you saw the picture on the pike in grafton, light snow. eric fisher is keeping an eye on the storm. it will get ugly. >> watching the snow pick up in intensity. thanks to the reports on twitter letting us know when the snow reaches your town. in. a lot of pictures out of connecticut with at least an inch on the ground. heavy snow in the berkshires and a few flakes up to the merrimack valley. in boston, zooming around the city, no flakes yet. you see the mixed line along the water. wind is out of the south and east. many areas the wind off the water will mix in raindrops to combat the snowflakes. to the west heavier rates are starting to pick up. heavier stuff working west of franklin about to cross 4895 and around the park and worcester and chews berry. just about to approach 495.

march eastward through the evening. the main impact is for areas of moderate to heavy snowfall. sun is down, dark outside. not a whole lot to make it tricky. through the evening, most is through 8:00 to 9:00 p.m. after that, the snow areas will decrease. but the temperatures drop and the wind will pick up. icy overnight. most towns see an inch or two. isolated totals up to 3 inches of total snowfall. you see the curve on the coastline with the winds off the water. a coating to an inch for the north shore. boston area south and east. not a lot but causing a tricky drive. here is the hour by hour. the snow continues to progress eastward into the city. cape cod, just rainfall in those locations. and one more batch through tonight, about midnight another line of snow showers. that brings in the wind and the cold. we will talk about tomorrow's forecast in a bit. david? >> all right, eric. another look at conditions

mass pick in grafton, 1 to 3 inches. we will continue to update you throughout the next 90 minutes. remember you can track the storm and all the other storms on the cbs boston weather app. get the latest track alert, live radar and it's free on itunes and the android app store as well. at 5:00 a violent and brazen robbery caught on camera. tonight the store clerk behind the counter is talking about what he calls one minute of terror. the robber who is now under arrest demanded money. he threatened the clerk with a knife, jumps over the counter and the clerk fights back with a big knife of his own. he shared his story with bill shields. he joins us live in fall river. >> just a small corner store in falls river. he is this big. he has a big heart and a lot of courage. when the robber came in with a knife and money, he wasn't having any of it.

>> reporter: he arrived on a bicycle sunday morning. once inside the store, he jumped on the counter and pulled about an 8-inch knife. >> he told me to give me the money, give me the money. >> the owner decided to fight back and pull a big knife of his own. even coming from behind the counter to confront the robber. >> of course i am scared. he jumped up and i am so scared. he was on the counter with a knife. >> reporter: the robber got away with about $200 but a short time later a could be spotted this guy, jose sanchez. the store owner positively identified him. this guy is arrested. i am happy. he should be out from the city. >> reporter: this is not the first time he has been robbed. i asked him, aren't you scared running the store? he said, yes, he is scared but now he has a bat.

bill shields, wbz news. >> adding to the arsenal. tonight two people are in critical condition after a wrong way crash that backed up traffic on route 128 in lexington, northbound side near 4:15 a.m. both drivers rushed to leahy clinic for two hours. all northbound lanes have reopened. that happened about 7:00 this morning. developing tonight, a massive deadly explosion in turkey in a historic district popular with tourists. isis is claiming responsibility. >> reporter: at least ten people are dead and eight are german tourists. 15 more were injured. dozens of first responders and ambulances rushed to the area. it's a crowded park near the historic blue mosque in turkey. turkey's president said the bomber was a man from syria. germany's chancellor condemned

warned its citizens to avoid any crowds outside tourist attractions in turkey. the u.s. state department has condemned the attack and reconfirmed its commitment to fight isis with turkey. >> liam, thank you. the affluenza mother tonya couch is out of jail. she is charged with hindering the arrest of her son during an investigation whether he a party. the teenager avoided jail time because his lawyers argued he was too privileged to understand his actions when he got drunk and killed four people with his car. he is in mexico facing extradition. an inspiring message from a hockey player. >> hello, i'm back. >> she is speaking from her hospital bed. she tweeted out the video yesterday along with a message, big news today.

change the political environment and people's attitudes, end quote. considering the political climate is polarizeed as it is now as seven years ago, that seems unlikely. democratic partisans claim that is because the republicans never gave this president a chance. republicans insist he never tried to govern across party lines. whatever you believe, the persistent gridlock in washington speaks to chronic levels of ideological pressure around american animosity -- and personal animosity down there. tonight's address is about trying to rekindle obama magic in the hopes that they may rally behind the democratic ticket again as they did twice for him. politically that makes sense. the democratic party is divided

into boston. notice the rain again. it will be down to the south coast, the cape, islands and part of the south shore. closer look around the fox bridge area, sutton seeing heavier snowfall and up in worcester along the pike. the ground yet. boston area, light flakes starting to hit the ground. i had a report from the weather watcher dave in concord, light hampshire, light snow also. this continues to fill in and tracking eastward through this evening. this is a look at road temperatures across the area. where you have the blue here getting into the darker blue, road temps are below freezing. as the colder air slices in and you can see the air temps with the rain toward the came and islands in the mid-30s. 29 in orange. 20s in the berkshires. colder air pouring in behind all of this. everything will freeze up.

through about 9:30, we have another line, a squall line right here moving through the southern tire of new york and pennsylvania. that is the cold fronted. midnight tonight. we should see one more batch of snow crossing the area. here is the hour by hour. the snow continuing to work eastward. south and east. not much ice toward the cape. midnight hour, there is the squall line through the berkshires into central massachusetts. it may make the trip to the boston area. for the crews heading out tonight, there might be another coating of snow to clean off the ground before tomorrow morning. in terms of accumulation, 1 to 2 inches. isolated totals up to 3 can't be ruled out. along the water south and east a coating to one inch. just causing tricky travel. temperature-wise we will plummet into the teens and low 20s tomorrow morning. not just the cold but the wind cranks behind the front.

wind advisory after connecticut. 1:00 a.m. until 5:00 tomorrow evening and the westerly wind gusts up to 45 miles per hour. you will hear it as soon as the overnight tonight. single digits and teens tomorrow morning out the door. basically that is where we are living all day long. signature letter digits and teens for the real feel temps. it will be a drier day. out the door in the morning, around 20. midday, strong winds out of the west. 15 to 30 sustained with higher gusts. for the evening blustery and chilly, fog through the 20s and into the teens. no one reaching the freezing mark except for nantucket out by the water. after this, we quiet things down on thursday. a couple of flurries possible. otherwise less wind. quiet friday. then we got a more significant storm to deal with friday into saturday. this is a coastal low that

snow favored to the interior. rain for southeastern massachusetts. we will have more later on tonight. acquisition seven day, winter is starting to take control there. warmest day is 40 degrees. a sign that mid-january is definitely controlling our weather. david and lisa, over to you. incredible video from california where an accident sent water shooting up in the sky. you can see the driver is still inside the truck. police say the driver lost control of the pickup, destroyed the fire hydrant and utility pole and the water gushed out. fire crews had to wait until the power was off to help the driver who walked away, no major injuries. unusual sight caught on camera off the coast of california. two whales near san pedro. they seemed to stay close to each other as they traveled through the water. beautiful sight on a tuesday morning. spectacular display over
