the teens and 20s and single digit readings through the afternoon -- digit readings. through the afternoon it will feel like the teens and even in boston at times when the wind gets strong lieu the -- through the evening hours 20s along the south coast. wind will subside overnight tonight. temperatures drop back into the teens in the suburbs 22 downtown and highs tomorrow manage to come up 35 to 40. south coast. but it's cooler north and west so it looks like we may start with rain showers along the south coast and then make that change over to snow. temperatures will be much colder on wednesday and windy -- windy around 30, less wind on thursday and late day clouds friday watching a storm for the weekend. snow. by the way, pamela had a great visit last week. she visited the 3 and 4th
